Sometimes my heart seems to skip a beat
My throat goes tight, unsteady my feet
Searching for reasons what shall I find
Do deeds from the past enthrall my mind ?
Did I waste my time with selfish fun
Do I feel guilt for whatever’s been done,
Is there a rule I’ve refused to heed
Have I failed to help someone in need ?
Perhaps tis now time to readjust
Try to keep smiling, learn how to trust
Think happy thoughts, get on with God’s tasks
Be ready to help when e’er He asks !
Once you and I walked hand in hand
We dug our toes into the sand
Salt water lapped about our feet
The ocean air was crisp and sweet
The breeze seemed to caress our hair
Twas such a pleasure to be there.
I can remember that last day
The one before you went away
All wars have costs that rise too high
With little chance for much goodbye.
War has not changed these thousand years
Great danger bides beyond our fears
Tis sad to say but true it seems
That youth still pays for old men’s dreams !
I saw an owl perched in a tree
“Whoo, whoo “, he seemed to speak to me
Oh, mister owl you look so grave
Is there a way I should behave ?
I’d like to know what I can do
To ease the course of life for you
Or is this world in such distress
You’re here to bring an S – O – S ?
I’d really like to help you out
Leave me a sign or make a shout
If you’ve a message to relay
I’ll speak to God without delay !
Now once upon a time ago
Before the world began to grow
Into the place it has become
With all at war and peace for none,
Are you a global warming buff
Or is your faith in God enough ?
How would you wish for it to be
That all might have immunity
Or better still that you and me
Could till the soil or fish the sea,
This simple life would satisfy
But I’m afraid wars will not die !
A man who walked with God was he
A profile of integrity
A man of honor who chose love
To please his Father there above
A man who died to save us all
From Satan’s might and last roll call !
When I stroll down beside the sea
The empty shells call out to me
I’ve wondered where their owners are
I know they could not travel far.
Were they the victims of a crime
Perhaps some mollusks from the slime
Or maybe hungry octopi
Reached out to grab them passing by.
Their homes seem to be, oh, so clean
No fingerprints left on the scene
Whatever reasons may be true
I’m glad it wasn’t me or you.
There will be danger in the waves
But who is left to do life saves,
We need a Sherlock of the sea
To solve this deep dark mystery !
There is one flag that I’ve seen wave
That signals all here come the brave
This standard that most recognise
Bring tears of joy to many eyes.
The memories of where it’s raised
When victories have garnered praise
The sight of which will touch the heart
That’s how it’s been right from the start.
In spite of tyranny’s great might
This emblem promises a fight
For freedom’s sake and mankind’s good
Our nation and our flag have stood !
Oh how this world has changed since I
Was young and only stood knee high
The universe has grown much more
So many went there to explore.
We’ve learned how to communicate
With sound and vision up-to-date
Our satellites now fill the skies
All are results of enterprise.
Midst all the challenges we face
Like limbs and organs to replace
With all the changes we have seen
Has faith become an act obscene ?
The winds of March have ceased to blow
Spring blossoms have begun to show
Too soon the waves will breach the land
To plant their kisses in the sand.
The sun will warm us one and all
And gird us to prepare for fall
As on and on life’s cycle grows
Mornings wake as all evenings close !
In those quiet moments before the dawn awakes
Wherein enlightened thought our passion gently breaks
As we note the seasons and tally up the score
We need seek the reasons that lives must matter more.
Such feelings as we sense shall give us all a pause
For who has faith to carry on without a cause
In spite of legends, promises or holy text
We may not meet again in this life or the next !
The air is cool, the smell is sweet
The sound of children from the street
Now rises on the morning breeze
Like waves upon the stormy seas.
The silence reigns just now and then
As shreiking laughter once again
Cuts through the air this peaceful day
With joyous noise while children play !
There is a celebration here
Tis true release from all my fear
Fear is suspect in all to come
God is my hope thus I fear none !
Where is the dream of yesterday
Where has it gone it’s flown away,
It wasted by the road’s dead end
And lingered there without a friend.
The flowers withered on the vine
The fruit has shriveled in the clime
The world just seems so out of sorts
Our ships are moored in foreign ports
Hard work is there that none will share
I think there’s no one left to care !
Bright skies of blue with clouds of white
God’s perfect picture of delight
From azure blue to deep sea green
Painted waters lie in between
While flocks of birds fly overhead,
With sheer emotion left unsaid
True this must be a gift received
That’s far too grand to be believed
I sense the world writhes in defeat
As danger lurks on every street
What else is there for us to fear
The day of judgement drawing near ?
Tis now that we must all align
Our actions into God’s design
We’ll use His words to seek the way
And trace His footsteps every day !
The battlefield’s an ugly place,
Both fear and courage on each face
As terrors of one’s lifetime wait
To learn how each shall meet his fate.
While war is part of history
No generation has been free
And battle scars won’t disappear
Until our Lord does interfere !
It is not peace we’re searching for
Our peace won’t come before God’s war
What we need now is Joshua
To sound the trumpets with his corps !
An angel rapped upon my door
And asked what I was waiting for
I answered with a mild restraint,
“To use my words to pictures paint
And beg God’s help to loose my heart
That I may in His world take part
Tis not a simple task,” said I,
“But what I wish ere I should die,
I think about this every day
And do not wish to lose my way,
I am no longer young you see
My faith means everything to me !”
The atheists say we are fools
There is no God nor any rules
Their evidence seems very hard
But as for me I’ll opt for God !
The Christmas stars are in the sky
They last from August through July
They twinkle bright and travel round
Their numbers grow and do abound
I find my curiousity
Increases with all that I see.
If only I were oh so smart
Instead of thinking with my heart
Perhaps I could then understand
How this old world was built so grand !
It seems to me the world about
Is filled with anger and with doubt,
Each day begins with a clean slate
As we move nearer to our fate.
I’m grateful every time I rise
For all the beauty of His skies
And all the wisdom that is free
To understand God’s charity.
I must believe He loves us all
The young, the old, the great, the small
And willingly accept that He
Is rooting for our victory !
You can barely hear, the murmur’s so soft
As birds begin stirring in nests aloft
Be still and listen when decibels grow
As the lights of the dawn begin their show.
These tiny fledglings do make lots of noise
With their bobbing heads all hungry and poised
The sound increases as the morning glows
Preventing some from enjoying a doze.
Ah but now it seems all are quite content
Hear the silence speak, no complaints to vent !
Good morning world I’d like to say
I wish you all a bonnie day
With hugs and kisses in between
Lots of love and sweet whipping cream.
A bit of chocolate everywhere
The smell of taffy in the air
But what I think I’d like the most
A walk in sand along the coast,
Remembering those days long gone
Recalling life’s lost halcyon !
A little time to breathe the air
A little more just being there
A tiny space to think aloud
Like time to float upon a cloud
A moment with no purpose bound
And minutes where silence is found !
When I was young and meek and mild
I knew the manners of a child
But as I grew and aged a bit
My ways improved I learned to fit.
It seems to me that age must share
Abilities of love and care
Yet caution all to patience earn
As one by one each takes a turn !
Oh how I wish that I could be
A riv’let running to the sea
That constant trickles down the drain
The remnants of the night time rain.
A drip, drip, drip upon the wall
Now gathers fast at evenfall
And makes its downward way complete
Runoffs from gully, stream and street.
The volume growing as it flows
Cross valleys, fields and tall hedgerows
Until at last its task is done
And we have breached the river’s run !
I found my love when but a teen
I knew great joy at seventeen
I thought the world was lean and keen
When I had turned just seventeen.
The times were tough and war was mean
When I was only seventeen
My heart got broken neat and clean
And there I was but seventeen.
All through those years that passed unseen
Life disappeared at seventeen
I wish my time had been pristine
Like once it was at seventeen
I’d sacrifice the years between
Again to be just seventeen !
My advice to you my darling friend
Is take time to dream before the end
Do it now ere you have fully grown
It curries magic you have not known
Supplying cushions to fall upon
As life turns into a marathon !
