A simple thought just for today
That we mean everything we say
The truth is what this world’s about
Because of this we have no doubt.
The lies are but another ploy
Of all the tricks humans employ
To twist and turn each form of strife
Into an enemy for life.
How sad that we perchance forget
Too many days spent in regret !
We view our lives through tainted eyes
Because this world is bathed in lies
Real faith exists in truth alone
Since hearts of men oftimes are stone.
Though many strong are honor bred
While others bask in shade instead,
How sad that we discover late
Powers we hold o’er our own fate !
It matters not where you are from
The lower class or high income,
The price has always been the same
A sense of honor, your good name !
Respect for elders, kindly deeds
Concern for others and their needs
The fact that truth is scoring high
Why would another tell a lie ?
If words are all that one has got
What else is there if one is not ?
Tis sad to note that common man
Has more to hide than less to plan
God knows us all and what we do
No secrets here, not me, not you!
I never thought that I would be
A victim of hypocrisy
But day by day in every way
I see the role I’m meant to play.
Truth is I can’t remember when
We’ll have the chance to speak again
Though I shall wish you all the best
While begging God, control the rest !
Have you seen the trouble we are in
Our world’s tilted and in a spin
We’re upside down, we’ve lost our way
There’s nothing left for us to say.
We are not what we used to be
Our freedom is no longer free
The world we’ve known has disappeared
Transformed by lies and avid fear !
The drums of war beat hard and loud
All occasioned by an ugly crowd
No patriots to save the day
All in the hands of men who pay
Oh precious Lord, please hear our plea
And save our land from infamy !
This world is crashing all around
Please tell us if you hear the sound
The thunder roars above our head
We cannot hear what e’er’s been said
There still is time left to escape
We need locate our hero’s cape.
Oh Lord we seek some help down here
The path ahead looms dark and drear
Please send us aid on winged feet
So we may triumph o’er defeat !
The truth seems to be put aside
Else fears and lies will soon collide
For who can know the depth of this
Its people caught in self-abyss ?
One wonders why deceit is king
When honesty heals everything
How can it be blindness prevails
While all our ships hoist tattered sails ?
My heart is full, I hear it beat
I will not bow to man’s deceit
Hard to accept, the world’s so cruel
And feeds much fodder to the fool.
The more I see the more I learn
Perhaps we each may take a turn
It’s like a wheel of chance we play
We win or lose from day to day.
However fate’s not always kind
And justice is sometimes quite blind
Is there a path to help us win
Please find a way to let God in !
Oh how I wish I could return to when
I was that innocent young thing again
A time of dreaming and a time of trust
When truth was important and faith a must.
Each path we took had a positive end
We knew the value of a longtime friend
Our nature bade us to follow the rules
Not to venture along the path of fools
That time’s now long gone and all that is left
Are shattered dreams and regrettable theft !
The hopes of a nation are at stake
Our country’s heart is ready to break
See the facade of all that we are
No more a dream but a falling star.
It matters little what we desire
Because we are a people afire
The disease is swift consuming all
Hypocrites stand awaiting the fall !
There was a time quite long ago
When our true colors we did show
And saved this world from tryanny
We helped to set the enslaved free.
Now red was for the blood we shed
So children could sleep safe abed
The blue for truth and honesty
Did aid the weak fight anarchy.
And white for those that died to save
God’s people to escape the grave
How sad that we are forced once more
To fight another ghastly war !
The time is here, the time is now
We knew that it might come somehow
Last night deep frost did show its face
Now most new green has been erased.
I see the limbs of all the trees
Succumbing to the crippling freeze
That yesterday were chock full of
The thrill of spring and signs of love.
The blossoms filled each branch and twig
At times enhanced by petal’d wig
What shall be left when frost has gone
And damaged growth must carry on ?
The world we know is changing fast
The hopes we held can never last
Our dreams now seem far out of reach
No lessons left for us to teach.
How sad it is that we are lost
How great will be the final cost
What warning signals did we miss
Remember ignorance is bliss !
In God’s Eden one peaceful morn
Was the first time a lie was born
As Satan turned from good to bad
And ruined the paradise they had !
Sly Satan spoke strong words to Eve,
His purpose meaning to deceive
He answered her as she asked why
“I tell you that you will not die !”
“Come eat of this forbidden tree
That opens eyes so you can see
The difference of wrong and right
And what is wise here in God’s sight.”
Oh foolish child you could not know
How perils of your act would grow !
The drums are throbbing, hear the sound
There is no silence to be found
With victims sobbing loud and strong
How do agressors still prolong ?
There is great danger in the air
The wolves have left their secret lair
They lie in wait with coats now shorn
Disguised with sheeplike woolen worn.
Oh sad the lies that we all hear
With foment manufactured near,
Proponents of “egality”
What happened to equality ?
I pull the words out of the air
There are so many words to share
Some words are good and kind and sweet
While some are mean, fierce, incomplete.
Of all the words I’ve ever used
I shy away from those confused
And try to stick to making sense
As nastiness has no defense.
I pray that God and I agree
Of all our words there are but three
That humans, angels, heaven too
All need to hear, that’s “I love you.”
The pitter-patter of the rain
Now dancing on my windowpane
Reminds me of that long ago
Forgotten game of tell and show.
Oh what great fun we all had then
I do not think that I was ten
We lived our lives from day to day
Simplicity that was our way.
Depression had not loosed its grip
Our world much like a sinking ship
The war had not yet reached our shore
Though it was gnawing at the door.
And when it came none was prepared
For most believed it wasn’t there
Like all our games of show and tell
In truth it all went straight to hell !
Throughout our history we’ve learned
That words are more than image earned
From Cain’s admonishment reply,
“I know not”, that was his deny.
“Am I my brother’s keeper ?” so
From that day hence God made him go
Into the land of Nod went he
To live and raise his family.
( The first lie serpent spoke to Eve
“Ye shall not die”, and she believed
Alas, her true naivety
Willed us our real heredity ! )
The clouds above seem ominous
And cast dark shadows over us
The wind is still and quiet now
There is no swaying of the bough.
The silence of this early morn
Bears portents of a day forlorn
Oh Lord, we weep for those we’ve lost
Is there no end to freedom’s cost,
Where is the path for us to save
Our world from such a reckless knave ?
EXCUSE ME but I was raised with my mother’s familiar and oft repeated admonition that echoed Sir Walter Scott’s lines from his lengthy poem “Marmion”, you know the one, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. In retrospect that simple homily is far more applicable today than it would have been in the Garden of Eden ! Quite an observation, eh ? I encourage you to consider all of today’s headlines, storylines and psycho-babble, is this not part of that oh-so-tangled web ? Lord, save us from the power of those who know everything ! Somehow it seems along the way
I can’t say why we’ve gone astray
We’ve wandered far off of the road
And took on this excessive load
Who was it knew what this might be
A final act of heresy ?
Some were good men we know by name
Who tried to save us from this game
As others rushed headlong into
Lack of concern for what was true
They’ve lied and cheated on us all
And bear the blame for freedom’s fall !
One fact I’ve learned
Respect is earned
The truth is just
And builds our trust
Deceit is cruel
And breaks the rule
A lie is worse
And brings a curse.
We’ve lived our lives, our golden days
We’ve overcome our wayward ways
We’ve learned to plan for peace at hand
Ere we shall seek the promised land.
We’ve watched while men do values slay
Crushing all who stand in their way
Destroying things not understood
No tolerance for kind or good !
Those qualities which they exude
Empower the false, the harsh, the crude
How much longer must we all wait
To catch one glimpse of Heaven’s Gate ?
Such disappointments we have found
Before our feet can hit the ground
The lesson is you cannot win
No matter who may let you in,
I find it strange that no one cares
Who gives or takes, or hoards or shares !
How sad that we are overcome
By tales of greed and waste by some
Our nation weeps we are so lost
There is no way to count the cost
Our dignity has been disgraced
And standards need be replaced !
The wind and rain came pelting down
To leave my senses all aground
One question that I asked aloud
Can life progress under a cloud,
Are we all bound to be possessed
By causes old and thoughts distressed ?
Oh, what I’d give to find release
In pleasant joys and joyful peace !
The fantasy of modern day
That won’t attempt to melt away
And hides behind a false facade
Is that no one is fooling God !
My heart cries out it’s full of pain
To think that we’re at war again
We search for calm it isn’t there
The world still writhes in deep despair
When will it cease the unknown crime
This war on peace destroys our clime,
Oh why is man so incomplete
Unable to accept defeat ?
We’ve lost all sense in this foray
Will we survive another day
The question rises to the fore
From day to day who keeps the score,
The boy who grows to be a man
To love his God and have a plan
Or one who scatters discontent
No matter what the message sent ?
Who is to judge the final test
And weigh the cost of such unrest ?
The world is drowning in distress
I know you’ve heard it’s S. O. S.
Their cries get lost in foolish things
Like selfishness vain glory brings
While on their lips all stained with lies
These wanton ones, Gods will defies
They carry on with true remiss
There seems no way we can dismiss
Horrendous waste that they sustain
Until we’ve learned to trust our brain !
