Oh life that was and is no more
Has tiptoed softly out the door
And just as peaceful laid to rest
Amidst the ages mongst the best !
Oh life that was and is no more
Has tiptoed softly out the door
And just as peaceful laid to rest
Amidst the ages mongst the best !
The feelings that this season brings
Much like the songs God’s nature sings
Filling the air with scents and smells
That to us all her story tells
While life, enhanced along the way,
Keeps growing better day by day
And helping us rejoice in peace
Before we meet our souls’ release !
The sun is fading in the west
At twilight time it’s oft the best
The colors all a vibrant scene
With sprays of magic in between.
How wonderful each evening seems
A part of all our finest dreams
So off to sleep as even falls
Ere mystery of nightfall calls !
The sun sinks low in darkened sky
Preparing soon to say goodbye
The wind has reached its all time low
With reticence here and below
The evening creeps, its silence taut
The stars keep blinking as they ought
Tis time to bid to all good night
Until we wake with morning’s light !
I had a dream the other night
And wakened with an awful fright
I felt the ground just slip away
While all my world lay in decay.
It seemed to me I was alone
Some place that was a danger zone
I rose quite slowly from my bed
To take a look around instead.
I said ” Thank you ” I am okay
” Please help me Lord to stay that way ”
I’ll be more cautious late at night
Who dreams to wake with such a fright ?
Stand back, stand back, you’re here no more
You’ll ne’er come knocking at the door !
Whatever’s left is God’s to take
No time for error, no mistake
The battle’s done, tis ended now
None can survive the exit bow !
Our men who died on foreign shore
Ne’er to be seen forever more
They sacrificed to keep us free
Gave us the gift of liberty
And we shall try to bring them home
From foreign shores ne’er more to roam !
I feel somehow a pending urge
As all my fears and passions merge
The path to seek a higher road
Henceforth to carry life’s great load
And find a place where each may rest
Before attempting life’s contest !
The snow is clinging to the bough
The weather’s turning cold and how
The winter chill cuts to the bone
I think I’d rather stay at home.
I’d like to be inside for now
So I may keep warmed up somehow
And pick a spot close to the fire
Therein imagine sweet desire
Where in the end life does attest
Our souls do seek elusive rest !
The night outside is dark and cold
I am so tired and far too old
Oh how I wish that I could sleep
But we have promises to keep
For in this world of let’s pretend
A few may care but more must mend.
Take a deep breath for a short while
Lift up your spirit, try a smile
Remember that the Lord is there
Depend on Him, He’s just and fair !
Dear Lord above, I’d like to know
When day is done where do You go
Is there one place that You’re fond of
Some hideaway or spot You love ?
So glorious it must be grand
A product of His own blest hand,
How wonderful that God is The
Creator of Eternity !
There is a darkness that I see
It gently closes over me
The shades of night begin to fall
The shadows seem to cover all.
There is a quiet that I seek
And feel no need to eye or peek
There are no words that I must say
For now is time to bid good day !
I wish I knew a leafy bower
Where I might rest for but an hour
And there among those pleasant scenes
I’d pass my time and dream my dreams !
The walls are sterile, antiseptic clean
The floors are silent mopped by hands unseen
The night is long and chill and strangely stark
As tip toe feet cross these halls in the dark.
There is one thought that quickly flashes by
This is a place where few prepare to die
The air is still, but hear the humming sound
As thousands of machines do all surround.
Here nurses try to understand slurred speech
Dealing kindly with parts of pain’s release
Pray time does rapid heal without delay
As some won’t live to see another day !
I hear the wind it speaks to me
It’s hollow voice drones endlessly
The sound it makes is dark and deep
It has not learned to silence keep.
The power echoes in my mind
Where is this peace I sought to find
Perhaps I’m lost, I don’t know where
But for today, I do not care !
A little time to breathe the air
A little more just being there
A tiny space to think aloud
Like time to float upon a cloud
A moment with no purpose bound
And minutes where silence is found !
The silence creeps into the room
Its magic soon all thoughts consume
The shadows fall upon the door
Then slowly settle to the floor.
It seeps into each lonely crack
To lure the quiet darkness back
And melts away into the night
As we arise with morning light !
Well here we are another day
What is it there is left to say
Just one more spate of noun and verb
Some sweet, some kind and some acerb ?
Close to the end we wait on line
And query how we’ll spend our time
Will it be worth this last delay
Is there value in one more stay ?
We’ve had our chance of small avail
Do you believe that we shall fail ?
I’ll take no risk and won’t assume
Now I am in God’s waiting room !
The wind comes rushing through the trees
So like a wild autumnal breeze
With chilly breath and frosted lips
That touches even fingertips !
Imagination floods the mind
Amongst the images we find
Those moments when we push away
We cannot face, no not today !
The morrow brings us renewed strength
To last the whole of one day’s length
God reaches out to us His cup
Inviting us to sip and sup !
When the dark shroud of night has fallen from my eyes
And the pale light of early morn bids me arise
These strange thoughts assault the synergy of my day
And I’m consumed with one wild urge to run away,
I’m sure this world rests heavily upon my mind
And keeps me foreign to the peace that I must find.
