Millions of dreams have gone astray
Because of wars we fight each day
When does it end, shall we survive
What must we do to keep alive ?
So many innocents to save
By heroes who have filled each grave
And what of all the families
Left behind with but memories ?
Of fathers, sons and daughters too
Who gave themselves in lieu of you
Bless them all and promise to be
Defenders of their sanctity !
Whomever thought I would live to be
Alive in another century
How fast all the years have whizzed on by
With a tender shrug and a sad goodbye.
While I’d like to believe it’s okay
Trying to pursue another day
In a world I neither fit nor last
Since the twentieth century’s passed !
AMEN.
Oh for the days of what might have been
With memories of remember when,
As the heart recalls the times we knew
When children were as all children do.
Their names are tatooed upon my brain
Like loving words of an old refrain
That tugs on those chains of kindness past,
Of the days long gone that did not last !
There is this tugging on my heart
How did it ever get its start
A numbness rising from the floor
Into my feet and out the door.
What’s happening, I do not know
I cannot make it stop or go
Please lead me Lord, teach me the way
Help me survive each lonely day.
Where are the tears I need to cry
With each and every sad goodbye
Where are the kisses I have earned
Ere all my bridges have been burned ?
Oh, how I pray that I can hide
These tears I shed on the inside
For all God’s children that I see
Who dwell in abject poverty.
They never really had a chance
For all their dreams to be enhanced
Or find a safer path to take
That guarantees a better break.
Our Lord is just and answers prayer
He comprehends we all must share
It’s left to us to learn and teach
The world we love to kindness reach !
There is a joy the season brings
That dwells within rememberings
Of times long past and those to come
In this old world so worrisome.
What used to be our yesterdays
Have been recycled to todays
And we’ve recaptured our best chance
To feel again the warm romance.
The world that was, has disappeared
To be forgotten as we feared
Tis sad that time must runaway
To leave but hours to love and pray !
I hear the whistle on the track
It seems to shout, come back, come back
But I have been this way before
Not once, but twice or maybe more
And cannot bear the lonesome sound
Of emptiness which I have found.
My bags are packed all set to go
I’m ready for another show
I do not have a backup plan
And may become an ” also ran ”
God with Your help, I’ll take a chance
Tis time to try to learn to dance !
Often our dreams get whisked away
Ere each one has a word to say
Too many wishes we have seen
That fall into the cracks between,
The saga of a life close to
Its pending end and what to do
We’ll find a spot to set aside
For this our last and final ride.
Our dreams and wishes are just that
A chance to wear another hat
But if you choose to praises sing,
Get set to catch the big brass ring !
To those I’ve known and loved before
Whose memories my heart has stored
Here in the reaches of my mind
Midst joy and feeings ever kind,
Remember that I’ll miss you all
And pray the Lord is at your call
While angels spread their wings above
And bathe you in God’s constant love !
Can you see the clouds all drifting by
While summer days, they do swiftly fly
The wings of time quickly fade away
Leaving shadows of lost yesterday
With those memories we shall recall
We have entered into shades of fall.
Past the windows of the mind we’ll see
Sweet beginnings of our victory
As the church bells toll for me and you
And the adventures we have been through
We shall face tomorrow hand in hand
Prepared to enter Forever Land !
Now you and I have been around
Among these feelings we have found
Though they are not of wide import
Somehow we’ve managed to have caught
This glow that captures happiness
And triumphs love o’er great success
For life is more than what it seems
It’s smiles and hopes and all our dreams !
A little bird whispered to me
The secret of eternity
Have faith in God and trust His word
It is the best that all have heard.
We cannot doubt, we must believe
Have hope in Him, we shall achieve
Each has a goal, no two alike
From aged man to little tyke.
Like every flower that will bloom
With varied scent to fill each room
Or all the wings that fly on high
To reach our Lord in distant sky !
I find myself out on a limb
Is there some one to let me
How shall I save myself on earth
What is the value of my worth ?
I know that God is always there
And that He hears my every prayer
I’ve tried so hard to do what’s right
Each morning, noon and through the night.
My clock is running out it seems
Like all my hopes and all my dreams
The time is now to close the book
I wish to take this one last look !
I often think it’s sad that we
Must live with each infirmity
Yet it may make us stronger now
If we could learn the why and how
This life is not a sack of dreams
Filled with a mass of wasted schemes.
It’s real, it’s here, we need take care
This is a concept all may share
God offers us a second chance
To live, to hope, to circumstance
It’s up to us to carry on
The Lord’s our strength here and beyond !
Our world is made of fantasy
Of wishes, dreams and ecstasy
Of worry, hope and dignity
With many other traits you’ll see
Despite how we may try agree
We are awash and blind asea !
I’ve trod the road uncounted miles
And shed more than a million tears
While time evoked a thousand smiles
As life revealed a hundred fears.
I cannot know the why of it
From each angle life has displayed
I only know I hope to fit
Before all of my cards are played !
A little voice within my head
Whispered to me, “get out of bed,
Stop feeling sorry for yourself
And rise up from that dusty shelf. ”
“It’s not as bad as what you think
Please move back safely from the brink
Tis time to pay attention to
All that the Lord has done for you !”
“Wake up, wake up, ere it’s too late
Just how much longer will you wait ?
This scene is coming to an end
Make haste to mend your fence, my friend !”
To find oneself alone at last
With memories of things now past
Of happy days and lazy times
Some foolishness, some silly rhymes
Or moments when tears cannot stop
As dreams we’ve had did a flip flop.
Tis strange how life’s misunderstood
In quite many a neighborhood
But we must carry on, you see
For that’s a part of destiny
The path that each one has taken
Leaves some winning, some forsaken !
Oh sandman, sandman what shall we see
In tonight’s sleepy time fantasy
While each evening I prepare for bed
I pray I’ll have pleasant dreams ahead
If I’m honest I cannot recall
Any of my dreams of old at all
They seemed to disappear ere came dawn
And by waking time they were all gone !
Could we but know the history
Of all God’s miracles we see,
That every minute of each day
Are playing out in grand display,
Oh, what a wonder we would learn
For every fraction of life’s turn.
As occurs here before our eyes
This program happens in disguise
The simplest flight of birds on high
Got their direction times gone by
God’s world is perfect as can be
Except for fools like you and me !
At times I feel I am obsessed
By hopes and dreams and fears possessed
The hope that we shall find a way
To seek a greater role to play
A dream to be the brighter star
Than what we ever really are
The fear to put our dreams to rest
And hope that all will do their best !
The willows in the wood reach the ground
Stretching their branches down all around
The stars in the sky shimmer and shine
With greetings they bring to yours and mine.
This year’s ending with no alarm
Leaving us with past wealth and old charm
Let’s look ahead to days that soon come
Sharing with others a bit and some
Forgiving all our errors and sins
How wonderful each New Year begins !
Well, here it is, the early morn
Where shades of night melt into dawn
As shadows pale then disappear
Into the light now grown more near.
When I was young I found that joy
So vital to each girl and boy
My heart grew wings, I learned to fly
To heights that reached beyond the sky.
How little did I know back then
It never would return again
And wishes I’d been hoping for
All failed to knock at my front door !
Sometimes I can’t help remembering
My great grandma’s house in early spring
Oh such joy those old visions bear
Of beaches, sand and the salty air.
The wonderment of childhood may be
The remembrance of past memory
And lifestyles that have all gone astray
With the pleasantries of yesterday.
I wish that I could capture the time
Instead of watch as our lives decline
So sad, dear Lord, what was meant to be
Got lost in this new posterity !
Stand back, stand back, you’re here no more
You’ll ne’er come knocking at the door !
Whatever’s left is God’s to take
No time for error, no mistake
The battle’s done, tis ended now
None can survive the exit bow !
The wind, it whistles through the trees
Staccato bristling in the breeze
The air is crisp, its clean and clear
Sounds of autumn fall on the ear.
The Ides of March have come and gone
And Labor Day has since moved on
Ere long it will be Halloween
With other days squeezed in between.
All lives serve seasons in their turn
Each with some lesson we need learn
Our victories may have no date
Sometimes we simply have to wait !
I’ve seen the world about me cry
And heard its whispers of goodbye
I’ve felt the tremor of its fears
All through these recent lonely years
I’ve known the truth and heard its lies
And seen them revel in disguise.
I’ve prayed for help in my distress
And been denied proper redress
I’ve hoped that opportunity
Would visit soon and set me free
But most of all I’ve asked of You
Dear Lord above, please see me through !
Of all the wishes I have sought
Or presents that I’ve ever bought
Like treasured dreams that I have thought
Are in my heart, forever caught !
