The wheels of time turn slowly round
Wherein the scale of life is found
The hours are counted one by one
Until each lonely day has done.
We’ll dream our dreams and pray that we
Accept the rule, freedom’s not free
Oftimes the cost goes far beyond
A price of which we are not fond.
Since discipline is what it takes
And safety is the rule it breaks
We’ll try again to make it clear
The only thing to fear is fear !
Oh blessed Lord, see how my heart grieves
When another of Your children leaves
This generation has missed so much
No love or kisses, no tender touch
A prayer or two for what used to be
And a hint of things we’ll never see.
I beg You Lord to find him a place
Help him to rest in a special space
Show him the love that he’s never known
Treat him as if the sky were his home
Answer his queries best as You can
Help him remember he died a man !
TO MICHAEL WITH LOVE.
It occurs to me the world’s upside down
And instead of smiling it wears a frown
Now that’s not the way it was meant to be
With its splendid vistas and great beauty.
Stop for a moment and take a real look
There’s billions of photos filling each book
No one can create a new mountain peak
It’s those who try climbing of whom we speak.
The wisdom of God is beyond our reach
No matter how much or how hard they teach
The world is not ours, one we could not make
All have a short span to visit not break !
What is this sound falls on my ears
It is the echo of our fears
There’s no recourse, we cannot wait
Barbarians are at the gate !
I do believe that most try hard
To keep their faith and honor God
But stuff keeps getting in the way
It seems to happen every day.
We need a plan to get us through
To teach us all what we must do
Dear Lord above we need You now
Whom else is there to show us how ?
I have often pondered how it’s done
How life progresses aft battles won
Or how one knows when it is enough
As the road runs easy, smooth or rough ?
Who makes a choice either high or low
When the winds of life begin to blow
And how is it one comprehends
If the paths we follow know no ends ?
Is there a voice that but few may hear
To whisper softly into each ear
Take care my child as the way is steep
And the hole we dig may be too deep ?
There are those days when I recall
The summers, winter, spring and fall
Of years now past and gone astray
Like thoughts and things I’ve stored away.
Let caution be the path I choose
I may not win but fear to lose
But share will I the pleasures found
And cherish all treasures unbound.
May God grant all eternal peace
To find at last our souls release !
See all the pieces on the ground
What is this image we have found
The damaged parts of each lost soul
All crumpled bare without a goal.
Now where did all of this begin
From far away or quite close in
For this is what a war will do
Tear all apart that once were two
A war is such a vengeful thing
And wears no peace upon its wing !
The trumpets sound, drums beat away
The voices have so much to say
Is this the future soon to come
What is it we are fleeing from ?
Is there some place that we may hide
From all the fears we’ve deep inside
Pick up the pieces, stand up tall
Let’s learn to walk before we fall !
Speak softly now, oh my sweet soul
And we shall make it to our goal
Let kindness be the guide we use
While arrogance must we refuse.
For who is there will bear the pain
Of impudence again, again
The folly of impatient fools
Will put to waste all proper rules.
Beware my dear we have small choice
Tis better far speak sotto voiced !
Times I have spent the lonely night
In front of fire by candle light
And watched the shadows on the wall
With quiet passion rise and fall.
I’ve felt the chill invade the room
Its fingers spreading cold and gloom
What mystery do we have here
I sense its movement growing near.
Beware my heart as truth can fail
And danger lurks beyond the veil
For what we seek as heaven sent
May be at odds with God’s intent !
When I awoke this early morn
I thought about when I was born
It was the Great Depression clime
To most it was like world’s end time.
Who could have thought that we’d survive
Or that this world would soon revive
While clouds spread over seas and lands
Deserted towns and dust bowl sands.
Too few are left who yet recall
The poverty which did befall
With angst and agonies we knew
Like pain and failures we’ve come through.
We pray that era won’t return
There are great lessons we did learn
You must not hide your eyes in sleep
The danger grows both close and deep !
The waters rush upon the shore
The winds outshout the ocean’s roar
The frigid air invades each room
While sharing its contentious gloom.
The winter’s storm arrived at last
And left us stunned and all aghast
Well toughen up, display your grit
And pray to make the best of it !
I sense the world writhes in defeat
As danger lurks on every street
What else is there for us to fear
The day of judgement drawing near ?
Tis now that we must all align
Our actions into God’s design
We’ll use His words to seek the way
And trace His footsteps every day !
There is a bit of keen advice that I would give you all
That as you travel through your life try to avoid the toll
Of those so full of avarice who wish to be a friend
Take care because their interest sometimes is but pretend !
We thank you Lord for grace and care
And all the blessings that we share
Through times of good and times of bad
Those times we gave it all we had !
Some lifetimes have a slow restart
For many hide a timid heart
Beyond our skills the fear still lurks
One foot before the other works !
The steady pace of trying hard
Should help to keep us on our guard
The path ahead cannot be sure
Pray it will make our way secure !
The leaves of time blow wild and sere
The trees of life turn stark and drear
This is the season we’ve been told
That chills the mind and waxes bold.
The serpent moves in secret ways
Designed to veil his anguine days
We need take care to not be caught
Within the net the viper wrought !
My life is like a slippery hill
Sometimes I fall or take a spill
And there are times I cannot see
A feckless bump in front of me.
My eyesight dims, my courage fails
And all my strength in shadows, pales
I know I should be better at
This game of playing mouse and cat.
I find such things a childish chase
My life has need of richer pace,
Dark monsters hurry, fast away
I have no time for games today !
The storms of life ride on the winds and round again
While noses pressed upon the frosted window pane
As closely as one can should sight the lights below
Of cars that creep and crawl and skid in midnight snow.
The safety and the eloquence of night time charm
Encouraged to protect us from intrinsic harm
Far wiser to outwait the storm and greet its end
Than try to force a circumstance and not unbend !
The ships in harbor seem absurd
There waiting on the watchmen’s word
To raise life’s sail on swollen waves
And seek escape from salty graves !
I guess that life may be a mix of good and bad
A challenge of courage with outcome sometimes sad,
While thinking about it in modest simple ways
Let’s pray that we should learn to balance all our days
With care and moderation, cautious as we try
Beware of foolish aims that scheme to reach too high.
We do not wish to fail the last and final test
For in the end who dreams to be just second best?
Keep to the path you’ve chosen and follow ev’ry rule
Abide by all you trust and use each proper tool.
Near to the end be wise, accepting each new role
And thank those stars above you’ve earned your earthly goal.
