Have you wondered what Christ did think
While He suffered there on the brink
And as they nailed Him to the cross
How did He there accept the loss
For all along He knew His fate
Perhaps not hour or day or date
As all the pain that did ensue
And degradation did accrue
It brought Him to His saddest ebb
He uttered words to God instead
The last He’d spoken that was heard
” Tis finished ” was His final word !
Oh little lamb so pure and sweet
You lay there at your Saviour’s feet
How long before your time has come
Your destiny will be undone ?
We each one have to make our way
Learn to accept it day by day
And pray that all we touch in life
Will help to heal this world in strife.
Move on, move on, without a pause
We carry on, it is the cause !
I love You Lord, You are my strength
For You I’d go to any length
No distance is too far for me
Because You’re my eternity !
Today’s the day we do recall
Our heroes brave who scaled the wall
Their actions all did set us free
They led us on to victory
Remember well how many died
To free us from old Satan’s pride !
It’s been awhile since you’ve been gone
I find it hard to carry on
My days are long, the hours unwind
To seek the peace I cannot find.
A part of me has lost its way
The rest seems to have gone astray
I heard those last words that you said
They are imbedded in my head
O’er every word, I’ve cried and cried
My son, for you, I would have died !
There is a faint sound that I hear
It keeps repeating in my ear
Is it a clock ticking away
Counting the minutes of each day ?
If I were smart then I would find
Some way to make all time unwind
So I might salvage years to keep
Those that I love safe from last sleep !
Sometimes I think, when I do recall
All those precious days when I was small
I would grasp my mommy’s hand so tight
As we crossed the street without a light
We always walked close and side by side
Or shared the seat on a trolley ride.
We were such great pals she and I
While all of the years were passing by
And as those times seem to fly away
Appears we switched places on one day
It was she who took my hand to cross
And me who watched she did not get lost.
Those days are gone and I miss her much
And long for the warmth of her sweet touch
I wish I knew what I could have said
Before she passed and our friendship fled !
I love You Lord, I know You see
That I have placed my faith in Thee
Though time has passed I feel the loss

Oh dearest Lord what were you like
When you were but a tiny tyke
And when you played outside your home
Did you get lost or perchance roam ?
What kind of games did you partake,
There were no windows you could break
I’m sure that you were full of vim
What troubles did you make for Him ?
How much your Father loved us all
To sacrifice what would befall
His only Son conceived for men
To dwell in paradise again !
To all the men who fought that day
And those that have since passed away
The thanks of us all should convey
Tales of your sacrifice, we pray
God bless us all and vow to say
We’ll never fight again that way !
I miss you Mom it’s been so long
All through the years our bond was strong
Though you’ve been gone for quite a while
I still remember your sweet smile
And all the love you gave to me
When times were dark your torch was free.
Thanks for your help in those bleak days
Together while those boys were raised
You always shared that wise advice
You taught me how to compromise
I’m glad that I was there for you
Now you are gone, what shall I do ?
A man who walked with God was he
A profile of integrity
A man of honor who chose love
To please his Father there above
A man who died to save us all
From Satan’s might and last roll call !
A ballerina is so sweet
She dances on her magic feet
Her art intense her ache endures
For painful feet there are no cures
Perform she must that’s how it goes
It’s what she loves her twinkle toes !
We all owe her great empathy
She pirouettes much to our glee
Her graceful moves part of the dream
The jetes mark her dance supreme !
Oh my beloved Lord, wherefore hast Thou forsaken me
And left me here to weep and sigh for an eternity ?
The men who die to keep us free
And give their lives for victory,
They’ll never see the war’s ending
Or hear the peal of freedom ring !
They sacrifice all that could be
Without a thought or guarantee,
There was a chance they knew darn well
They could be caught and sent to hell !
Some would survive another day
While others meant to turn away,
How sad that their reward is small
For death in war rates no recall !
The soldier stands both straight and tall
He answered when his nation called
He put his dreams upon the shelf
And vowed to give both life and self.
He left his home, he went away
To learn to fight and save the day
His job was not to question why
But follow orders do or die,
And so he did and here we are
Upon the wall a golden star !
We can’t forget the children small
Whose portraits hang upon a wall
Of some far place we cannot see
Where angels guard their memory.
These little ones have paid the price
For madness and insane device
Of men who have no mind to care
About young lives and whom they spare.
Pray God soon acts to right the wrong
And beg it will not take so long.
I hear the cries of desperate men
Who do long to breathe freedom again
The sound arrives on the stillest air
I feel their pain and their dark despair.
On the lonely nights that winter brings
How can they bear all their sufferings ?
In a foreign land and so alone
May God bless those who are far from home !
Lucky Green has gone to war! And so has Hoboken, madly, wildly with shipyards and canned food factories in full swing, 24 hour shifts! Tootsie Roll factory, Maxwell House, Lipton Tea, Continental Can, Hostess Bread & Cake, Van Houton Chocolate and on and on! Lucky Strike used a dark green dye in its packaging, thus the slogan, with P. Lorillard across Observer Highway! K Rations & C Rations were made and packaged here in the frenetic hustle of World War Two. Keuffel & Esser churning out essential steel instruments, Ferguson Propellers, Fagan Ironworks, Tietjen & Lang, Fredericks along with Todd Shipyards and Bethlehem Steel all blackening our skies with the industry of war. Cigarettes were sold by the ones, called Loosies, did you know that? The trolley cars bustled along the tracks day and night! At last, there was no unemployment! Hospitals recruited high school students to pick up the slack as orderlies, nurses aides, school hours shifted to 7:30 AM, ending 2:30 PM to accomodate the desperate need for help at $20. per 5 day week of 4 hour shifts with hot meal including meat. Many stayed in the field after peacetime! We were changing and learning to survive in this brave new world. And we did! P.S.
