I watch the street as strangers pass
Across my kitchen’s window glass
It’s one by one as they pass by
They seem so sad, I want to cry
Can it be true, is this the end
Including all, both foe and friend ?
I watch the street as strangers pass
Across my kitchen’s window glass
It’s one by one as they pass by
They seem so sad, I want to cry
Can it be true, is this the end
Including all, both foe and friend ?
The sun is fading in the west
My world unravels as a test
I bear the weight of my belief
Too soon there’s nothing left but grief.
Awake my heart and try to say
Great words before you melt away
Like Dorothy ere she is caught
In winds life’s misery has brought.
Command the soul, be steady now
And to its pain refuse to bow
Then keep your place in heart and mind
Until God’s rest that you’ll soon find !
WALK WITH ME.
My gratitude, dear God above
I am surrounded by true love
My fate’s been sealed and is secure
There’s no escape, of this I’m sure
The time grows late, what else is left
Too soon it is, the world’s bereft !
Oh little Lamb, I suffer so
Please tell me when it’s time to go
What I have done my whole life through
I pray has been enough for you.
Remember me aft I am gone
And know that You have been the One
Who’s kept me on Your righteous path
And brought me all the love I hath !
The days keep folding into night
Obscuring everything in sight
Each dawn awaits the fading dark
Like spring anticipates the lark
For winter comes but once the year
To bring us all its Christmas cheer
Lets face our fears and try to fly
On wings of hope ere we shall die !
The pages of my calendar
All now seem to be flashing by
They are racing one another
I find I’m helpless as they fly.
I never thought that I would see
A time that would evaporate
This world with such rapidity
Without a chance to concentrate.
And so it is the days have passed
Without one moment to be lost
Like pictures in a looking glass
With no one there to count the cost !
Often our dreams get whisked away
Ere each one has a word to say
Too many wishes we have seen
That fall into the cracks between,
The saga of a life close to
Its pending end and what to do
We’ll find a spot to set aside
For this our last and final ride.
Our dreams and wishes are just that
A chance to wear another hat
But if you choose to praises sing,
Get set to catch the big brass ring !
There are no bridges left to cross
Nor any mountains left to climb
It’s too late now to pitch and toss
Because we have run out of time.
There is no point in looking back
The curtains drawn, the page is blank
The horse got spooked and left the track
And no one’s here we need to thank.
We have no reason now to try
I cannot ask the how and when
Believe that love just passed us by
And will not come this way again !
I find myself out on a limb
Is there some one to let me
How shall I save myself on earth
What is the value of my worth ?
I know that God is always there
And that He hears my every prayer
I’ve tried so hard to do what’s right
Each morning, noon and through the night.
My clock is running out it seems
Like all my hopes and all my dreams
The time is now to close the book
I wish to take this one last look !
I hear the wind, it stirs the trees
And whispers softly to the breeze
Please help me Lord because I’m lost
It matters not what e’er the cost
For I am old, prepared to die
And learning how to say goodbye !
Oh where am I, what do I see
This place precedes eternity
That’s full of tears and many sighs
Of past romance and sad goodbyes ?
The journey long that each must make
Full of surprise and glad mistake
Who knows what comes to light at last
After each one’s lifespan has passed ?
We hope and dream and wish for more
As we have never dared before
Since life is not a chance recall
The end is shared by one and all !
The end draws near and seems so strange
That life of man lasts but short range
While trees exist for centuries
Attested by the rings one sees.
In man there is this pressing need
For lives to fail or to succeed
As each is counted one by one
But who shall know when counting’s done ?
What quiet signals do we send
When we’ve moved so close to the end
What simple gestures do we make
When our whole system’s doomed to break ?
The moment’s here and on its own
Wherein the final action’s known
And as the fateful hour appears
A darkness falls among our peers.
Soon angel wings waft some away
To seek a dawn that’s gone astray
Forgive us Lord for all the sin
And help us save most left within
How fortunate that each may be
Depending on God’s charity !
“MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD”
PSALM/ 66:1 / 88:1 / 95:1-2 / 98:4-6 / 100:1-5 / 149:3 / et al.
It little matters what we say
Moment to moment, day to day
Our time is come, we can’t forget
As one by one, our hearts regret.
The past we’ve known, that it may be
Sweet echoes of eternity,
As sad farewell must turn away
Our hope that begs a new today !
At times I sense a whistle
As it rides upon the wind
There silent as the thistle
While it begs, “please let me in”.
When the moment seems to die
And the quiet does not bend
All the world whispers “goodbye”
And each friendship must now end !
The day grows short as twilight nears
Increasing all impending fears
The darkness moves in closer now
Casting its shadow cross the brow
Welcome to night time one and all
We’re making ready for the call
That detours each along the way
Before our lives just melt away !
I hear the echoes through the trees
Life’s shadows move with each new breeze
Old voices carry loud and clear
And fall upon the listening ear.
The book has closed the story ends
And bids farewell to all our friends
To leave one nothing more to say
Ere we are forced to look away.
But let us go in peace and calm
Believing one must do no harm
Remembering those days of yore
And all of paradise before !
What is it that we all should learn
When each of us must face our turn,
This world rotates with all about
We’re none excused nor few left out
For who’ll arrive at that sad space
Where in the end all take their place
To meet their Maker, brash or mild
As we’re nought but our Father’s child ?
I try so hard to comprehend
Why all our dreams are at their end
Or why our future is unclear,
The minds of most too full of fear ?
I thought we’d learned how to behave
To play the hero not the knave,
Accept the truth with open heart
And to define its nobler part.
We look into the mirror blind
What type of image will one find
Does no one see themselves for real
How can this nation ever heal ?
Oh Lord, dear Lord, what have we done
What madness is this we’ve begun ?
It seems the hours just tick on by
While all my days have learned to fly
There is no time for this to last
As days and months have rapid passed
And what began so long ago
Is now approaching its last show.
Wish I knew how the story ends
But I don’t have those kind of friends
I guess I’ll have to wait a bit
To see how all the pieces fit !
Now as for me when I am dead
My ashes will wind up instead
Upon the surface of the sea
Tis such a briny place to be
There float away to foreign lands
And rest at last on distant sands !
Now this has been a journey long
From birth to death, one’s telltale song
As we have been upon life’s road
Each burdened by our heavy load.
It matters not what we have thought
There in this net all have been caught
And so it is that we shall be
A cog in God’s eternity !
My heart is wild, I know the tune
I hear the sound midnight or noon
It echoes sadly aft we start
Before life ends or lives must part !
I hear voices from the past now crying
Drowning my senses with their last sighing
Alas, for all about me are dying !
Oh what a waste all wars must be
God’s lesson in futility
The silence of the gentle folk
Whose fear these fatal times invoke,
Oh would that they might wish away
The consequences of each day.
Like the last prayer the dying said
These final words ere they are dead
With all the faith they place in them
Next year dear Lord, Jerusalem !
The dearest words that we can say
Are “thank you Lord” for each new day
Tomorrow has some time to wait
Its thanks may come a day too late.
The time is now not hours hence
It only makes good common sense
The days may rise and after pass
Till we have breathed our very last
There is that moment each must know
We’ve reached the end of life’s last show !
I find myself so very sad
O’er deeds that seem to be quite mad
This world appears so upside down
With too much hatred to be found.
I fear it’s the beginning of
Great loss of faith, kindness and love
A time when peace is known no more
As Satan’s angels go to war.
Oh woe to man and earth below
For all who come as we’ll soon know
Those days that we’ve been expecting
No margins left for correcting,
Oh gracious Lord, please help us now
To evil’s will we cannot bow !
The sands of time consume my feet
In gritty piles silent, discreet
The speed of light is on its way
Its hours burn both night and day.
There is no vigil I must keep
It matters nought how long I sleep
For time does know its boundaries
It comes and goes and perhaps flees.
The winds all blow in divers ways
Tis soon the last of all my days !
