We search and search most everywhere
To seek some peace we all may share
There is no safety chaos brings
More joy is found in circus rings.
The labyrinth of life goes on
According to the airs we don
For when we’re done each must confess
One won’t be judged by style or dress !
I’ve walked among the shadows that cloud our troubled days
And wondered how the angels escaped our human ways !
I wish I were a child again
Returning to remember when
Those days gone by that I recall
When I was young and oh so small.
I never questioned for one time
That I was in some unsafe clime
I wish that I could do the same
For all those children I can’t name
Who need to seek the safety of
A world chock full of God’s true love !
My tears all tumble down I cannot halt their flow
I’ve tried so very hard they’ve nowhere else to go
I weep for the lost, the forgotten, broken, bruised
Those children who have been discarded or abused
Teardrops like summer rain keep getting in the way
How I wish I could find one tearless sunny day.
I see that times are hard for those upon the road
Though even in that past when God had shared the load
I’m sure He is still there along that rugged trail
All we can do is pray His efforts will not fail !
Now I have seen the mighty mountain and heard the restless sea
There is no greater image that my old heart may bring to me
For I am not a stranger adrift upon some foreign shore
But a native born who sees trouble that’s coming soon and more.
I pray that we acknowledge that our future holds great danger
We forgot how times are changed ere we welcomed in the stranger
And so it is that now we are prepared as we must need be
To keep our homeland safe and from all its enemies be free !
I think that I would rather be
An angel on the Christmas tree
All sparkling in its angel dust
Shining so bright as stardust must,
Or eagle from her aerie nest
Judging behavior of the best
Perhaps a swan upon the lake
Whose paddling does not water break
While even hens upon a clutch
Will warn you loudly, do not touch
I’m just a mother trying hard
To teach her children follow God !
One simple thought occurs to me
That nothing in our lives is free
We pay the price there is no choice
The time is here to raise our voice.
Sound the alarm, call in the guard
It’s sure correct to fence the yard
Prepare ourselves for the onslaught
In this morass we can’t be caught !
There is a chill it’s in the air
From tingling toes to face and hair
And warns that winter’s on the way
But doesn’t say how long she’ll stay.
Oh please old crones that rule the wind
Be kind to those who are thin-skinned
Take care they’re safe from all the cold
Though winter’s force be ever bold !
Oh Humpty-Dumpty what have we here
A world of treachery full of fear
Where are the king’s horses and his men
You know we could use their help again !
To all of us it’s become quite clear
We’ve unsafe streets, the future looks drear
We need your advice if you don’t mind
There’s a solution we must now find
Make sure we promise to not crack eggs
And pray we stand on our own two legs !
We are asea, so far afloat
Without the aid of oar and boat
Awash upon the stormy sea
Lost victims of life’s mutiny.
Reach out, reach out to touch God’s hand
To take us to the promised land
Our arms outstretched to touch the shore
Find peace restored forevermore !
I think I hear the death knell sound
Reverberating all around
Assure me, I am not insane
And that their speech is just inane.
I cannot bear what I have heard
Although it’s but the boastful word
Of those who hold no truthful call
Determined they’re above it all.
Oh Lord forgive their arrogance
Those words spoken have no defense
Please blessed Lord remember us
When come those times inglorious !
The trumpets sound, drums beat away
The voices have so much to say
Is this the future soon to come
What is it we are fleeing from ?
Is there some place that we may hide
From all the fears we’ve deep inside
Pick up the pieces, stand up tall
Let’s learn to walk before we fall !
There’s an old rocking chair I do recall
Remembrance of days when I was so small
While my nana cuddled and held me tight
If I was tired and lost or full of fright.
As we rocked away in that wornout chair
With many a ride we’d places to share
I believe each child is entitled to
A view of the world from a lap or two,
I pray each gets the opportunity
To bond with someone as special as she !
It’t early morn, the wind’s a thief
And carries danger not relief
The dampness cuts right to the bone
There is no cure or safety zone.
Tis best if we prepare ahead
To keep our bodies safe instead
Think hard about what one must do
To save ourselves and make it through.
For who can know where we have been
Or who will guess what we have seen
We’ll fight to keep our homeland safe
Believe, oh ye of little faith !
When I awoke this early morn
I thought about when I was born
It was the Great Depression clime
To most it was like world’s end time.
Who could have thought that we’d survive
Or that this world would soon revive
While clouds spread over seas and lands
Deserted towns and dust bowl sands.
Too few are left who yet recall
The poverty which did befall
With angst and agonies we knew
Like pain and failures we’ve come through.
We pray that era won’t return
There are great lessons we did learn
You must not hide your eyes in sleep
The danger grows both close and deep !
Tis long I’ve followed yon beckoning star
To seek I think what is the road too far
Since I’ve traveled long and I’ve traveled wide
And know the secrets that I need to hide,
Though all lessons taught were perfunctory
Yet each day held oh so much more to see
As the time wore on I’d begun to feel
What life’s all about is portrayed unreal !
Those angel eyes that peep at me
Through fingers that play “I can see”
Or lashes with leftover tears
From scary dreams or nighttime fears,
Some shallow breathing in the night
That gives your heart a sudden fright
You find yourself straining to hear
Sounds to assure that all is clear !
The waters rush upon the shore
The winds outshout the ocean’s roar
The frigid air invades each room
While sharing its contentious gloom.
The winter’s storm arrived at last
And left us stunned and all aghast
Well toughen up, display your grit
And pray to make the best of it !
How sweet life was just years ago
Before we each began to grow
Into the adults we now are
Although a few have gone too far.
Where did our faith and fairness go
And when will truth and justice show,
The coddled mass lacks common sense
How can they share in our defense ?
With hands outstretched await their turn
And ne’er a thought their bread to earn
So foolish they all seem to be
To sacrifice their dignity !
These winter winds embrace the night
While we all snuggle and sleep tight
Under blankets or handmade quilt
That wizened hands with love have built.
The winds do whistle through the glass
Reminding all of life’s morass
Our patience is required now
Pray we survive these times somehow.
For longer than we care to think
Our future trembles on the brink
The Lord is there and knows our plight
And safekeeps us throughout each night !
Now I have dreamt a million dreams and realised a few
The ones I value most of all are those I’ve shared with you
My heart has hardened to the pain of those who stand and wait
I cannot bear to face this world that is so full of hate
The time is come, please look about, so much for us to see
Fullfillment of His end of days and of His prophecy !
A chill pervades the morning air
Outside the glass, all seems quite fair
A thought invades my whirling mind
If I should seek what shall I find ?
A world that’s lost in rhetoric
Of words and phrases, take your pick
Or texts that pop-up anywhere
While strangers all your thoughts do share.
There’s too much info that is free
What’s happened to our privacy ?
Do you recall what it was like
When you were but a tiny tyke
And kids would play out in the rain
Barefooted, zooming like a plane ?
Or hopscotch on a city street
With concrete squares beneath your feet,
What’s happened to those days of joy
When children could be girl or boy ?
A game of tag or hide and seek
Just count to ten and do not peek,
Oh how much fun there used to be
When children were kept safe and free !
Mary, Mary, where have you been
What trouble is it you are in
Is your snow white lamb lost once more
Could he be waiting at the door ?
You need to be so careful please
Protect yourself, face, hands and knees
Perhaps you could learn self-defense
Take care when climbing any fence.
Times used to be you were a child
Quite innocent, both kind and mild
Those days are now forever gone
Keep safe my child, the world moves on !
I hear the groans from the street below
As awnings crank, tires screech and go
The blare of morning is all around
And crams the air with its frantic sound.
Oh how I miss the silence and peace
That once I knew on a distant beach
But like the mouse in the country bred
I thought I’d try the city instead.
Oh silly goose, what did you not find
You left the calm of your life behind !
Now long ago and faraway
Before the sun came out to play
A little mouse peeked out his hole
And wandered off to take a stroll.
“To see the world before I die”
While asking why, ’twas his reply
His aim, to share with other mice
He brought a bag of pilfered rice.
He traveled far, across the street
In hopes that others he would meet
But on the way with this and that
He ran into an alley cat.
The battle left no great surprise
As mousey met his sad demise
I’d like to think the moral is
Enjoy your home and mind your biz !
Oh power that rules, attend us please
Our old world is trembling on its knees
The mountains rumble the waters surge
All seem to be begging for a purge,
The woodlands burn with a heat intense
Where is the force of our own defense ?
This world in chaos appears to be
What’s left to us of civility
Open your eyes it is not too late
To challenge the demons at the gate !
I am a saddened stranger lost
Here in this world so tempest-tossed,
Its fury which does much abound
Leaves none unscathed upon the ground.
It rages through this honeycomb
Of life that is to peace unknown
Oh Lord, be kind let calm abide
There’s no place left for us to hide !
