I waken to the light outside
It’s pale and dull, on the flat side
The sun’s smile has been hid away
By clouds above, some sad and grey.
Tomorrow brings a better chance
Of love and joy mixed with romance,
Our lives are full of ups and downs
With happy smiles and miles of frowns.
Let’s spice it up, just for a bit
Perhaps, we’ll find a perfect fit !
The weather’s so much colder now
The snow is smothering each bough
A film of icy crystal grows
Across each piece of glass that shows.
The ground is heaped to ankle high
As swirling white falls from the sky
The air is quiet not a sound
The peace of God is all around.
There’s not a bird left in the air
All hide themselves in secret lair
They’ve tucked their beaks under their wings
And waken when the church bell rings !
Throughout my youth and ageing years
I’ve known the company of tears
My rainbow has appeared at last
The final role my life has cast.
I’m still on hold, accepting too
As life has taught me what to do
I wish I had the patience of
Each saint and angel up above !
While Congress prances all around
Our troops lay dying on the ground
But little care do they eschew
That comforts any other view
There is a God we must believe
Who soon our honor will retrieve !
PLEASE PASS THIS ON.
Oh life that was and is no more
Has tiptoed softly out the door
And just as peaceful laid to rest
Amidst the ages mongst the best !
Oh for the days when dreams were new
And growing up seemed over due
When children’s laughs were full of glee
And love was still a mystery.
The Lord Himself is always there
He heals our wounds and hears our prayer
Bless God for all the gifts He gives
And all the sins which He forgives !
This life is full of mix and match
Grab anything that you can catch
Hold on because you never know
What opportunities will show.
It may not seem to be enough
Though often when the going’s tough
There is a lesson we need learn
That each of us must wait our turn !
Now I have climbed the mountain high
And struggled there to touch the sky
I dreamt of visions I had seen
Somewhere above and in between
But all that time I found instead
These lofty thoughts lived in my head !
Oh Lord, there is so much pain I feel
It goes on and on, forever real
I cannot escape its iron grasp
With each breath I take, it’s like my last.
Sometimes I think it would better be
To close my eyes in lost victory
Because this needs all the strength I’ve got
One of those days that I’d rather not !
These final words that I recall
“A happy time was had by all”
Too many conversations heard
Repeat the very selfsame words.
So blest are we remembering
The greater joy families bring,
The love and care that we receive
Help all once more in hope believe !
The winter chill is moving in
It’s time to take it on the chin
Unpack your warmest set of clothes
Including scarf, gloves, hat and hose.
Your best wool sweater underneath
And don’t forget the holly wreath
I spy the frost on every bough
The weather’s truly colder now.
Could use the warmth that threatens all
As per our latest know- it- all
Somehow I think it is a ruse
And nothing close to what I ‘d choose !
Dreams are part of each one’s life scheme
For none exists without some dream
The good, the bad, the discontent
Have dreamt those that from God are sent.
The Good Book tells tale after tale
Of those angels that are regaled
The simplest babe while fast asleep
Reacts to dreams the while he sleeps.
No one eludes reality
Of this wide world of mystery
Through which all fears do ever wind,
The place where our doubts are confined !
Oh for the days of what might have been
With memories of remember when,
As the heart recalls the times we knew
When children were as all children do.
Their names are tatooed upon my brain
Like loving words of an old refrain
That tugs on those chains of kindness past,
Of the days long gone that did not last !
When I was young and full of dreams
My heart was bursting at the seams
The world about was bright and smart
And I tried hard to care impart.
The passing years grew wings and flew
I did the best that I could do.
There were some days I shan’t disguise
As tears welled up and filled my eyes.
I searched for love I could not store,
Love that I never knew before
And found it in the Word of God
In chapter, verse, t’was not that hard.
I’ve learned since then, His Truth is all
I’m waiting here upon His call !
My life is strained and hard to bear
Too many stories left to share
A little up, a little down
A happy smile, a tiny frown.
Some days are great and others sad
As life is full of good and bad
Tears are there in the midst of bliss
Where everything ends with a kiss !
Once was a man that I had known
When I was young and not full grown
Long time ago and far away
Another life, another way.
He was a man of honest pride
Direct and sweet, sincere inside
I miss him still and ever will
He holds that place none else can fill.
And if I live one hundred years
Or have to face one thousand fears
There is no one I’ll ever meet
Who shall my father’s love unseat !
The air is sharp, cuts to the bone
Why should each face their life alone
Because we’re made in pairs to start
Including body, mind and heart.
T’was God Himself who made that choice
So Adam’s rib would have a voice
And be his partner and his wife
To share with him for his whole life !
Without a word, where would we be
If this world found it’s harmony,
Ten thousand years seems time enough
To figure out the going’s rough.
I’ll never understand the why
The choice is not to live or die,
But can we hope or chance to dream
That life holds more than what we’ve seen !
This heart of mine has grown so old
As weather now turns wet and cold
The spring is just too far away
To ease the tensions of the day.
Perhaps this winter will prove kind
And happiness we each shall find
Together with the peace and calm
We garner from His Word and Psalms !
Tis the season of fall harvest
The conclusion of this past year
When all intentions do suggest
It’s time good things now do appear.
Avoid the chill and evening cold
And keep the thermos near the fire
Use scarf and gloves as we’ve been told
Thus staying warm as needs require.
The winter comes as winter goes
Mid slush and frost and icy roads
The ice may drip o’er face and nose
Aft snow surrounds us by the loads !
My heart cries out for all the pain
That visits man again, again
And where’s the peace we’re waiting for
Seems only stress walks through the door.
How much longer must this world wait
For all its chaos to abate,
What happens to the good that’s done
As years fly by, one after one,
Revering God, His perfect Word
The love and wisdom all have heard ?
There is this tugging on my heart
How did it ever get its start
A numbness rising from the floor
Into my feet and out the door.
What’s happening, I do not know
I cannot make it stop or go
Please lead me Lord, teach me the way
Help me survive each lonely day.
Where are the tears I need to cry
With each and every sad goodbye
Where are the kisses I have earned
Ere all my bridges have been burned ?
I took the path along the way
Because I knew I would not stray
The trail was long, the road was straight
My caution was I must not wait .
While age and time have much to share
About the ways in which we care
For in the end what e’er we do
Determines what and where and who !
When shades of night begin to fall
And evening hours do softly call
I find that I’m drawn to the sight
Of bright stars that light up the night,
While now and then as one zips past
It leaves a trail that does not last.
The stars are born in distant skies
Beyond the search of human eyes
The best that we can ever do
Is hope our prayers one day come true !
The sun is rising in the sky
To peer o’er roofs of homes nearby
And shine a ray of bright sunlight
To veil the darkness of each night.
The winds of chance are more discreet
As they blow change across the street
And every single breath we breathe
Is one more memory to leave !
In dreams we find life’s small escape
Some dreams are meant to keep us safe
While arms are meant to wrap around
And keep us warm with love unbound.
How wonderful this world would be
Wrapt up in God’s divinity !
My heart so full, tis sure to pop
My brain’s elated, I can’t stop
I view outside, what do I see
This image God has made for me.
There’s such rare beauty to be found
From azure sky with its surround
Like all the joy He’s gifted me
His heaven, earth, His world to see !
Here in the silence of the night
One finds the courage and the might
Of all that’s proffered in His sight
By God whose judgement is the Light !
