There is a world that lives within the magic of my mind
And in this place I know exists the actions that I find
A road that twists along the way and creatures that I meet
Are there to greet this stranger as I travel on their street.
There is a world that lives within the magic of my mind
And in this place I know exists the actions that I find

When I was small I had this toy
Of cotton cloth, it was a boy
And when I went to bed at night
I’d hug my Sammy oh so tight.
He wore long overalls of blue
His shirt was striped with pockets too
Brown hair had he of woolen yarn
His eyes were closed, his mouth a yawn.
I loved my Sam with sleepy eyes
My daddy won this grand surprise
One summer night twas after dark
In Palisades Amusement Park.
They’d spin a wheel around and round
And when it stopped the number found
Could win a prize but mostly lost
Just one thin dime was all it cost.
Sam lived with me many a year
He was my friend and brought me cheer
But after daddy went and died
Perhaps Sam ran away to hide.
I never found him after that
Of course we moved to a new flat
I’ve often hoped that he did find
Another child to treat him kind !
The year has come and flown away
This is another sanguine day
How fleetly time does pass us by
And leaves behind the tears that dried
Like memories we can’t forget
Or dreams we’ve had that haunt us yet.
I’ve learned so much as I have grown
We all must try to stand alone
For that is how each life does end
With only God as our fast friend !
There is a dream that comforts me
That one day I shall live to see
The power of our God will be
To loose our chains and set us free !
I am a saddened stranger lost
Here in this world so tempest-tossed,
Its fury which does much abound
Leaves none unscathed upon the ground.
It rages through this honeycomb
Of life that is to peace unknown
Oh Lord, be kind let calm abide
There’s no place left for us to hide !
I’ve traveled wide across the sea
To feed my curiousity
I’ve been to lands so far away
In places that I chose to stay.
Along the ridges of the cliffs
Or edges of the ocean’s rifts,
The wonders that are ours to taste
Like cultures we must not erase
Fill this old world with magic spin
And beauty we may revel in,
With so much more that’s yet to come
In God’s expected new kingdom !
Have you ever seen a mermaid when you’ve been out to sea
I’m sure that I have not nor anyone that’s known to me
Seems mermaids were a help to men at least a thousand years
There is a place on the Rhine I’ve been told that one appears,
Unlike the Disney creatures who know all the rights from wrongs,
The sailors call them Lorelei they sing enchanted songs.
Like Homer’s Sirens tempted those from Troy who homeward bound
Did flounder on the rocks about on hearing their sweet sound,
I’m sad that I might have to spend another thousand years
To hear a mermaid chant her song into my waiting ears !
The sun was hid behind the hill
It’s glimmer rose both bright and still
And warmed the air in its ascent
While hope to its surround was lent.
Be grateful that this winter’s gone
Allowing us to carry on
There are so many tasks to do
Lets tackle all not just a few.
We’ll say a prayer that this will be
A season of fertility
Perform the best way we know how
To till the land and tend the plow.
Long time ago and faraway
I dreamt a dream one special day
That someone real would come my way
And when it happened that we met
Twas such a thrill much like kismet
I felt we were on track and set !
Dreams may not be all that they seem
Perhaps pure fluff with lots of steam
I hoped we were on the same team,
Who knew what changes would be made
Or if some foolish game was played
Sad in the end when dreams just fade !
I haven’t seen a cowboy of late upon the scene
There are no cowboy idols as cool as Steve McQueen
There used to be Gene Autry his horse was Champion
Or what about Hopalong with Topper on the run ?
Dale Evans rode Buttermilk, they were the best of buds
While Roy was fond of Trigger along with other studs
Silver was so beautiful, Lone Ranger was top gun
Jay Silverheels on Scout played Tonto, Mohawk “injun”.
If there’s a cowboy heaven full of remembering
I’d love to be a cowgirl, I just refuse to sing !
Throughout our history we’ve learned
That words are more than image earned
From Cain’s admonishment reply,
“I know not”, that was his deny.
“Am I my brother’s keeper ?” so
From that day hence God made him go
Into the land of Nod went he
To live and raise his family.
( The first lie serpent spoke to Eve
“Ye shall not die”, and she believed
Alas, her true naivety
Willed us our real heredity ! )
The morn arrives both bright and new
With fragile hope soon overdue
The day awakes midst tender light
Seems we’ve just bid the world goodnight.
How fleet the time does pass us by
As youth to age will quickly fly
We barely touch what might been
Then wander off into the wind !
The picture that now greets our eyes
Perhaps too soon will don disguise
To hide away its plan perverse,
Destroy our dreams or even worse.
The time has come there’s no delay
To take a stand or kneel and pray
To beg our God He take command
Ere we are slaves in our own land !
I can remember days long gone
When we had trails to hike upon
That wound through forests clad in green
Up wooded hillsides by a stream
Along the bend where moss rose grew,
Look up you’ll catch a patch of blue.
Hundreds of trees of every size
Parade before your very eyes
Oh such a sight it was to see
What I would give once more to be
Alive upon those mountainsides
Where bits of God’s true wealth resides !
The clouds above seem ominous
And cast dark shadows over us
The wind is still and quiet now
There is no swaying of the bough.
The silence of this early morn
Bears portents of a day forlorn
Oh Lord, we weep for those we’ve lost
Is there no end to freedom’s cost,
Where is the path for us to save
Our world from such a reckless knave ?
My heart has wings, my spirit flies
Today will be a bright surprise
The air is sweet, the sky is clear
I know the grace of God is here.
So long ago on one dark day
Great plans were crushed and cast away
But rose again in truth to tell
This prophecy we all know well !
The angel tears fall all around
They sigh as each drop hits the ground
While heaven’s angels softly cry
The darkened times echo their sigh.
Can you guess why it seems so sad
This day recalls the death He had
Reminding us the hope that’s given
By our blest Lord as He has risen !
This morning as I rose from bed
I thought about the day ahead
And hoped that God would pave the way
For all of us who grateful pray
That peace and calm might once more reign
While love and joy their power regain,
Not only for the day at hand
But all that’s within His command !
EXCUSE ME but I was raised with my mother’s familiar and oft repeated admonition that echoed Sir Walter Scott’s lines from his lengthy poem “Marmion”, you know the one, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. In retrospect that simple homily is far more applicable today than it would have been in the Garden of Eden ! Quite an observation, eh ? I encourage you to consider all of today’s headlines, storylines and psycho-babble, is this not part of that oh-so-tangled web ? Lord, save us from the power of those who know everything ! I readily admit that I know nothing, I find that somehow comforting ! How about you ? Sincerely, Claire B.
Oh magic wand, where have you gone
We need your help to carry on
The weatherman decrees more snow
Where did your special powers go ?
How long is it we’ll have to wait
For spring to enter our front gate,
Oh springtime sprite you’re overdue
Do you need help to make it through ?
Dear snowfairy, it’s time to fly
We beg of you, please say goodbye !
They’ve walked and talked and played a bit
They’ve tossed and lost, made fun of it
As playmates they have shared a game
They ran about and called each name.
For that is what small children do
Beginning to form friendships true
While all the years that pass between
Hold fast as they become a teen.
Their friendships have a special bond
They cling to those of whom they’re fond
They fill the hours of youthful days
In trying out our grownup ways.
God plays a role for they must grow
Into adults who need to know
Because this task is too intense
Who speaks for them in their defense
The problem is in growing up
One needs to drink from every cup !
I wish that I could stop the clocks
Or pause their bold tick-tock, tick-tocks
They tick away the hours we’ve got
And hasten what will be our lot.
That minute comes without delay
When we must face our exit day
Be strong because twill meet us all
Who knows if it be spring or fall.
Arrive it does be sure of that
Don’t pack a bag, you need no hat
There’s no rewinding anywhere
For tis the end of life’s affair !
It is much fun to walkabout
To run and skip and laugh and shout
How easily we make the case
That all of us wear the same face !
But do we know that this is true
Examples set by me and you
No two alike, no two the same
Each, disability to claim.
We’re not all blind, but shackled are
By speech that blames chaos afar
Who ever dreamt that there would be
A world crammed with war amputees !
Flying carpets where have you gone
I need a rug to ride upon
Perhaps a shell like Venus had
Or dolphin’s back, like Alan Ladd.
We should recall those olden days
When fantasy was all the rage
And films and books and fables old
Like fairy tales were stories told.
Today the truth is all we’ve got
Accepting that, I’d rather not
While Ali Baba was his name
Those forty thieves brought him his fame
Arabia was mystic too
I liked it then, well didn’t you ?
Today tis sad, this world to think
It seems we’ve reached the final brink
There’s no time left for let’s pretend
The world we knew has met its end !
Those images that I recall
So long ago when I was small
My father’s laugh, my mother’s smile
Sweet memories held by a child
The smells, the sounds that filled the air
The joyous times that we all shared.
Oh how grown up it was to be
Included in their company
Such love held fast both now and then
And glowed as I remember when !
There is great wisdom in the thought
To treasure all the lessons taught
Those stories to the children told
Of leaders wise and heroes bold
With roots steeped in our history
Filled with great hope and mystery.
This saga of our faith and dreams
Believing now much nearer seems !
If I were a rainbow my home would be the sky
You would see my colors if mist were passing by
The sun must be behind if you’re to catch the glow
There through tiny raindrops it’s time to see the show.
Only seven colors the spectrum is complete
Oh what a sight to show majestic and so sweet
And such a great reminder that God is ever there
Keeping every promise that we were meant to share !
