Where is the caution that we need
Like all the rules that we must heed
What’s happened to our sanity
Now drowning in profanity ?
Take care, my dear, we’ve just begun
The journey’s long and void of fun
Make sure that you do not lose sight
Of all the tremors of the night.
Remember when the fog rolls in
That each accepts his own chagrin
There is no cover one may choose
The answer is we all do lose !
Slowly, slowly, as years unwind
What kind of future shall we find,
Where are the endless ways we’ve lost
And who is left to count the cost
Oh foolish ones of no context
Please tell us what will be the next !
I have often pondered how it’s done
How life progresses aft battles won
Or how one knows when it is enough
As the road runs easy, smooth or rough ?
Who makes a choice either high or low
When the winds of life begin to blow
And how is it one comprehends
If the paths we follow know no ends ?
Is there a voice that but few may hear
To whisper softly into each ear
Take care my child as the way is steep
And the hole we dig may be too deep ?
There is one fact that I observe
In friendships that we would preserve
If you speak somewhat softer now
T’would seem a better job somehow.
There’s no such thing as always right
There is but proper and polite
Try please to keep an open mind
For greater knowledge you may find,
There are some limits to recall
As none should be a know-it-all !
EXCUSE ME but I was raised with my mother’s familiar and oft repeated admonition that echoed Sir Walter Scott’s lines from his lengthy poem “Marmion”, you know the one, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. In retrospect that simple homily is far more applicable today than it would have been in the Garden of Eden ! Quite an observation, eh ? I encourage you to consider all of today’s headlines, storylines and psycho-babble, is this not part of that oh-so-tangled web ? Lord, save us from the power of those who know everything !
