Good morning world I’d like to say
I wish you all a bonnie day
With hugs and kisses in between
Lots of love and sweet whipping cream.
A bit of chocolate everywhere
The smell of taffy in the air
But what I think I’d like the most
A walk in sand along the coast,
Remembering those days long gone
Recalling life’s lost halcyon !
I found my love when but a teen
I knew great joy at seventeen
I thought the world was lean and keen
When I had turned just seventeen.
The times were tough and war was mean
When I was only seventeen
My heart got broken neat and clean
And there I was but seventeen.
All through those years that passed unseen
Life disappeared at seventeen
I wish my time had been pristine
Like once it was at seventeen
I’d sacrifice the years between
Again to be just seventeen !
If wishes had wings I’d rise and fly
Across the wilderness of the sky
To meet with the angels in the air
And follow them home to tarry there.
Now angels appear to be quite strong
I am guessing that their lives are long,
Perhaps thousands of years more or less
A great mystery I must confess.
If I have to wait too long to see
I pray they’ll keep their watch over me !
Oh little birds where have you been
We’ve missed your chirps and cheeky spin
It seems as though it’s been too long
Since you’ve been here to sing your song.
The winter’s gone, so glad of that
Can’t wait to hear C sharp or flat
Oh little birds please fail us not
Without your sounds what have we got ?
Reach out, reach out, I cannot grasp
I feel my life escaping fast
Hold on, hold on, your turn is near
To face the Lord pray without fear.
Awake, awake, the hour has come
This journey long will soon be done !
I have walked by the side of the road
As the Lord helped me carry my load
I have treasured the words that He spoke
Though my spirit’s been bent it’s not broke.
I have wandered across this great land
With its vistas all spacious and grand
Like the lady who lives by the sea
Holding the torch of our liberty
And I know in my heart it is true
I adore the old red white and blue !
I’ve failed to take the time to say
To folks I’ve met along the way
How grateful I have always been
For kindness shown, to my chagrin.
So many things get left behind
I’m loathe to think I’ve been unkind
But vow to try to make amends
As best I can to all my friends.
For friendship is this special thing
That carries care upon its wing
And shares the hopes we’re dreaming of
Amid abundance of our love !
I have been to the top of the mountain to seek my destiny
I have walked through the valley of shadows to find my clarity
I have begged of the gods above me to silently hear my plea
There on the altar of justice I accept whatever must be !
When I was small I had this toy
Of cotton cloth, it was a boy
And when I went to bed at night
I’d hug my Sammy oh so tight.
He wore long overalls of blue
His shirt was striped with pockets too
Brown hair had he of woolen yarn
His eyes were closed, his mouth a yawn.
I Â loved my Sam with sleepy eyes
My daddy won this grand surprise
One summer night twas after dark
In Palisades Amusement Park.
They’d spin a wheel around and round
And when it stopped the number found
Could win a prize but mostly lost
Just one thin dime was all it cost.
Sam lived with me many a year
He was my friend and brought me cheer
But after daddy went and died
Perhaps Sam ran away to hide.
I never found him after that
Of course we moved to a new flat
I’ve often hoped that he did find
Another child to treat him kind !
There is a dream that comforts me
That one day I shall live to see
The power of our God will be
To loose our chains and set us free !
My heart has wings, my spirit flies
Today will be a bright surprise
The air is sweet, the sky is clear
I know the grace of God is here.
So long ago on one dark day
Great plans were crushed and cast away
But rose again in truth to tell
This prophecy we all know well !
The angel tears fall all around
They sigh as each drop hits the ground
While heaven’s angels softly cry
The darkened times echo their sigh.
Can you guess why it seems so sad
This day recalls the death He had
Reminding us the hope that’s given
By our blest Lord as He has risen !
This morning as I rose from bed
I thought about the day ahead
And hoped that God would pave the way
For all of us who grateful pray
That peace and calm might once more reign
While love and joy their power regain,
Not only for the day at hand
But all that’s within His command !
Those images that I recall
So long ago when I was small
My father’s laugh, my mother’s smile
Sweet memories held by a child
The smells, the sounds that filled the air
The joyous times that we all shared.
Oh how grown up it was to be
Included in their company
Such love held fast both now and then
And glowed as I remember when !
There is great wisdom in the thought
To treasure all the lessons taught
Those stories to the children told
Of leaders wise and heroes bold
With roots steeped in our history
Filled with great hope and mystery.
This saga of our faith and dreams
Believing now much nearer seems !
A little bird, you know the one
Invites me now to have some fun
Entreating me to hurry up
And try to fill my empty cup
With something more than wishes and
A hug, a kiss or joy’s glad hand.
But I’m afraid he’ll have to wait
For God and I, we have a date
And stuff, it just gets in the way
There’s no time left for aimless play !
Today I wish to say a prayer
For those who are no longer there
I miss you all and pray that you
Are in a place where dreams come true.
The good book says we rest in sleep
There are no memories we keep
Perhaps this is the best of all
As we must wait for God’s recall.
If I do get a message through
Remember please, I still love you !
There is a song I used to sing
I hear its faint familiar ring
It echoes often in my mind
Recalling shadows that rewind
Of days that are forever gone
Though memory still lingers on.
If I should pass this way once more
I’m sure I’d walk through that same door
To visit what was yesterday
Once more to hear that tune replay !
Oh tiny one how sweet you are
You glow and shine, you’re mommy’s star
Oh little angel here on earth
There is no price could buy your worth !
Our God in heaven up above
Gifted each with unblemished love
There are so many ways to show
True love for Him as each does grow.
Remember how to thankful be
And grateful that His love is free !
The wind has wings you cannot see
It gathers leaves from every tree
It shuttles snow across the sky
And corrals the spores that soon fly.
Each bird that rises on the wing
Will travel on its whispering
While seeds that have in season dried
Must speed to fine some niche to hide.
This is the way God’s process works
Part of His scheme and all the perks !
Today I feel completely free
I pray there are no strings on me
Where e’er I go, what e’er I do
To my own self I shall be true !
I’m sure that God is by my side
He knows the truth and if I lied
I have been blessed in many ways
He loves me and accepts my praise.
I thank our Lord with all my heart
My life is His right from the start !
I do my exercise each day
It helps to keep doldrums away
I speak with God all of the time
He never tires of my rhyme
At least I think He’s not upset
I haven’t had an answer yet !
Tred softly friend the world is wide
One cannot know what dwells inside
In faith we all have tales to tell
There is no mystery or spell.
Each dawn awakes to a new day
We’ll beg the night to fade away
Let’s close our eyes pretend to be
A world in perfect harmony !
Fantastic visions fill my head
As I lie here upon my bed
I feel as though I’m in between
The space that lives twixt wake and dream.
My visions are so truly clear
What e’er I see seems strangely near
My heart pales, I can’t catch my breath
What is it like so close to death ?
A simple sound defiles the air
And stills the gloom, be gone despair
I’ve things to do I can’t forget
This is too soon it’s not time yet !
A ballerina is so sweet
She dances on her magic feet
Her art intense her ache endures
For painful feet there are no cures
Perform she must that’s how it goes
It’s what she loves her twinkle toes !
We all owe her great empathy
She pirouettes much to our glee
Her graceful moves part of the dream
The jetes mark her dance supreme !
Open the door and come on in
God awaits all, forgiving sin
That day is coming very fast
Our problems have become so vast.
Where shall the hordes of fleeing go
To reach God’s arms before the woe
Keep calm and do not lose your place
He will remember every face !
There is a quilt upon my bed
With snippets of the life I’ve led
It’s made of patches bright and bold
And meant to save me from the cold.
This quilt has kept me warm for years
It’s shared my dreams, my hopes, my fears
And every piece of fabric sewn
Does have a story of its own !
Blind-stitched it is and all by me
Each patch contains a memory
My hands are old and gnarled a bit
Still they have shaped each square to fit.
I wish these rules would all apply
To life we know before we die
With needle, thread and sharpened shears
We’d patch the world and scrap our tears !
This road that I have chosen is lonely cold and dark
The path that I now follow is truly bare and stark
There’s no other option either here or on the way
Once the journey has begun the rule is you must stay.
It’s taken up too much time this is my foolish choice
Lord, I beg You walk with me I know You’ve heard my voice
I’ve made my share of errors I’m sure You’ve watched me fall
I ask for Your forgiveness I’ve been ashamed to call.
But that’s all over now I cannot change what is done
I simply need to finish this task I have begun !
