Oh, for the days that were and are no more
And those paths that lead us to heaven’s door
May God be there to greet each as we come
With an open heart and the word welcome !
Oh, for the days that were and are no more
And those paths that lead us to heaven’s door
May God be there to greet each as we come
With an open heart and the word welcome !
The sun is shining in the sky
The gentle breeze is passing by
The trees are laden with new green
There’s ne’er a cloud that can be seen.
The birds are busy housekeeping
Sometimes I hear the faint peeping
I ponder how much more we’ll wait
Until they gather at the gate
I love to hear their joyous song
It makes me feel that I belong !
I had some company today
They were scratch-scratching on my door
They really hadn’t come to play
Although I knew what they came for !
There is a shelf about so high
That from the doorway you can see
And on it those treats that you buy
Stuffed into jars filled with goodies.
“Well how are you” said I to them
Two pair of eyes grew very wide
“How nice to see you once again
And would you like to come inside ?”
They never seem to make a mess,
They leave no crumbs upon the floor
They are polite and cause no stress
And leave no paw prints on my door !
I’d like to be a shining star
Whose light did twinkle from afar
Oh what great fun that it would be
If little children wished on me !
I’d like to be a chapel bell
That every day the hour must tell
From faraway you’d hear the chime
That’s how you knew what was the time !
But better still I wish that I
Had angel wings so I might fly
To greet you all at Peter’s gate
Just to make sure you aren’t late !
The morning dawns as daylight breaks
The world’s alive, the new day wakes
As time rotates around the sun
Some days begin when some are done.
I’ll never get the hang of it
I try to make the pieces fit,
How rapidly this life can change
I find the transformation strange.
What is today soon goes away
To leave just one more yesterday,
Tomorrow waits for dark to come
Ere we bid her joyous welcome !
The lady in the harbor that we call Liberty
Stands waving her approval for all the world to see
She’s been there far too long on that island in the bay
Think of all that she has seen and what she has to say.
May the Lord in heaven look down kindly from above
Protecting our great nation and values that we love !
High on the precipice I left my foolish fears
There silent and alone amidst my falling tears
Vowing not to be that sad soul forever more
Training my eye to focus on God’s open door
For He has said to all that we are welcome here
We’re free to come and go, to laugh and cry or cheer !
Our lady in the harbor with torch held oh so high
She waves as strangers greet her while they are passing by
She is a precious omen that opens wide the door
To bid each one a welcome who comes here searching for
A little bit of heaven, the chance to be one’s own
Reach out to touch the angels who call this land their home !
Open the door and come on in
God awaits all, forgiving sin
That day is coming very fast
Our problems have become so vast.
Where shall the hordes of fleeing go
To reach God’s arms before the woe
Keep calm and do not lose your place
He will remember every face !
Great flocks of seagulls fill the sky
My heart now hopes that spring is nigh
Oh, what a marvelous surprise
A blessed sight for worn out eyes !
