There was a tree that I had seen
Quite lush and large and oh so green
When I was young and not so tall
The tree had barely grown at all.
I’ve watched it age through all the years
Some good, some bad, some full of fears
But always spreading out each limb
As if in thanks offered to Him.
The tree is old, well I am too
If truth be told, we’ve shared a view
Times are long past, we’ve had our day
So like that tree nought left to say !
There is a thought which fills my mind
That life has been both cruel and kind
Tis full of many ups and downs
Replete with smiles and a few frowns.
When all is well, rough storms appear
The weather, it’s not always clear
At times I’m sure we’ve been undone
When all seems cold and not much fun.
But wait a moment look about
The sun has opted to come out
To save us from catastrophe
Life is God’s true dichotomy !
I cannot bear the thought of life without
Their special love that never leaves a doubt
A love that permeates the air we breathe
That has not learned to lie or to deceive !
The man is father to the child
A mother’s care is fair and mild
Grandparents teach the child respect
While governments police neglect
The educators fill their mind
As God does all their blessings find !
The sun keeps rising every day
The children small still run and play
The wind does blow swift through the trees
The branches swaying in the breeze,
The sounds of life enhance the air
Ensuring all that God is there
His giant task needs be assured
Please help us Lord to feel secured !
Now I have dreamt a thousand dreams and cried a million tears
I’ve wandered lost a lifetime long and fought a hundred fears
I’ve counted stars on lonely nights and mended wounded hearts
I’ve learned to live in quiet peace and prayed for brand new starts
Tis time to thank the Lord above for all that I’ve received
I’m grateful that He cushioned me and never once deceived !
There are few words left for us to say
To make our troubles fly fast away
There are few dreams left for us to keep
No matter waking or fast asleep
There are few years left to get it straight
Before we shall meet at heaven’s gate !
The times have changed and we have too
But not our faith, we’ll see it through
Our Lord is steadfast, kind and true
He knows it all what e’er we do.
The more we learn and understand
The more we’re able to command
For that’s all meant to be quite grand
The peace of God is what’s at hand !
I hope I never see the day
When all my words have fled away
And all the thoughts that fill my head
From morn to night are left unsaid.
But when that happens, heed me now
I pray you will recall somehow
My words have been both kind and wise
And taught you truth prevails o’er lies !
Nay, do not flail against the darkness
That is a battle you cannot win
There’s but one way to beat its starkness
Just use a candle to bring light in !
Is there a goal that one must seek
To make us stronger, not so weak,
A purpose that each one must find
To help escape a path unkind.
A babe is born most are the same
Except for color, sex and name
It’s left to them to win or lose
The way of life that each shall choose.
Some win, some fail, some others cry
And there are those who never try !
When I was young and not so smart
I fell in love and lost my heart
It didn’t take too long for me
To learn that love’s not always free !
No matter what, I can’t explain
Why life holds passion in disdain
We’re told true love will never die
For many that becomes a lie !
My heart is full, I cannot speak
My arms and legs are oh, so weak
I fear that life is passing by
I’ve no strength left to laugh or cry,
But try I shall and try I may
To hold on tight another day.
What else is there to keep me here
A taste of happiness or cheer,
The thought that God does love us all
And picks us up ere we may fall !
I thought that love had come to stay
One knows true love won’t run away
For you and I were born to be
Two partners through eternity.
I’d always dreamt that this was so
No matter what or where we’d go
Though sometimes I did have a doubt
If this is what all love’s about ?
I tried so hard to stay the course
I didn’t care who was the boss
Since you and I had one intent
That for each other we were meant.
Somehow, somewhere it went astray
While all our hopes did melt away
So much for dreams and plans well made
Like future joys that got mislaid.
I often wondered what went wrong
Was I too weak, were you not strong
After the bliss of that first kiss
Why does love fade to hit or miss ?
At times I feel that I cannot last
Until this current winter has passed
There are no plans that I wish to make
No celebrations or birthday cake
No special outings or travel plans
Or any trips to some foreign lands
I’d rather stay here close to my home
Then venture out or decide to roam.
Now as I trek to the local store
I may find just what I’m searching for
There is a chance if I’m very good
That somewhere near in my neighborhood
Perhaps one corner under some tree
Popping through snow as bold as can be
One tiny crocus will rear its head
Promising all that hope is not dead !
I try so hard to comprehend
Why all our dreams are at their end
Or why our future is unclear,
The minds of most too full of fear ?
I thought we’d learned how to behave
To play the hero not the knave,
Accept the truth with open heart
And to define its nobler part.
We look into the mirror blind
What type of image will one find
Does no one see themselves for real
How can this nation ever heal ?
Oh Lord, dear Lord, what have we done
What madness is this we’ve begun ?
With all the nonsense we do see
We’re so thankful for our country
We have so much just look around
It is the finest to be found.
One nation of the brave and free
A bastion of our liberty
Which many now scheme to destroy
Whatever methods they’ll employ.
In truth our God is always there
To answer our unending prayer
And keep us safe no matter what
We pledge our lives and all we’ve got !
Dear Lord above, I love you so
So much I see, so much I know
I cannot wait until that day
When all our debts we must repay.
Though most may mourn or curse their fate
In truth with me, I cannot wait
There will be more that’s yet to come
God’s gift to grant or take from some.
The promise always has been there
Of love and peace and joy to share
The prophets promised long ago
We’ll only reap what we do sow !
So long ago and quite faraway
In the world that was then, not today
There lived a priest they called Valentine
He married couples most of the time.
But Claudius, great emperor he
Needed all young men for his army
Thus marriage was a forbidden joy
For many a Roman girl or boy.
Well Valentine refused to abate
And so he suffered that triple fate
Torture, stoning, beheading also
This was the way that he had to go
Oh sad for him twas too long ago
Who knew he’d become our great hero ?
Amazing word, how sweet it is
To love the Lord and to be His!
With all my strength I pray that He
Will never leave or forsake me
My sins forgive and love me true
There is no more I ask of You
And so this day I’ll ever keep
The promise made before I sleep,
And if it be I should not wake
I beg You Lord my soul please take !
I often think no matter what
That I will give all that I’ve got
And pray that I’m much better than
Some mediocre protest plan !
I’ll stand up for the land I love
Her people that I am proud of
Her flag and constitution too
The honor of red, white and blue
I sure hope most will join with me
To fight to keep our liberty !
Oh how I wish the world could know
Our God is everywhere we go
The air we breath, the sky of blue
The birds that fly and oceans too.
The wind that blows, the earth below
Fields that bloom and the trees that grow
The lakes and streams and rivers all
The valleys that do rise and fall,
Those creatures that dwell in the seas
And furnish food for all who please
This wond’rous world that fills our space
Reminds us all of God’s sweet grace !
If I could have a magic wand
Or star that I might wish upon
To make your dearest dream come true
Or create memories for you
Then I would chalk myself a win
And thank my God with an amen.
For that is what a mother does
And all she is or ever was
No matter what their age may be
Each child is still her sweet baby !
The wind it whistles round the bend
And seems to whine “I’m here again”
It travels on to conquer more
With hoary breath and gusty roar
Oh, hear the sound and noisy shout
I sure get tired of striking out !
I find myself so much confused
Insulted and at times amused
By all the trash that fills our world
With ignorance and anger hurled !
Can you hear all those words they shout
Do you know what they’re wild about,
To be fair do you have a thought
As to this web in which we’re caught ?
I’m saddened by what people think
And understand they’re on the brink,
I beg You God to help them all
Find peace while decency recall !
Isn’t it amazing we are living on the brink
With each and every moment of how we breathe and think
We’ve been taught to earn our keep in the old fashioned way
And we are growing better with what we do each day
The lesson we have learned is that God is always there
While He watches over us and does our burdens share !
Oh what a place this nation is
Full of vim, vigor, pep and whiz,
Like bottles of rare bubbly wine
From grapes of joy grown on the vine
Transformed to champagne in our lives
Granting all goodness that revives
Ask that one Special Force above
To bless us with unending love !
Sometimes I believe there is no end
To all the troubles fleet time may send
And how can we in good faith respond
As we find ourselves so put upon ?
Where is the justice that we must seek
To save us whether brave, mild or meek
What is it that we’ve been searching for
Or hope to find behind God’s locked door ?
