Each day that I do read God’s Law
I gain so much, far more and more
And as each word comes clear to me
I search for greater clarity.
Now I’ve been at this since I’m small
And barely have a grasp at all
Yet every day I comprehend
To God’s advice, there is no end !
I’ve often wondered why it’s so
That sadness follows where we go
And life is never thought complete
Without these stories of defeat
Or why we rally to the cause
Of infidels and unjust wars
And so the cycle carries on
When will all wars cease and be gone ?
Now I have trudged this rocky path
With angry crowds so full of wrath
I really don’t know what to think
Seems sanity is on the brink
There’s not much left to make great sense
The climate has become intense.
Participants are so inclined
Pretending to be dumb and blind
But stop before one does the deed
The rule in hand all must concede
The Lord demands that he alone
Who sinless be, cast the first stone !
We shall not run out of values at stake
That is an action that we will not take
For the facts are what this is all about
Either spoken gently or with a shout,
Only time can tell as each day rolls on
There is this thought that we depend upon.
When the winter’s young and the cold is new
We own the courage to make this come true
That as we age and experience mounts
There is the moment when true wisdom counts.
You may do your best making fools of all,
But who will stand at last clarion’s call ?
So long ago and quite faraway
In the world that was then, not today
There lived a priest they called Valentine
He married couples most of the time.
But Claudius, great emperor he
Needed all young men for his army
Thus marriage was a forbidden joy
For many a Roman girl or boy.
Well Valentine refused to abate
And so he suffered that triple fate
Torture, stoning, beheading also
This was the way that he had to go
Oh sad for him twas too long ago
Who knew he’d become our great hero ?
I wish I were an elephant
With rugged trunk so long and thick
T’would be my speaking instrument
The trumpet sounds both loud and quick.
I grunt and growl and rumble too
Traveling with the herd for miles
My hooves send messages to you
While trunks curve down for friendly smiles.
I’m told that I am very smart
My memory so ever long
Seems I’ve an extra loving heart
Among all beasts I’m the most strong.
Now I’ve been here since mammoth days
And that is like forever time
By now you should respect my ways
And help me to survive decline !
