We’ve heard the tales, we know them well
The stories that the legends tell
Of heroes great both old and new
Who did the best that they could do.
They built this nation bright and strong
Accepting all who would belong
And turned our land into a place
Where freedom thrives in love and grace !
We found our faith, both strong and mild
When most believed in the Christ Child
We sang His hymns and spread His prayer
Because we knew that He was there
Life seemed to be quite simple then
I wish we could go back again !
The sound rings out on Sunday morn
A peal of bells faint and forlorn
See how it echoes on the air
A calling card for all to share.
Oh how I wish the time were near
Believers everywhere could hear
Sweet freedom ring across the land
A new world under God’s command !
Give me the words, dear Lord to say
To help me make it through each day
Show me the path, the way to go
Guide me oh Lord to goodness grow !
The hum of life is all around
Hear now its rapid growing sound
Why even bees get in their share
You’ll find they’re busy everywhere.
The leaves are rustling overhead
I wish I knew what’s being said
The world today’s a mystery
With much to learn and more to see
Oh blessed Lord why must we wait
For angels to unlock the gate ?
Do feel the sun, its warmth is there
As is the scent upon the air
That flutters sweetly on the breeze
And waltzes lightly through the trees
Oh pleasures all, where have you gone
Where is this dream we’re counting on ?
The Lord above is kind and sweet
And holds our hand e’en in defeat
He knows when we have had enough
And smooths the path when it is rough
God bless us all, may we survive
Until Lord Jesus will arrive !
Now I have trudged this rocky path
With angry crowds so full of wrath
I really don’t know what to think
Seems sanity is on the brink
There’s not much left to make great sense
The climate has become intense.
Participants are so inclined
Pretending to be dumb and blind
But stop before one does the deed
The rule in hand all must concede
The Lord demands that he alone
Who sinless be, cast the first stone !
The lonely heart doth patient wait
For those who file past heaven’s gate
There is no cause to cry aloud
For who will hear in such a crowd.
The constant vigil all must wage
Before each earns space on life’s stage
The issue is just do your best
And pray that God supplies the rest !
I’ve watched the snowflakes filter down
And heard the rain pelter the ground
I’ve seen the stars zip cross the sky
While clouds above are flying by.
I’ve felt the wind rush through the air
As autumn helped her trees go bare
The summer rains are fresh and clear
And hum a song the birds can hear.
The world’s in tune, the season’s bright
Tis soon to bid all sweet goodnight !
The early stillness fills the air
With signs of calm we all may share
Oh shall our Lord in truth forbear
And cram each day with love to spare !
Oh Hercules, great Hercules come sit awhile with me
Please tell me the story of how strong Atlas set you free
I sure could use a hero who would be as grand as you
To save me from trouble the way that heroes often do.
I know about your labors and how it all came to be
I’d like to hear the story of your ancient history
It doesn’t matter where we’ll meet or whether near or far
I would be glad to shake the hand of such a rising star !

Sometimes my dear, the world we know
Is not the one we’d like to show
Sometimes coditions are not clear
As we are caught in doubt or fear
Please help us Lord fine tune our lives
In manner kind where goodness thrives !
There are some days I still recall
When all my babies were quite small
They laughed a lot and cried some too
Midst pillows, quilts, scissors and glue.
The kitchen floor, their happy place
With lessons and great playing space
It was the classroom served them best
That through the years withstood each test.
I relish now the times we had
When all were young, not yet a lad
So full of hope who could forget
And nothing left to hold regret !
I loved my father I sure did
That is a fact I never hid
I wonder what he’d think of me
If he were here today to see.
With all the years that he’s been gone
Seems now to be a time too long
I wonder how we two might greet
If ever we should chance to meet ?
Well that is just pure fantasy
Though I sure wish that it could be !
Now I have lived quite a long time
In varied places and other clime
And learned that one must try to fit
Into each spot that’s part of it.
When but a child, the horse and cart
Is how our travel had its start
Next came the Ford all black and square
While in the rear its trunk was there.
Those skinny tires were truly sad
I cannot count the flats we had
Oh for those days that are long gone
Sweet memories my heart dwells on !
How sweet it is to greet each day
To wake each morn in peace and pray,
We thank you Lord for one more chance
To fill our days with life’s romance.
Who can be sure which season’s best
The springtime is so full of zest
While summer grabs our fantasy
It’s packed with much frivolity.
The fall rocks with its sounds and song
Until brisk winter comes along
But most can’t wait till snow appears
When all are caught in Yuletide cheers !
Wake up, wake up, let’s give a cheer
The son of God’s expected here
We know He’s coming any day
Our job is to prepare His way
Look up, look up unto the skies
Expect it soon,our grand surprise !
There’s often a thought that I have had
That life’s not clearly all good or bad
And sometimes trauma gets in the way
Like visions we’ve had that go astray.
Tis foolish to think we’re of one mind
For this world consists of every kind
The short and tall or the lean and fat
Those who prefer either this or that,
Only time will tell where all this ends
We can be enemies or make friends !
Be still my heart, I hear your beat
And from my forehead to my feet
The numbness reaches to my toes
Tis strange the way this feeling grows.
At times my heart seems in my throat
I think that I could almost float
The fear it rises, comes and goes
When will this end, nobody knows.
But God’s here standing by my side
He holds my hand, He is my ride
I know that He is still my strength
However long be my lifes length !
There is one thing of which I’m sure
This world we know is not secure
There is no written promise that
Our hopes and dreams will not fall flat
We none of us have guarantees
But are tenacious if you please.
No warranties or money back
Be ready for life’s sneak attack
Just place your faith in God above
Give all you’ve got including love !
There is no way one can explain
Why children love to splash in rain
Or why the mud is so much fun
In which to slide upon one’s bun.
There’s no accounting for the joy
That comes to every girl or boy
To screech as loudly as they may
To frighten every bug away.
Or why each babe will play with you
The game grownups call “peekaboo”
And truly I do not know why
They all believe that angels fly !
With timid breath and frosted heart
Too many wait for life to start !
I hear the echoes from the street
Of hasty and retreating feet
Some voices carry on the breeze
And filter through the veil of trees.
Those sounds that do survive the night
Will disappear in morning’s light
The world awakes both old and young
When daybreak comes, the night time’s done !
Tis true that tears are often sweet
That courage rises from defeat,
That wisdom needs to curb its cheek
With all those words that it may speak.
While silence is the calmest way
To channel all our fears away
It’s working hard that is the call
To save us from decline and fall !
There was a tree that I had seen
Quite lush and large and oh so green
When I was young and not so tall
The tree had barely grown at all.
I’ve watched it age through all the years
Some good, some bad, some full of fears
But always spreading out each limb
As if in thanks offered to Him.
The tree is old, well I am too
If truth be told, we’ve shared a view
Times are long past, we’ve had our day
So like that tree nought left to say !
The shifting sands of life do blow
Across our vision wide and slow
And changes all the views we see
As we seek out God’s harmony.
The winds of time have come and gone
And left our dreams both pale and wan
Escape, escape, that cannot be
For none but death shall set us free !
A precious gift we each receive
Which all are anxious to believe
A God who’s there to see us through
In all the deeds that we shall do.
We thus are meant to comprehend
That life continues without end
So we must learn that day by day
There is a role that all will play.
Its parts are varied one by one
The task ahead begs to be done
To see each other as a friend
And pray for peace until the end !
