My gratitude, dear God above
I am surrounded by true love
My fate’s been sealed and is secure
There’s no escape, of this I’m sure
The time grows late, what else is left
Too soon it is, the world’s bereft !
My gratitude, dear God above
I am surrounded by true love
My fate’s been sealed and is secure
There’s no escape, of this I’m sure
The time grows late, what else is left
Too soon it is, the world’s bereft !
Days come and go, life is that way
We live in hope, then fade away
The days are long but time is short
While in life’s web, we are all caught.
The chances are we’re not done yet
There is much more that we can get
Let’s fill our hearts, fulfill our dreams
And love our God just reams and reams !
Each time that I sit down to eat
I notice there’s an unfilled seat
It’s been like that for quite awhile
I don’t feel ready yet to smile.
I wish your laugh and wisdom’s word
Were still the pleasantries I’d heard
For times have changed, you’re gone away
I miss you more, day after day !
Who’d ever guess that I should be
Alone at last upon life’s sea,
I never thought that I would share
My dinners with an empty chair !
When I was young I used to pray
That I would be a mom one day
I’d raise my offspring to be good
And do the things that children should.
I’d hoped that we’d fulfill the dream
It was a lock or so it seemed
The angels watched from up above
And filled their heads with care and love.
But love is not enough to save
Each one of them from perils grave
There is no way that we may know
Wherein life’s tragedies will grow.
In winds of war or illness great
Who knows the time or day or date ?
Throughout the world, before too long
Folks will count most eight billion strong
There’s no two that will be exact
Believe, because this is a fact.
While each must follow their own track
Sadly there is no turning back
So just keep going and perform
And try your best to rules conform.
There is no right, there is no wrong
We seem to land where we belong
The only Power we’re subject to
Is God above, He’ll see us through !
The winds of March are queueing up
Before life brews its final cup
The tedium of time is here
Each destination looms unclear
Perhaps tomorrow each may learn
The heritage that we have earned ?
This world we know is dying fast
It seems that peace will never last
In truth it cannot ever win
There is no way we can begin.
The die was cast too long ago
There’s no route left to touch or grow
How sad that we have come this far
To barely reach or touch the bar.
We’ll bow our heads in feigned surprise
Since we have caused our own demise !
I hung my heart out on a limb
And prayed someone would reel me in
I searched for love the way one should
And wound up lost in some vast wood.
I tried my hand at show and tell
And that did not go quite so well
I decided right then and there
I’d had enough of grief to spare.
And so I bought myself a book
Turned out that I was this great cook,
Love’s not what it’s cracked up to be
Seems business was my destiny !
Seems I don’t know what will come next
I cannot read the hidden text
Some days I’m sure ’twill be my last
And others when the surge has passed.
I find it most confusing now
When shall I take my closing bow
It’s difficult to get a grip
There are no lessons, how to ship !
Well, God and me are on one page
Though surely not upon the stage
And when I make that final call
I’m ready for His curtain fall !
There are those days I can’t explain
Why sunshine makes me feel like rain
Or why a rainbow in the sky
Compels one to begin to cry
There’s so much good I’d like to share
If only there were some to care.
But I’m afraid those folks I knew
Have disappeared, all but a few
And fate has stolen every friend
Too long before their life should end
It seems there’s great conspiracy
To hasten world propriety.
We’re relics of another time
Another place, another clime
There’s no space left for us to fit
We’ll have to make the best of it
While stating this we must resign
It’s over now we’ve no more time !
I feel the power of the storm
It’s crying out, move on, move on
The wind it lashes through the trees
And carries off all of the leaves.
The rain in torrents pouring down
Reminds us that we all could drown
Oh what a fear that we must bear
Tomorrow’s sorrows, ours to share.
If we can make it past the night
And chance survive until daylight
Perhaps exists the hope that we
May live through this catastrophe !
We little know or can surmise
What fate will bring or life surprise
Each day begins with a clean slate
That offers chance upon its plate.
A new beginning one and all
The chips of life await the call
But who will win or who will lose
I do not know who gets to choose.
Enough to say I cannot bear
Too many times life is not fair !
Oh Lancelot, dear Lancelot, where is it you have gone
What lost and lonely metaphor may we depend upon
Oh Lancelot, kind Lancelot, please help to make me smile
I would love to be a maiden for just a little while
And when my life is over and my fate has been resolved
I’d rise above the madness with no mystery unsolved !
Love cannot be life’s everything
It’s faith and hope and blossoming
It’s dreams and plans and mystery
Our spring and fall, our destiny !
It is the total of the scene
On this huge stage that’s in-between
Our days of nascence and demise
That learn to live with compromise !
Here’s to the vets of every war
What was it they were fighting for
These valiant souls who fought and died
They stood alone or side by side,
For war is such an ugly thing
We’ve seen the sadness it can bring
The victor tastes both death and pain
While those who lose have fought in vain !
Now turn around and search about
There is some way to figure out
Chaos must end ere it’s too late
Or we will share the selfsame fate !
How sad it is for us to be
Hiding from life’s inequity
The question that’s been asked of me
Shall we survive the enemy ?
We surely know there will be cost
Our wisdom gone our valour lost
This tragedy which we maintain
Doth drown us all in grave disdain !
Evoking words we’ve heard before
Our future’s knocking on the door
Truth don’t you think that it’s too late
Barbarians are at the gate ?
I loved someone so long ago
He couldn’t stay, he had to go
There was another path to take
It mattered not what was at stake !
His rendezvous was preordained
It left no future to be gained
One can’t refute the final score
While knocking on heaven’s front door !
These are the dreams that we’ve forgot
They’ll linger long or tarry not
Because we are all that we’ve got
This is our goal, our life, our lot !
You shout that life is not complete
That all you try meets with defeat,
That everytime you stand up tall
Somebody pushes and you fall,
And yet whenever I have said,
“Please try again.” you shake your head
And vow tomorrow’s not the day
For you to find another way.
I wonder if you had the chance
You’d even take a second glance,
I think the problem’s not that fate
Has passed you by or come too late,
I’m now convinced that you don’t care
About the things we give and share.
It’s why you halt and will not see
You can’t accept that failure’s free.
What magic spell or mystic charm
That option earns for good or harm
Exists within this cloud of doubt
I’d rather pass and bide without?
This query waits alone and faint
With purpose hid and calm restraint
Each choice within the human font
There in the balance finds the want.
I’m lost, I can’t remember why,
What source of rule should here apply?
There dwells no vision in my mind,
No sense of meaning can I find.
One answer clear I fail to see
I seek not what my fate will be.
