Why should I wish that life’s a blast
When any hour could be its last
Why should I dream or try to share
When no one’s left to love or care ?
Why do I hope the time has come
When all our troubles are undone
Why am I sure we’ll all be fine
If we’d but follow God’s design ?
I’ve tried so hard for many years
To bolster courage, stem the tears
Reminding me day after day
That memories don’t fade away.
There’s no way left to heal the burn
When love’s been lost or not returned
Love lingers long and leaves a scar
That shadows one both near and far.
I thank You Lord, and understand
The beauty that is still at hand
It’s free to all that have no fear
And keeps Your Presence ever near !
Now I have dreamt so many scenes
And planned my share of happy dreams
I’ve had my fill of weepy tears
Mongst happenings of years and years
But overall God has been kind
And helped me leave my grief behind
I love You Lord, of this I’m sure
Whatever comes, I am secure !
Today I trudged along the road
While packing quite a bulky load
My spirit crushed by all the stress
My soul in pain, under duress.
I wish I knew what I should do
To help myself and see this through
At times I feel the battle’s lost
Since I can’t count the total cost
I’ll keep on trying to hold fast
This effort will not be my last
Since God and me are like a team
Let’s pray the outcome is a dream !
The air is fresh, it smells so sweet
I feel like dancing on my feet
But that’s a little premature
Since I’m unsteady, insecure.
I smile a lot, what should I do
Be grateful when each day is through
Hold on to dreams, we’re not yet done
Let’s pray there is lots more to come !
The legs won’t move, they seem possessed
And cause great pain with no redress
The body aches and labors so
It is an effort just to go.
With time all problems multipy
There is no way one can defy
The chronic ills that ageing brings
To life and limb and loads of things !
For so it is and it will be
We need the truth to set us free
What is the cost of liberty
If we are blind or will not see ?
One man he trod the road to peace
He prayed to God to grant release
And bowed his head unto the ground
Until some solace could be found.
He raised his eyes up to the sky
To see if heaven gave some reply
The wind blew hard, the rain it came
He cried aloud and called God’s name,
Forgive me Lord, for I’m not strong
One thing I ask, will I belong ?
While in the land of make believe
Where fallen dreams perhaps collide,
When all the plans that you conceive
In shadows dim do there abide
Just stand erect and truth receive
Or from your future choose to hide !
The world’s no longer black and white
Its color code is sheer delight
Ranging from dark to brightest light
With every tint from day to night !
There may be some eight billion souls
Whose values differ from their goals
While many playing other roles
Find life demanding greater tolls !
The leaves of life our stories tell
As all our days with living swell
Though events happen slow or fast
Some may be short while others last.
Each committment we guarantee
Does change our path or set us free
Times are troubled and full of woe
And with the seasons seem to grow,
There is no answer clear or sweet
That shouts aloud win or defeat !
There is a valley through which each must pass
Where all the minutes sift through God’s hour glass
The journey will be neither swift nor fast
As there is none to know how long twill last,
Make ready my soul, for the die’s been cast
This role that we play, both varied and vast !
Speak softly now, oh my sweet soul
And we shall make it to our goal
Let kindness be the guide we use
While arrogance must we refuse.
For who is there will bear the pain
Of impudence again, again
The folly of impatient fools
Will put to waste all proper rules.
Beware my dear we have small choice
Tis better far speak sotto voiced !
Sometimes I think when I’m abed
That I hear dancing o’er my head
Then I recall the years gone by
Aft my two feet had learned to fly.
I never thought that I was great
But dancing did my soul elate
Sometimes I stumbled, took a fall
Not in performance, not at all.
Yet there were times I’d miss a beat
Or needed to replace a cleat
I loved to dance, still wish I might
Too long ago, I lost that fight !
Tis long I’ve followed yon beckoning star
To seek I think what is the road too far
Since I’ve traveled long and I’ve traveled wide
And know the secrets that I need to hide,
Though all lessons taught were perfunctory
Yet each day held oh so much more to see
As the time wore on I’d begun to feel
What life’s all about is portrayed unreal !
The rain it falls upon the ground
With rivers rising all around
Tree branches laden bend and moan
The body aches and muscles groan.
Torrential rain makes hearing hard
As flooded steeets and muddy yard
Make navigation extra rough
And keeping dry a task quite tough.
What would we be without the rain
Perhaps some desert near Bahrain
Or great Gobi in China’s west
Let’s all agree to keep the best !
I know my life is not a dream
At times I simply want to scream
But God and I, we have a pact
There is no plan, it’s not exact.
So when my time seems overdue
And He decides that I am through
My usefulness on earth is done
For living is no longer fun.
When I accept that I’m bereft
And ashes are all I have left
Then is the time to close the book,
And with my heart take one last look !
I pray that I have left my doubts behind
Embracing all, accepting what I find
As life does rise and surge and constant wind
Throughout the channels of each fragile mind.
I love my life, the long and short
When I was young my heart was caught
Into a web fate spun for me
Out of the things I’d hoped to be.
The filament was light but strong
My wish was that I would belong
But sometimes dreams are overdue
And wishes cannot all come true,
Life teaches us accept the ploy
Learn to relax and then enjoy !
There is small consolation here
Among the bones all crushed and sere
The dead are much like ground-up dust
They cease to be as we all must.
There are some things I’d like to mend
While there’s still time left to defend
Without a drummer or a fife,
The broken pieces of my life
So I may rest before I’m done
To face God’s challenge soon to come.
Bright skies of blue with clouds of white
God’s perfect picture of delight
From azure blue to deep sea green
Painted waters lie in between
While flocks of birds fly overhead,
With sheer emotion left unsaid
True this must be a gift received
That’s far too grand to be believed
I have been to the top of the mountain to seek my destiny
I have walked through the valley of shadows to find my clarity
I have begged of the gods above me to silently hear my plea
There on the altar of justice I accept whatever must be !
I wish that I could stop the clocks
Or pause their bold tick-tock, tick-tocks
They tick away the hours we’ve got
And hasten what will be our lot.
That minute comes without delay
When we must face our exit day
Be strong because twill meet us all
Who knows if it be spring or fall.
Arrive it does be sure of that
Don’t pack a bag, you need no hat
There’s no rewinding anywhere
For tis the end of life’s affair !
I dare not teach you how to live
Or how much of yourself to give
I only know what I’ve been taught
That self respect cannot be bought.
To feel so good and love the Lord
To follow Him with one accord
Accept that He is always near
I’m not afraid for He is here !
The days we knew and loved the best
Have disappeared with all the rest
Where have they gone I do not know
They faded in the afterglow.
Oh would that we might try again
To reach out for remember when
But life moves on with no return
No refund or deposit earned !
The childhood dreams we tuck away
To wait upon a latter day
When life and time will both comply
Enables us to make a try !
While seeming lost a way was found
To keep our feet upon the ground
There learn to seek a worthy cause
That earns results and not applause !
The simple fact that we shall find
It does not help to act unkind,
And in the end as time runs out
There is no sense to cry or shout,
For who can hear the silent scream
Of one who lusted for a dream ?
I loved someone so long ago
He couldn’t stay, he had to go
There was another path to take
It mattered not what was at stake !
His rendezvous was preordained
It left no future to be gained
One can’t refute the final score
While knocking on heaven’s front door !
