The wind, it whips around the bend
How long before the winter’s end
The snow, the sleet, the icy road
That soon becomes a heavy load
But when the elements do flee
The spring arrives to comfort me.
I’d like to greet another day
With fragrant blossoms on the way
There is a line I can’t ignore
I’ve heard so many times before
If winter comes, it’s true you’ll find
That spring is never far behind !
The snow is clinging to the bough
The weather’s turning cold and how
The winter chill cuts to the bone
I think I’d rather stay at home.
I’d like to be inside for now
So I may keep warmed up somehow
And pick a spot close to the fire
Therein imagine sweet desire
Where in the end life does attest
Our souls do seek elusive rest !
The simplest pleasures that I will miss
Are an unexpected sticky kiss,
Tiny fingers pulling at my hair
And peek-a-boos meant for two to share.
There is so much joy small children bring
Into each day of just plain living
Their hopes and fears or their smiles and tears
Gifting our lives with surprise and cheers !
Seems that our lives are changing day by day
While fleeting years keep getting in the way
They appear to have a mission or two
Since we are pressed for time, what shall we do ?
As the days get shorter and time speeds by
Too much to remember, harder to try
All of our efforts will keep us awake
Along with those chances we often take.
There’s a point in time when we’ll have to halt
Please understand this, it won’t be our fault !
There is a song lives in my heart
I don’t know how it got its start
But I adore its every word
The sweetest sounds I’ve ever heard.
It fills my mind and brings me peace
And from life’s sadness grants release
It raises hopes where none survived
And helps laughter to be revived.
How wonderful the Lord loves all
Who stand in line to wait His call
He is the Master and the King
Son of the God of everything !
My dearest child where are you gone
What masquerade have you put on
Among the memories we’ve kept
Or midst the tears that we have wept ?
I’d like to know if God’s been good
And kept you safely as He could
For in your life you did no wrong
There seems no place you can’t belong.
My heart desires that you should know
Though you’re not here I miss you so !
We are the home of heroes, every color, every size
But who are those now making this effort to minimize ?
It’s been our own courageous patriots who’ve built this land
A place where citizens can work together hand in hand
This homeland where the people have the freedom and the choice
To fly the flag, sing the song, say the pledge or raise their voice !
There’s been so many friends along the way
That have gotten lost or have gone astray
While their faces blur and the names escape
Memories get caught in the charged landscape !
As the past rolls by and the time moves on
I will wait here like an old mastodon
In a silence that I would like to keep
Until I close my eyes in life’s last sleep !
How I hate war, oh Lord, how I hate war
What is the point, what’s it intended for
Where is the end, tell me what shall we do
How can we comprehend life’s carry through ?
I see those faces that once were unlined
But now to agony are thus confined
I hear the rasping sound of raling breath
The gasping halt that’s prone to preface death
Be gone this hate, the anger too, I say
Please Lord we beg of You show us the way !
It does seem odd that you and I
Are simply strangers passing by
We’ve spent our days upon God’s earth
Testing our values and their worth.
We’ve come this far to validate
The things we love and some we hate
Our time is brief and waning fast
Tis now each move may be our last.
Oh Lord we’re grateful that You’ve heard
And need the courage of Your word !
Live each day as if it were your last
Reminisce about those lifetimes past
And feel the warmth of love’s gentle kiss
Do not complain of the things you’ve missed.
Wish to all their impossible dream
Of unending love and joy supreme
Have trust in God follow in His way
Keep faith in your heart day after day !
Integrity is but a show
With many icons that we know
How sad too few ever get caught
With values they should have been taught
Why are we mute or silenced there
Have we no one to grieve or care ?
A crime, so many victimized
While efforts all are minimized
Our world is begging on its knees
Save us before all justice flees !
There is a dream most wish to see
Lasting throughout eternity
A chance to blend both heart and mind
As truth and fantasies unwind
A place of safety and great care
Where hopes and joys are ours to share !
The world today is lacking trust
We take our joys where e’er we must
The hours all seem to melt away
As do the weeks and everyday.
Time flies with wings so swift and fleet
As strangers stroll by on each street
With neither nod nor passing word
No single thought there to be heard.
This lonesome place within the mind
Where memories we’ve left behind
Too late do seek that compromise
Where all one’s dreams are realized !
I get so tired of all the pain
How I wish that I could start again
What I’d give to have a chance to be
Someone who lives in a world ache free
But that concept will not fly right now
I need learn to struggle through somehow
While faith in the Lord, a prayer or two
May part the clouds and help clear the view !
Observe the sky, today it’s gray
And changes colors day by day
But now is winter time and so
We can’t be sure what hues will show.
The golden glows of summertime
Do verge upon a scene sublime
I most prefer the plums and pinks
Especially as sundown sinks.
I wonder if the Lord can see
How glorious His sky must be
To all of us who looking up
Adore His overflowing cup ?
What is it that life offers all
The chance to shape what may befall
A hope to curb our every whim
Control those steps outside the rim
To spend our days pursueing peace
And from all powers find our release
For somehow time gets in the way
When love does steal the heart away !
Oh Santa Claus, dear Santa Claus
I’m writing to you just because
Christmas is coming round the bend
It’s time to share it with a friend
Though not so simple as it seems
As Christmas nears it fosters dreams.
It is a season to feel young
With Yuletide carols to be sung
It would be nice if we’d return
To days when candles would be burned
When children small were told the tales
Of magic sleighs that had no sails.
The reindeer were believed to fly
Across the reaches of the sky
But let’s pretend a moment more
That elves may work in Santa’s store
It’s true I’ve never seen an elf
Except ceramic on a shelf.
Well never mind, this too shall pass
Like Alice through her looking glass
Until next year, same time, same place
Anticipating your embrace
I pray I’m not too old by then
Forgetting our remember when !
ISN’T IT WONDERFUL TO SEE WITH THE HEART OF A CHILD ?
One lonely heart beats in this breast
Will I find joy in what comes next
Since any move that I chance make
Could mean to me just more heartache ?
I do not think that I shall last
If life does not small pleasures cast
The lonely path is not much fun
Tis better far to have someone !
The world is full of lonliness
With dark amidst the emptiness
The only light that still exists
Is that in which God’s love persists !
This world’s full of magic, I feel it every day
Truth, I wouldn’t change it for any other way
Along with all its beauty, courage and elan
Like the great white egret that wades amongst the swan.
Seems to me the angels are watching all the fun
Sharing laughs in heaven with almost everyone !
There is one joy I feel so keen
Sometimes I dream that I’m a queen
Or princess on some hero’s steed
Who came to aid me in my need.
Perhaps I could be Salome
Who charmed old Herod’s sense away
Or Juliet who gave her life
To be her Romeo’s young wife.
Well all in all, I want to say
I’m feeling somewhat sad today
For all the love it seems we’ve lost
To learn so late, how high the cost ?
There is this thought I entertain
From winter snow to springtime rain
The summer’s warmth, the leaves of fall
Sweet memories we all recall
They fill my heart, my brain implodes
With pleasures set to soon explode.
Oh how I wish that all could see
Our strength in great diversity
The young and old, the halt and lame
The large or small, we are the same !
Once was a war, the worst we’d had
With consequence both bad and sad
Most of our men who truly tried
Did all they could before they died !

I relish the thought that God loves me
And ponder o’er this quite carefully
I’ve come to the conclusion that He
Is the boss of all eternity !
I do love happy endings, yes I truly do
That is when our dreams really could be coming true
It is the time for joy and happiness replete
The stars begin to shine and all the world seems sweet
I like to work with others, help them feel the same
Try to be realistic, manipulate no game.
Sometimes we cannot help if dreams do go astray
We simply need to pause to cast our fears away
For God will still be there, He knows how much we care
He feels our deepest pain when no one’s left to share
He helps us to remember what life’s all about
Seeking our happy ending ere time should run out !
This gentle thought does make its way
Into the musings of each day
What is it that our God has seen
As He looks down upon earth’s scene
Can it be that our numbers grow
Who wait on Him to start His show ?
The early morning fog begins to clear
I hear each leaf’s staccato on the ear
The wind whips through the clutter at the curb
While seeming to declare, do not disturb
The hollowed silence of forgotten days
Now echoes through this empty canyoned maze !
