Love cannot be life’s everything
It’s faith and hope and blossoming
It’s dreams and plans and mystery
Our spring and fall, our destiny !
It is the total of the scene
On this huge stage that’s in-between
Our days of nascence and demise
That learn to live with compromise !
The wind has wings you cannot see
It gathers leaves from every tree
It shuttles snow across the sky
And corrals the spores that soon fly.
Each bird that rises on the wing
Will travel on its whispering
While seeds that have in season dried
Must speed to fine some niche to hide.
This is the way God’s process works
Part of His scheme and all the perks !
Today I feel completely free
I pray there are no strings on me
Where e’er I go, what e’er I do
To my own self I shall be true !
I’m sure that God is by my side
He knows the truth and if I lied
I have been blessed in many ways
He loves me and accepts my praise.
I thank our Lord with all my heart
My life is His right from the start !
I never cease to be amazed
By all the heroes we have raised
Both men and women young and old
The weak, the strong, the meek, the bold.
They come in every color known
And range from small to overgrown
What makes a hero who can say
But they were there to save the day.
They risked their lives to do a deed
To help another in dire need
God loves us all, good, bad or worst
Let’s hope our heroes will rank first !
I do my exercise each day
It helps to keep doldrums away
I speak with God all of the time
He never tires of my rhyme
At least I think He’s not upset
I haven’t had an answer yet !
Oh what I’d give to stand up straight
To learn to circumnavigate
To use my limbs as others do
To climb a stair or dance a few.
Oh what a joy that it would be
To take a walk around to see
This neighborhood where I reside
Instead of staying safe inside.
I’m tired of disability
And eager dream of being free !
I had a dream the other day
I dreamt the winter washed away
Oh what a joy and sweet surprise
There’s no more snow to greet the eyes !
Let’s on with rain and flowers bright
In colors that astound the sight
The bounty that the winter brings
Are vistas where God’s beauty sings !
There are loud footsteps in the street
The frantic sound of running feet
Where are they going ever fast
What am I missing as they pass ?
There is some music I can hear
Midst growing din, hurrah and cheer
I’m sure I hear the bagpipes play
Can it be so it’s Saint Pat’s Day ?
Oh what a joy that fact will bring
A few days more until the spring !
Tred softly friend the world is wide
One cannot know what dwells inside
In faith we all have tales to tell
There is no mystery or spell.
Each dawn awakes to a new day
We’ll beg the night to fade away
Let’s close our eyes pretend to be
A world in perfect harmony !
Aroma wafts up to my nose
It is the smell of oreos
I never thought I’d halt to think
About an odor, smell or stink !
But now I know that this is true
Please take a whiff I beg of you

I do remember very well
Tin soldiers and the tales they tell
So much of my own childhood play
Was spent imagining their day.
While soldiering was all the style
Accomplishments were well worthwhile
Real soldiers now make us take note
For soldiering can change the vote !
Most of our children have grown old
Served their nation with valor bold
The wars have come and slipt away
As mothers’ tears were in the way.
There is a lesson we need teach
The road to peace is in our reach
Tin soldiers are no longer seen
There’s Army, Navy and Marines !
Fantastic visions fill my head
As I lie here upon my bed
I feel as though I’m in between
The space that lives twixt wake and dream.
My visions are so truly clear
What e’er I see seems strangely near
My heart pales, I can’t catch my breath
What is it like so close to death ?
A simple sound defiles the air
And stills the gloom, be gone despair
I’ve things to do I can’t forget
This is too soon it’s not time yet !
A ballerina is so sweet
She dances on her magic feet
Her art intense her ache endures
For painful feet there are no cures
Perform she must that’s how it goes
It’s what she loves her twinkle toes !
We all owe her great empathy
She pirouettes much to our glee
Her graceful moves part of the dream
The jetes mark her dance supreme !
Open the door and come on in
God awaits all, forgiving sin
That day is coming very fast
Our problems have become so vast.
Where shall the hordes of fleeing go
To reach God’s arms before the woe
Keep calm and do not lose your place
He will remember every face !
Little children small and tall
Our dear Lord does love them all
Babies in their tiny beds
With pleasant dreams in their heads.
Laughing tots play in the park
Scooting home before the dark
How I wish that I could be
Much like them trusting and free !
There is a quilt upon my bed
With snippets of the life I’ve led
It’s made of patches bright and bold
And meant to save me from the cold.
This quilt has kept me warm for years
It’s shared my dreams, my hopes, my fears
And every piece of fabric sewn
Does have a story of its own !
Blind-stitched it is and all by me
Each patch contains a memory
My hands are old and gnarled a bit
Still they have shaped each square to fit.
I wish these rules would all apply
To life we know before we die
With needle, thread and sharpened shears
We’d patch the world and scrap our tears !
This road that I have chosen is lonely cold and dark
The path that I now follow is truly bare and stark
There’s no other option either here or on the way
Once the journey has begun the rule is you must stay.
It’s taken up too much time this is my foolish choice
Lord, I beg You walk with me I know You’ve heard my voice
I’ve made my share of errors I’m sure You’ve watched me fall
I ask for Your forgiveness I’ve been ashamed to call.
But that’s all over now I cannot change what is done
I simply need to finish this task I have begun !
I keep myself so busy
There is always work to do
Sometimes I feel so dizzy
That I take a break or two.
My life is full of meaning
And I pray it stays this way
With God to do the gleaning
There is faith in every day !
Life is always changing
It never stays the same
The rules keep mutating
It’s like a futile game.
We are growing older
But wiser every day
Bones are growing brittler
More fragile every way.
The story must soon end
It’s finish now quite clear
Come hold my hand dear friend
Let’s pray and have no fear !
I have seen the Magic Mountain
And embraced its snowy peaks
I have washed in Trevi’s Fountain
And have strolled her busy streets.
I have eaten in the Plaza
Where Bernadette met her Saint
And meandered through the vista
Where Monet did sit and paint.
I have been to London’s Tower
Where Anne Boleyn lost her head
And tred the hills of Gettysburg
Where fields are full of the dead.
I stood and watched the eastern sky
When the Challenger came down
And since that day I’ve wondered why
I still tremble with that sound.
But most of all I remember
Back when I was still a child
The seventh day of December
When all of the world went wild !
Somehow it seems along the way
I can’t say why we’ve gone astray
We’ve wandered far off of the road
And took on this excessive load
Who was it knew what this might be
A final act of heresy ?
Some were good men we know by name
Who tried to save us from this game
As others rushed headlong into
Lack of concern for what was true
They’ve lied and cheated on us all
And bear the blame for freedom’s fall !
The wings of war do sally round
While glory’s moment does astound
No one can know what heroes feel
Until they’ve tasted cold hard steel.
The battle doesn’t mean a thing
Unless you’ve felt the bullet’s sting
The weariness of fighting grows
It numbs the fingers and the toes.
The heart turns faint so full of fear
The end of life and time draws near !
You are the rain that gently falls
The summer breeze that softly calls
The robin high above the eaves
Playing I-see-you in the leaves.
The gull, the wren, the dove, the lark
All creatures moving in the dark
The water rushing rocks and rills
The wide expanse of fields and hills
This world that is Your vast domain
The gift You’ve promised will remain
You are the stars that shine above
You are the object of our love !
One fact I’ve learned
Respect is earned
The truth is just
And builds our trust
Deceit is cruel
And breaks the rule
A lie is worse
And brings a curse.
There is no honor in a war
That is not what the battle’s for
We fight to gain a victory
To bring us peace and set us free !
If I were a dinosaur
What is it that I would see
The world as it was before
In a place that used to be.
Dinosaurs lived long ago
When there was no one about
They roamed the earth to and fro
Free to screech and howl and shout !
They came in many sizes
Long and tall and short and fat
Ate each other, no surprises
I’m so glad I missed all that !
There must have been a reason
One that I cannot explain
Seems all died in one season
Never to be seen again !
I haven’t thought too much today
What my life will be tomorrow
I’ve no desire to find some way
Where moments beg, steal or borrow.
I have no dreams of afterlife
Or hope that soars to distant height
I search for peace absent of strife
A world bathed in God’s quiet light !
I thank You God for being there
You are my strength and loving care
In all the years that I have known
You have not failed, I’m not alone.
It is my wish to rest with You
After my life on earth is through
I know that there is room for me
I do not fear eternity !
