The fury rages overhead
Encouraging chaos instead
How long will their insanity
Assault this homeland of the free ?
The fury rages overhead
Encouraging chaos instead
How long will their insanity
Assault this homeland of the free ?
Oh to be the hero who lived to see the sun
Early in the morning after the battle’s won
Or to feel the wonder that follows in the morn
Now that all is quiet and hope can be reborn.
Sadly in the shadows, their voices silent now
Those who can’t return or will ever take their bow
Dreaming in a twilight that will not rise nor set
Those men that we’ll remember and cannot forget !
There is this call that I now hear
It happens every time each year
The bells peal out and my heart cries
Takes all my strength to face goodbyes !
There is no way I can convey
The sadness that I feel this day
So many wars for all those boys
Who early left their childhood toys
To wear that uniform each chose
Before their lives came to a close.
So be it blue or white or green
Brown, khaki, tan or in between
Whatever color works for you
They fought and died, red, white and blue !
THIS IN MEMORIAM 1776 – 2018
We have cried and cried
……….shed a million tears
For those boys that died
……….through all of the years
Now the war’s been won
……….but it makes no mind
While their battle’s done
……….there’s no peace to find !
Here we are again
……….on the edge of space
You remember when
……….we could save our face
Well that is no more
……….there is nothing left
None have kept the score
……….we are all bereft !
The wings of war do sally round
While glory’s moment does astound
No one can know what heroes feel
Until they’ve tasted cold hard steel.
The battle doesn’t mean a thing
Unless you’ve felt the bullet’s sting
The weariness of fighting grows
It numbs the fingers and the toes.
The heart turns faint so full of fear
The end of life and time draws near !
