My heart cries out, the pain intense
What life is this devoid of sense ?
Are we all mad or lost our mind
As time moves on what shall we find ?
Is peace a word we’ll disregard,
Which human traits shall we discard ?
I think we’ve had enough of this
The loss of faith and lack of bliss,
It’s time for us to lift our eyes
Ask God to speed mans just reprise !
I’ve thought a lot about romance
And pondered if a second chance
Might be of value at some stage
Who has the time at this ripe age ?
The faithful love that does endure
Is one which is both kind and sure
Within this sphere that we may share
The love of God for whom we care !
Children, children, they start out small
Quickly growing and getting tall
Children with vision in their eyes
They dream vistas great with surprise.
To find their way in all this joy
What is it that we must employ,
What kind of future will they see
As part of their own destiny ?
What glowing visions there would be
If dreaming were reality !
When as a child I was taught to pray
In a simple plain and childlike way
I said my prayers as small children do
With loving heart and a fear or two.
I searched for God nearly every day,
“Teach me the words that I ought to say”
And settled for just a chosen few
That ended with “you know I love you !”
I never argue with my fate
I don’t complain if someone’s late
For time is such a fragile gauge,
The role it plays upon the stage
Is cumbersome to say the least
Engendering the angry beast
Who rages out against the ways
That bind us up and steal our days.
But time appears to seek no end
It knows no hero nor a friend
And ticks away along our path
Through times of peace and times of wrath.
‘Tis foolish thinking that we can
Alter our lives to fit the plan
This cannot be for all our days
Would better be we mend our ways,
Accept that God’s role is sublime
As He’s the Author of all time.
When life’s journey is ending it’s a task too hard
And time to place your burden in the care of God
Praying for the help to lift the cumbersome load
Too much for one person on life’s ultimate road.
So raise your glass high in this last toast as you leave
Say your farewells with truth that we need to believe !
Each morning as I brush remains of sleep
From eyes that age with time and easy weep
About the path this life seems bound to keep
In our lost world that values truth too cheap
I pray the God of kindness heeds us soon
To save our simple souls from endless ruin
And bring us home again to life in tune
With virtues shared beneath His sun and moon.
The thought occurs since I have found
This other world that won’t be bound
By false ideals which have no weight
And judgements deemed obscure too late,
Pray life may draw hope through that door
With courage bold new goals explore.
All of my life I have been told
There is no cure for growing old
It’s just the sum of all we’ve known
Of words we’ve said and deeds we’ve sown.
Tis sad to think we leave this race
About the time we find our pace
Without some help we can’t be sure
And so my dear seems there’s no cure
Except wherein we bid goodbye
When we’ve been told ’tis time to die.
Wild elephants just trudge the way
To where their tusks and bones do lay
Since we are sage and civilized
Our resting place is canonized.
Do you know the story of Mary Hays McCauley nee Ludwig?  Born 1754, Trenton, NJ, more commonly known as “Molly Pitcher” the heroine of the Battle of Monmouth Courthouse June 28, 1778.  Last time I was there, more than 60 years ago, she was memorialized with a monument, a plaque and the famous cannon she manned when her husband fell !  In the “good old days”, children revered the brave deeds of those who”purchased” our freedom and rights as the youth of today idolize sports figures.  That June day was unusually hot, 100°F, it could be called the “World Series of Battles” as it included all the major players, all the stars of both TEAMS !  Washington, von Steuben, Marquis de Lafayette and Gen. Charles Lee ( who really struck OUT ) for the home team.  With Clinton and Cornwallis battling for the visitors !!  Americans, 12,000 men, British 11,000.  The cannon required water to cool down the barrel after each shot and a ramrod swab out !  Water girls were kept busy carrying water throughout each battle , most were wives.  Almost half of the casualties were due to heat stroke.  In 1822, Molly ( nickname for Mary ) was awarded a lifetime pension for her valor by the Pennsylvania assembly.  The victory at  Monmouth coming after the crossing at Trenton, ended the larger effort to win in the north and resulted in British retreat to the south, after their escape from Sandy Hook, New Jersey.  Molly Pitcher’s Well can still be visited !  How’s that for another homerun for our side ?  P.S. General Lee was court martialed as a coward, his “contract” was not renewed, but you guessed that !
This world’s in chaos, panic lurking everywhere
Compelled to seek an exit safe into somewhere
Seeking hospice for the mind and burdened souls
To find relief for those lost and forgotten goals.
Will there be a pause in time to heal broken rules
For us to learn to save ourselves from mindless fools?
The cure we lack is knowledge of our history
Not understanding what has been or what can be
And so we mask what won’t afford to be revealed
Hence none will query why the truth must be concealed,
Since in this endless questing for reality
We’ve lost the godlike purpose of our destiny.

I’ve found one truth in all I do
It makes no sense here without you
My hopes and fears don’t change it much
I miss your voice, your kindly touch
The pleasant joys we two have shared
The happy days we’ve known and cared
To some it is the gentle grace
The glow of peace upon one’s face
I miss your wisdom and your calm
It kept me free and safe from harm
It’s slipped away into the mist
And left me here alone, unkissed.

I’ve learned once more to understand
That life proceeds at best unplanned
Yet leaves us with this last pleasure
Times relived in silent leisure!
These memories that from our youth still cling
To values old that hope and trust will bring
Into this world since truth has lost its place
With no good choice to fill the empty space.
A valued thought by chance may come to mind
To help employ the wisdom we shall find
And question why our world has lost its way
Amid the toxins of the present day.
As men reject their past identity
In this sad world of such dishonesty
And leave us here to ponder why they do,
We lose our faith their words or deeds ring true!
Help me Lord, to understand life’s complexity
Teach me world, to use my mind with dexterity
Lead me faith, to courage tempered with tolerance,
Heal me time, with slow patience born of forbearance
Guide me truth, to wisdom laced with curiosity
Show me wonder, how to feel with deep intensity,
Guard me love, from anger displayed with impudence
Force me heart, to exhibit love shared with prudence.
The swiftly graying darkly coursing sky
Does play upon my fickle inner eye
And bares a mystery both stark and bold
That speaks to me of long lost dreams untold.
These dreams I thought had flown so far away.
Yet seeming near, had somehow lost their way.
Some fringed and faded shadows left behind
Shedding aged reflection as they unwind
What had once been I recognised anew
And purpose wrought with aim and course so true.
The passion in my heart that won’t decline
A hungry yearning that I can’t define
The dreaming in my mind that cannot fade
A hard decision that I have not made
The longing in my soul that will not wane
A quest for meaning that I’ve failed to gain.
And there among the past that wastes away
Find sad remains of yet another day
One unknown force that placed the founding stone
Has willed this legacy to us alone.
There in the night with truth possessed and sown
Who by their fruits at last shall they be known.
