The winds of change wax strong and bold
The will of man grows harsh and cold
The time seems near and will soon come
These challenges our senses numb !
Where shall we go, where will we hide
When all the darkness moves inside
I’d rather not be present then
Observing this downfall of men !
Whoever thought we’d see the day
When all our strengths were whisked away
This time of doom has been foretold
By men of wisdom ages old
We questioned their sagacity
Shall we sit by to wait and see ?
I took a walk the other day
The air it smelled so sweet
The wind it blew along the way
It rustled down the street.
I thought that God must truly be
So pleased with what He’s done
Midst mountain peaks with every tree
That grows under the sun.
Each sandy beach with ocean wave
That washes on the shore
Reminds us all how much He gave
How much there is in store !
Such foolish works my eyes do see
Included in our destiny
We’ll visit Mars and plant a flag
And capture air there in a bag.
We’ll send a rocket into space
Perhaps to seek another place
And all the while back here on Earth
Most human lives have little worth.
I find it hard to understand
The ruling class lives large and grand
When millions die or have no choice
Who speaks for them with honest voice ?
To those of you who read my stuff
I’ve no way to thank you enough
It makes me glad to think you care
It’s such a fragile world out there
So filled with loss and grief and pain
I will not come this way again !
Unless of course we have a change,
The present management is strange
I’d like to ask for their recall
Remembering I love you all !
Sweet Jesus smiled and took my heart
He gave my life a brand new start
There is no way I shall regret
The truth I’ve learned and won’t forget.
His patience lives forever here
He brings me joy and love and cheer
Each morn I wake and greet the day
I cannot wait my thanks to say !
For life is sweet, but sweeter still
Are dreams of hope time will fulfill
In God’s new world that’s yet to be
A world that brings eternity !
The trouble with us all I think
Is that we’re standing on the brink
Perched above precariously
Without knowledge of history.
Those stories that we have been told
Are simply that, just tales of old
Sometimes I find myself entranced
With mysticism so enhanced !
Oh how I wish that I’d been there
When Rapunzel let down her hair,
Or hiding in the robber’s cave
Where Ali Baba was a knave.
Now Cinderella had it hard
To clean that house and tend the yard
Or do you think Snow White had worse
With all those dwarfs and witch’s curse ?
Today I find the world’s not changed
Some tales I hear are quite deranged
The problem is we’re told they’re true
What do you think, it’s up to you ?
This tiny thought does grow and grow
When all is done where shall we go ?
This legacy I leave to you
Before my words and breath are through
It’s that you learn to live with joy
Treasure the tools that you employ
Give thanks for gifts that you receive
Above all else in God believe !
Sometimes I wish that I could be
A cardboard angel on the tree
That’s packed away when Christmas ends
Into a box with all her friends !
Thence sleep in peace until next year
To waken there without a fear
Of haloes bent or wings half torn
When we rejoice on Christmas morn !
This dream’s been my attempt to flee
A life filled with uncertainty !
There was a time in storyland
When castles were both large and grand
Where wizards ruled across the seas
And royalty lived as they pleased !
In storyland there is no pain
The dragons all have fought in vain
The heroes dress in white and gold
And children love the stories told !
I think I might have liked it there
While we all know that’s not quite fair
Though fantasy much pleasure gives
It’s there imagination lives !
There is no winner in defeat
That moment lost will not repeat
The air is chill the world is blind
What is it that one seeks to find ?
For strength and faith shall ever be
And like the wind will set us free !
Sometimes it seems thoughts tiptoe past
That fragile space where dreams are cast
And linger there in that dark spot
Till time beyond forget-me-not.
It is with wonder that I see
The mind’s acute complexity
What power above did give us breath
To see us through from birth to death ?
What would we learn if we could know
When life is done, where do we go ?
Sometimes the truth is hard to find
There is so much to rend us blind
How sad that most times we don’t see
That only truth can set us free !
Tis true I may be made of clay
I’m not descended from an ape
Nor am I here for just a day
There is for me but one escape !
This little word L – O – V – E
Is the true link twixt thee and me
It cannot die or fade away
And is the rule for every day !
Love is the weapon children choose
To tease and taunt and to amuse,
Sometimes the word rolls off one’s tongue
Where wishes, hopes and dreams are hung
To promise nothing more or less
Thus from its meaning does digress !
Our God’s all knowing great and true
And won’t be fooled what e’er we do !
How sad it is for us to be
Hiding from life’s inequity
The question that’s been asked of me
Shall we survive the enemy ?
We surely know there will be cost
Our wisdom gone our valour lost
This tragedy which we maintain
Doth drown us all in grave disdain !
Evoking words we’ve heard before
Our future’s knocking on the door
Truth don’t you think that it’s too late
Barbarians are at the gate ?
I simply refuse to allow
Your dark mood to overshadow
My bright and happy day for now !
I’ve traveled far and traveled wide
Through ancient town and countryside
Atop the hill, o’er valley stream
On mountainside or cottage scene !
This treasure wherewith we’ve been graced
Grand forests with their limbs enlaced
The sturdy vines that creep and hide
Encouraging the moss beside.
These are the sights that nature brings
Into our lives when beauty sings
Such a great wonder God has sown
Each minute seed that time has grown !
Perhaps it is because I’m old
That childhood glows like precious gold
Those days we thought had been forgot
Are part of each one’s Camelot !
Which role we play is our own choice
The option is weep or rejoice
We complicate decisions made
It’s what we do when plans are laid !
For each of us who would go back
What’s done is done we can’t redact
While we retrieve lost memory
There’s nothing that God does not see !
The mist that rises from the sea
That through the night envelops me
And curries favor with the winds
Consoles me as each day begins !
Tis true I was a child forlorn
Who to adversity was born
But took to courage with a will
To greet the world and ply my skill !
There is no task that is too small
No barrier I find too tall
No kindness lies outside my reach
My love of God’s beyond impeach !
What is it that men mean to say
Their words keep getting in the way
Feint tongues are stumbling o’er their teeth
Failing to state what’s underneath ?
Much easier to honest be
When will they learn that truth is free ?
When I was young with vision clear
My heart was bold I knew no fear,
But as I grew the world did change
The clouds above grew dark and strange !
Familiar things assumed new shapes
One’s sense of loss sought out escapes
What happened to the olden ways
Of peace and hope and love and praise ?
Tis soon the time to pay the price
Shall we just pray and toss the dice,
It seems we have no other choice
For who is left to raise a voice ?
We search around, what do we see
A world wrapt in fragility
This paradise with dreams delayed
Is where you’ll find courage displayed !
The knowledge that the years have taught
This history for which we’ve fought
To live our faith, bide by its word
And heed God’s call that we have heard !
Prepare to gird for grievous aim
Know in the end we shall acclaim
The strength of our great Lord above
Who feels our grief and sends His love !
If honor lies beyond one’s reach
What are the lessons we need teach
Which qualities should we demand
Of one who sits tall in command ?
How much or little should there be
Of sense and sensibility ?
And if we share the mighty seat
What can we do to void defeat ?
Both truth and courage come to mind
Where is the hero we need find ?
The oil no longer fills the lamp
The air without is stale and damp
The waiting world sits in the dark
For none can trade without the mark !
This earth now serves another god,
With numbers all even and odd,
How shall we greet the bridegroom now,
Where are the virgins to endow ?
With open mind and begging heart
I choose the path to God’s new start !
Winds of fate at the edge of space
Whisper sounds that are out of place
They signal all that we are lost
With none to count the total cost !
We need renew our faith again
Or find a path to where and when
This chore appears to be a task
Perhaps too much for us to ask!
My life has been a series of
Moments inspired by God and love
Pain and grief weigh-in second best
While peace and joy exceed the rest !
If I could wish one thing for you
To truly last your whole life through
It would be that you’ll find the one
Who’ll be your stars and moon and sun !
Lifetime partners with needs divers
Our God has shown us, verse by verse
This destiny designed for us
With Him it will be glorious !
There was a boy so long ago
Who roamed the hills near Jericho
He had great skill with stone and sling,
Who thought he would become the king ?
But God’s true wisdom knew the best
That David would survive the test
And while exiled, in caves he hid
Saul wished him dead, of course he did !
He stayed the course, he ran the race
And triumphed over his disgrace
A feeling man both wise and good
With frailties that God understood !
