Now that Santa has become quite “passe”
And is no longer hero of our day
What shall we do ’bout Thursday’s roast turkey
With all the trimmings we can wish to see ?
Another thought soon crosses o’er my mind
How will Charlie’s gang, that great pumpkin find ?
So many questions I have yet to ask
Seems my life has become an endless task !
There is a hole deep down inside
You try your darnedest to deny
It doesn’t matter where you hide
The emptiness just will not die !
With time one learns to get along
Because that’s what our Lord does teach
He fills our lives with love and song
And helps us to our fullness reach !
The autumn colors, what a sight
Ranging in shades from dark to light
Such joy the fall’s chill air does bring
That culminates in harvesting,
Like gourds and pumpkin on the vine
Great bales of hay all in a line,
The sheep whose wool is thickening
And will be sheared in early spring
Oh would that we must thank our God
Though times be plenteous or hard !
I thought perhaps you’d like to know
That God above does love you so
He doesn’t mind that you have flaws
And understands there may be cause
Speak out to Him and still your fears
Trust in Him for He is all ears.
There’s not a hair upon your head
A single word that you have said
Or any thought that’s in your heart
He hasn’t known right from the start
So carry on and do your best
Look to the Lord for all the rest !
The beauty of this nation that grows and flows and shows
From the heights of all its mountains o’er which our sun glows
To the depth of each valley and green of all the hills
That the heart may surely treasure as part of God’s thrills
Brings to us joyous pleasure with promises untold
Teaching simple lessons how life’s mysteries unfold !
The sky o’erhead is overcast
It’s great expanse is far too vast
We’ve elements for any taste
And all that air a shame to waste
Compared to when we are aground
Where lush hills circle all around.
There is no sound so sweet to hear
As cheeky birdsong on the ear
I’d like to think that when they sing
The bells in heaven start to ring
The angels echo their reply
They light the stars in darkened sky !
Cloistered here among all my things
The peaceful sound of morning rings
An early chill does charge the air
I waken to God’s loving care
The day breaks with another chance
To soothe my soul and life’s romance
And oh such joy to be awake
The difference one day can make !
Oh my dear child so full of glee
I wish that you would visit me
Perhaps we could have tea and cake
What kind of pastry shall I bake ?
It would be nice twixt me and thee
To share a special tea party
And if you’d like to bring a chum
I’m sure that we’ll have room and some !
I never thought that I would find
A place where I’d have peace of mind
Or learn to live beyond the race
That infiltrates life’s current pace.
It seems as though change is okay
To challenge us from day to day
The problem is we need to learn
That God helps us each in our turn !
Here from my window what do I spy
The clouds o’erhead as they float on by
Can it be the wind that makes them fly
Or our Engineer high in the sky ?
Do I gamble, be assured I do
As the dark o’erhead turns to sky blue
And my life like yours becomes the stake
With every moment that we’re awake
I do know how lucky we may get
And am grateful now to hedge that bet.
I speak with God, He is always there
I beg Him please, keep us safe in prayer
As we shall gamble our lives away
He leads us all to salvation day !
The air is still, no breeze at all
There is no sound, no lone bird call
The streets are silent, quiet, hushed
No barking dogs or frantic rush.
The silence permeates each room
Defining life’s tenacious gloom
Our God is there to keep the score
Controlling all win, lose or draw !
Sometimes I wonder all about the angels in the sky
Although I’ve never met a one, do you think they can fly ?
How do they fall asleep at night and do they ever snore
There is so much I’d like to know, oh, ever so much more !
Well, angels are God’s messengers and He has made each one
Although one third are fallen, all the rest have battles won
Perhaps some day I shall learn if God’s angels do have wings
Until then I keep busy with a zillion other things !
With all I’ve seen and all I know
Please help me Lord so I may choose
The path ahead, the way to go
The proper tools that I may use !
There is no fear since You are there
You’ve kept me strong a lifetime long
Each day I’m pleased to pray and share
And thanks to you now I belong !
The seasons end is drawing near
Before you notice winter’s here
And once again the snow will call
When autumn leaves no longer fall.
Now life is really much the same
For spring and summer start the game
Enjoy the view as colors fade
From bright sunlight to winter’s shade.
Sometimes it seems in life we lose
The power we had to pick or choose
Among those choices that exist
Believe our faith in God persists !
My heart does beat a happy song
It laughs and sings the whole day long
And keeps a smile upon my face
While I bask in His holy grace
I’m now convinced our lives will be
Bathed in the Lord’s divinity !
There is this whisper that I hear
Sometimes it rumbles in my ear
And slowly as I rise from sleep
Into my mind the words do creep
I’ve learned to listen to that voice
And o’er the years I’ve made my choice.
Each morn becomes another day
A fresh beginning in its way
How wonderful our God has been
To gift us with this chance to win !
There is a place that I hold dear
A time I feel my God is near
In early morn when I arise
And daylight slowly fills the skies
Tis then my senses start to feel
And waken to a world that ‘s real.
Oh what a joy each day does bring
As blessings soon start happening
I close my eyes and say a prayer
And have no fear for God is there
While those around are full of doubt
I beg You Lord, don’t count me out !
The world is wide, the oceans blue
The mountains high are fresh with dew
The forests tall grow thick with green
There’s rivers flowing in between
Across the meadows o’er the hill
The air is quiet, ever still
The beasts, the fowl, the nesting bird
Are all the sound that can be heard
Oh what I’d give to join the crew
And tarry there till life is through !
Now who am I to ask for more
As though I have not done before
A child of God with absent thought
That in life’s web I find I’m caught.
Please teach me how to humble be
And live with self humility
To find a place where I belong
That swells with peace and love and song !
The wind sings a song through the trees
With compliments from every breeze
The melody is ever sweet
Or loud and bold or indiscreet !
The echoes heard from faraway
Produce a sound both night and day
And carry on the drifting air
Such visions that we all may share.
And so it is as breezes blow
With wind or rain or sometimes snow
Grandeur’s gift that we’ve been given
From that office there in heaven !
I hear the leaves quiver in the breeze
As a sudden gust bursts through the trees
A ray of sunlight has filtered through
And day awakes to a life renewed !
Dear Lord in heaven hear our plea
Make clear our way to victory
Safeguard us on our lonely path
And save us from old Satan’s wrath.
With all our lives so full of awe
For deeds You’ve wrought and things we saw
There is no choice but to decide
We are with You till that last ride !
The days may come, the days may go
With not much progress here to show
One thought that does refuse to stay
And cannot wait to fly away
That each of us is on our own
As each shall reap what has been sown.
Remember God is on our side
In spite of fear or foolish pride
Make known to Him that love is sure
With all your strength reject impure
For in the end we’re left no choice
He rules us all heart, soul and voice !
I like to think that when I cry
The tears I shed whisper goodbye
To all the lost dreams I recall
And tragedies that did befall
For life’s composed of good and bad
Of days so sweet or ever sad
And thus we learn as we do grow
That what we reap is as we sow !
The bells are ringing, hear the sound
It’s Sunday morning all around
Another chance to speak with God
I have not ever found that hard !
In fact the total truth should be
It’s my sweetest activity
So I continue every day
From morn to night, a time to pray.
I know that God is always there
He rarely misses any prayer
Be not afraid, make it your quest
Just cross you heart, God knows the rest !
When I was young I used to pray
“Please help me Lord, show me the way ”
And then as I began to age
My life soon turned another page.
I spoke to God quite frequently
It seemed we shared true empathy
At least that is what I believed
And do not think I was deceived.
Now that I’m old I understand
Our God is always close at hand
He is our comfort and great friend
Remaining so until the end !
Oh little child where have you been
Are you now dreaming of the wind
And wondering just where it goes
Beyond your fingers and your toes
On this wild journey way up high
To meet its brothers in the sky ?
Is there some way for you to glide
Upon its currents for a ride
Perhaps to see the world below
God’s miracle of tell and show ?
