We are a generation praying peace will come
Meant for God’s entire world not only but for some
We are here dreaming miracles will light our way
With the arrival of each bright and newer day !
We are a generation praying peace will come
Meant for God’s entire world not only but for some
We are here dreaming miracles will light our way
With the arrival of each bright and newer day !
I hear the sounds of early morning now
Somewhere in the distance, a mooing cow
With traffic passing on a busy road
The whir of truck tires with their heavy load
The predawn mist that finds it’s meant to stay
On a day that seems dark and dullish grey
As the tides roll in they all crash ashore
Just to wash away what was here before !
The silence falls upon my ear
It seems to be all I can hear
Each sound reverberates with fear
The day of grace is inching near !
I’d like to think that freedom’s free
Available to all who see
This land of opportunity
I want to dream that freedom bides
Throughout this place and on all sides
Where tolerance and truth resides.
I must believe that faith is real
Not just an effort to conceal
Hypocrisy of what we feel
I need to trust God will be there
To see and hear our every prayer
And keep all in His loving care !
A little bird sat on the sill
He comes to visit me at will
I’m oh so glad that he stops by
He helps the lonely hours to fly
And sometimes when I’m extra sad
Reminds me of the joys I’ve had.
Once was when times were very young
And one by one our dreams were strung
Across the tethers of the heart
Love never got its break or start
Much like that little bird I see
Perhaps exists some chance for me !
I feel somehow a pending urge
As all my fears and passions merge
The path to seek a higher road
Henceforth to carry life’s great load
And find a place where each may rest
Before attempting life’s contest !
There is a joy that springs anew
Each day the holidays are due
And now that Christmastime is here
It is the best of all this year.
I love remembering the sound
Of blessed music all around
With songs and voices ringing out
And children singing hymns devout.
The love of God and all our kin
Are blessings we can revel in
May all the years that lay ahead
Have sugar plums dance in our head !
There is a dream most wish to see
Lasting throughout eternity
A chance to blend both heart and mind
As truth and fantasies unwind
A place of safety and great care
Where hopes and joys are ours to share !
Oh Santa Claus, dear Santa Claus
I’m writing to you just because
Christmas is coming round the bend
It’s time to share it with a friend
Though not so simple as it seems
As Christmas nears it fosters dreams.
It is a season to feel young
With Yuletide carols to be sung
It would be nice if we’d return
To days when candles would be burned
When children small were told the tales
Of magic sleighs that had no sails.
The reindeer were believed to fly
Across the reaches of the sky
But let’s pretend a moment more
That elves may work in Santa’s store
It’s true I’ve never seen an elf
Except ceramic on a shelf.
Well never mind, this too shall pass
Like Alice through her looking glass
Until next year, same time, same place
Anticipating your embrace
I pray I’m not too old by then
Forgetting our remember when !
ISN’T IT WONDERFUL TO SEE WITH THE HEART OF A CHILD ?
There is a place where I can see
This nation’s flag wave over me
The flag it flies with colors bright
It is an oh so wondrous sight
And promises this great surprise
To open every stranger’s eyes
Instilling confidence and pride
With love that wells up deep inside
Old Glory may she ever wave
And all our dreams, help us to save !
Oh daddy dear what can you say
To get me through this scary day
And help me face my wildest fears
With the vast wisdom of your years ?
What shall I do now I am grown
To find my way back to my home
With you not there to shelter me
From stress that life shares frequently ?
Oh daddy dear I miss you so
Too great a loss, why did you go
I pray we’ll meet again one day
In God’s sweet land of far away !
Love doesn’t die much like life, it just fades away
And withers in the darkness with each passing day
Many dreams lie wasted remembering the past
There within shadows that were never meant to last
And the world continues as if there were no end
Many will survive without lover or dear friend
God is always listening, try to understand
He is there waiting with a steady outstretched hand !
Oh little man, where have you gone
What costume is it you have on
Which role is this you’re playing now
While on life’s stage to take a bow ?
I’ve seen the many hats you wear
I’d like to help you get to there
Unless I know where that place is
I’m helpless cause I am no whiz !
Oh little man, when you are grown
And roots of dreams have been well sown
Please tell me what I need to do
To help you make your wish come true !
It seems to me this world is strange
From ocean’s edge to mountain range
With valleys lower than the sea
And plains as far as eyes can see.
A land of forests, hills with ruins
Lakes, rivers, streams and desert dunes
A coastline full of coves and bays
With swamps and marshes in a maze,
Mass spectacles of God’s delights
This place of dreams and hope incites
Such passion in her people here
They shall not dare to live in fear !
As dawn awakes across the land
The sun prepares for her grandstand
Her magic glory wiil be seen
As vision fit for king or queen.
The splendor of day’s beauty bright
Engenders an unending light
For who will know the value of
God’s benefits and selfless love ?
So many children do not play
So many dreams have gone astray
While many values have been trashed
Too many idols now are bashed.
We live in times too tough to bear
There seems no kindness left to share
Our world is dying bit by bit
And everyone is part of it.
Dark clouds are gathering above
Obscuring all our acts of love
Hold on, hold on, the die is cast
Let’s welcome the iconoclast !
There is so much that I need say
Before it’s time to go away
To indicate just how I feel
With passions that are strong and real.
At times I’m sure I cannot win
The odds are stacked ere I begin
Please help me Lord make dreams come true
Grant me the strength to follow you !
At times I find I’m in a bind
That life has been unfair, unkind
I’m hopeful as new days unwind
There is some justice left to find !
I miss the days of glory old
Where history and myth unfold
With repeat tales now long gone by
Of memories that did not die
When we were young and energized
And all our dreams seemed realised !
I often dream of many things
Like butterflies and fairy wings
Or cotton candy, oh so pink
The sunrise when it’s on the brink,
A baby’s laughter chiming in
My father’s face wrapped in a grin
Those yesterdays that we forget
New people that we haven’t met,
The brand new joys we mayhaps find
As all our destinies unwind !
Do feel the sun, its warmth is there
As is the scent upon the air
That flutters sweetly on the breeze
And waltzes lightly through the trees
Oh pleasures all, where have you gone
Where is this dream we’re counting on ?
Now I have lived quite a long time
In varied places and other clime
And learned that one must try to fit
Into each spot that’s part of it.
When but a child, the horse and cart
Is how our travel had its start
Next came the Ford all black and square
While in the rear its trunk was there.
Those skinny tires were truly sad
I cannot count the flats we had
Oh for those days that are long gone
Sweet memories my heart dwells on !
The shifting sands of life do blow
Across our vision wide and slow
And changes all the views we see
As we seek out God’s harmony.
The winds of time have come and gone
And left our dreams both pale and wan
Escape, escape, that cannot be
For none but death shall set us free !
Now I have dreamt a thousand dreams and cried a million tears
I’ve wandered lost a lifetime long and fought a hundred fears
I’ve counted stars on lonely nights and mended wounded hearts
I’ve learned to live in quiet peace and prayed for brand new starts
Tis time to thank the Lord above for all that I’ve received
I’m grateful that He cushioned me and never once deceived !
Sometimes the heart is more inclined
To seek respite and courage find
Among the days of lesser times
When this world bode in older climes.
For where we are, not where we’ve been,
Is caught in chance and grief and sin
There’s scant honor left, we may find
In all the hours to still unwind.
Oh blessed Lord, take care that we
Escape this time of infamy !
Sometimes there are those days that I
Wish I would grow two wings and fly
Then there are times I wish instead
That I could spend all day in bed.
I’m never sure which should come first
My quest for rest or traveler’s thirst
I guess I’ll settle for the dream
That I am more than what I seem.
I’m flesh and blood and caring heart
Awaiting God’s new world to start !
I’ve told you about my teddy bear
And all of the dreams we two did share
We’ve spoken of my Raggedy Ann
You know I was her favorite fan.
While my mom and dad who loved me so
Taught me my manners and how to show
Kindness and love to all that I greet
How to keep my faith and be discreet.
From my nana dear who was so wise
And my grandpop with those laughing eyes
I learned that life might be a great joy
If simple respect we would employ.
For whom in this world devoid of hope
Could manage to win or learn to cope
Without the aid of the God we know
And all the angels we’ve met below ?
Do you wonder what the morrow brings
Besides the tunes that each songbird sings
What would it be like without that song
Perhaps a place one shouldn’t belong ?
Some pleasant words or a grateful chat
We’d speak about either this or that
And turn away with a smile or two
While friendship’s shared between me and you.
Oh how I yearn for the days long gone
When friends were those you might count upon
Life used to be full of many dreams
But the magic’s gone or so it seems !
