Now I have trod ten thousand miles
Up hills and dales passed country stiles
I’ve climbed the steps to reach the sky
Both night and day as clouds rolled by.
I’ve dreamt the way that scholars do
Mindful of all that can be true
My heart and soul are caught in it
Somehow it all just seems to fit.
Let’s thank the Lord for His great gifts
As through our lives His beauty sifts !
This is my life with all its faults
The love of God my heart exhaults,
When I feel down and sort of rough
It’s faith in God that keeps me tough.
I’ve seen a lot and been through war
I’ve lived the pain right to the core
And wonder if the Lord does know
How very much I love Him so ?
The world we know is crass and cold
Its conversation brassed and bold
And leaves no kindness in its wake
Just policies that crash and break
With no thought for tomorrow’s child
Inheriting this place gone wild.
God help us all to find our peace
Before He grants each soul’s release !
My heart is heavy, laden down
As my whole world is turned around
My face is veiled and hidden by
Shadows of tears I cannot cry.
The silence of the night is there
To masque the cloak of fear I wear
Oh blessed Lord make my way light
Please help me get through one more night !
Today’s a day for reveries
Of love and tears and memories
Of sadness and reproach, it seems
Of fear and of aborted dreams.
I’ve lived a life so full of pain
And will not pass this way again
I wait here in the silence of
My lonliness and derth of love.
Dear Lord, protect me from myself
And place me on the “keepsafe” shelf
I know Your heart’s with every child
In manner kind, loving and mild !
Oh how I’ve dreamt that you and I
Would be together by and by
Somewhere upon an island near
Or in some place that’s free of fear.
We’d chat about our fav’rite things
Like love and care and angel wings
I miss your laugh and your bright smile
Though you’ve been gone a long, long while.
It’s been a road with ups and downs
Filled with wise men, some fools and clowns
I truly don’t know what to do
How shall I manage without you !
These are the days have been foretold
By sages in those times of old
When men were there to oversee
The rules of our society.
Then manners were a part of all
We thought or knew or did befall
Our faith in God was not denied
He is our Light, the Man Inside !
My wishes for a pleasant day
To you are wending fast their way
I hear the church bells as they sound
With joy and worship heaven bound.
For all who listen to my voice
Your time’s arrived to make a choice
Choose God and learn how to obey
To love your neighbor and to pray.
Be kind remembering the need
Of all God’s children and their seed
For all are meant to heed His Word
And cherish all that they have heard !
I’m looking through the window glass
Observing as my life rolls past
Still wondering where I have been
Or if I’ll pass this way again ?
How strange is life when one is young
And from the heart, love’s song is sung
The words still echo on my ear
They bring me calm and soothe my fear.
Be kind dear Lord, now that tis o’er
Too soon I’ll knock on Your front door !
As one reflects on former days
When life seemed grand with love ablaze
To ponder all the many schemes
That filled our lives and were our dreams.
How sad that most did fade away,
Forgotten plans of yesterday,
Yet left some here still dreaming on
That long lost isle of Avalon.
While tales were told to bring us hope
And teach us how to learn to cope
Since most of life’s inequities
Are issues that we must appease !
When you look around what do you see
Millions involved in dishonesty
A nation in chains by subterfuge
Victim of a scam that is so huge.
How sad that this is where we’ve wound up
Sipping tragedy from one cracked cup
We’ll do our best to escape the goons
Please God help save us all from buffoons !
I hear the whistle on the track
It seems to shout, come back, come back
But I have been this way before
Not once, but twice or maybe more
And cannot bear the lonesome sound
Of emptiness which I have found.
My bags are packed all set to go
I’m ready for another show
I do not have a backup plan
And may become an ” also ran ”
God with Your help, I’ll take a chance
Tis time to try to learn to dance !
One’s heart grows old and tired too
With oh, so many things to do
Before I reach the end of time
When life will be no longer mine.
I close the book and ask my God
Why life has been so very hard
What can I do to make amends
To family and to my friends ?
I’ve often thought the world we knew
Had little time to guide us through
We each are of small consequence
And leave to God our self defense !
The northern winds are blowing now
They’ve lobbied hard across the bow
And times are changing every day
As life is waning fast away.
When is it we’ll get straight again,
Begin once more to act like men
Preserve our values and defend
Our Constitution to the end ?
There is one thing I’m searching for
To be some place I’ve been before
And feel the warmth of your embrace
The peace of love upon your face.
It’s too late now there’s no time left
As I am here, alone, bereft
I’m sorry that it could not be
Life found an altered destiny !
This heart of mine cannot erase
The image of that gentle face
I’d noticed oft how kind you were
To passerby or some stranger.
The paths we trod as each grew old
Echo our values wise and bold
The Lord above shall judge us all
And we must answer to His call !
Slim fingers of the breaking dawn
Are shining through the window pane
While shadows signal early morn
And capture fractured light again.
How sad this world that has no chance
To teach their children how to fly
Or find some path to seek romance
Enticing all free hearts to try !
The days grow short, the night grows cold
The wind becomes increasing bold
There is a chill pervades the land
Before the grasp of winter’s hand.
Tis soon ere Mister Frost is here
Let’s reccommend a cup of cheer
To keep us all in spirits gay
And help us chase the cold away !
To live one’s life in humble ease
No anger or excitement, please
Accepting what life dishes out
O’ermounting any signs of doubt
Keep faith in all that you believe
And do your best to help achieve
That single goal you’re striving for,
To knock upon the Saviour’s door !
Dear Lord, when pain is so intense
I turn to you for my defense
And beg You please to hold my hand
To bring me peace and understand.
There is nought else that one may crave
But act the hero and be brave,
The answer comes from God above
Who’s good and kind and full of love !
I have never found myself depressed
Tis like facing the world half-dressed
I have never understood the term
But I suppose I will have to learn.
A foolish thought that I cannot shake
Oh days to come, please give me a break
I can’t imagine time that is lost
As an exception, what is the cost ?
I pledge today I shall do my best
To laugh and smile and pass every test
To keep my spirits pleasant and charmed
Present no reason to be alarmed!
I’m sure there is so much to say
To help us all save every day
With plans in place to find a way
To thank the Lord without delay !
Long time ago, I remember well
There was a tale the old timers tell
Of a man who rode this way one day
Just passing through not meaning to stay
When a shy young beauty he did see
A sweet image for his fantasy.
Well the story goes, they got on great
While the rest of it was left to fate
The two young folks seemed to fall in love
Quite like the wish each was dreaming of
Remember when love has a good start
Most times it pays to follow the heart !
The sky is blue without a cloud
Hear all the birds chirp out aloud
The air is fresh and clearly sweet
There are no strangers on the street,
A subtle breeze blows all around
The leaves are drifting to the ground
There is much beauty all may see
In nature’s great serenity !
Often our dreams get whisked away
Ere each one has a word to say
Too many wishes we have seen
That fall into the cracks between,
The saga of a life close to
Its pending end and what to do
We’ll find a spot to set aside
For this our last and final ride.
Our dreams and wishes are just that
A chance to wear another hat
But if you choose to praises sing,
Get set to catch the big brass ring !
This heart that beats here in my chest
Sometimes it needs to pause and rest
The problems that my life conveys
Oftimes puts me into a daze .
I wandered lost in distant lands
As time slipped through my trembling hands,
My voice it failed and shan’t be heard
No, not one single spoken word.
Perhaps with luck I’ll pass the test
And mayhaps time will heal the rest
Tis now to demonstrate the love
That my heart has been dreaming of !
The clouds overhead are dark and grim
The sky above now has grown dim
As evening shadows gently fall
The night moves in to cover all.
What happens when the world’s asleep
And images from corners creep
Across the room with purpose clear
To know a night without a fear ?
Attend the coming morn in shrouds
Lest dawn arrives bedecked in clouds
Let’s veil the fullness of our day
And chase all of our doubts away !
Oh precious Lamb, You are so sweet
This world is kneeling at Your feet
You are the world’s bright shining Star
All that we hope and dream You are.
The times we knew are fading fast
Have we the stamina to last,
What must we do to prove to You,
Praise God and honor all You do !
