Today is such a lovely day
So full of Spring in every way
My mind is clear, the air has bounce
I need embrace it every ounce !
The buds are blooming everywhere
Their fragrance permeates the air
Oh what a joy our God does bring
To each of us with newborn spring !
Praise God above for only He
Does have the power to set us free
In every storm He is the Port
That we must seek if we are caught.
Without His love we are remiss
His Word brings us eternal bliss
There is this path that does unwind
That only God can help us find !
There is this stairway that I know
I’m not quite sure where it does go
I only know that one day all
Must make that choice their final call
And exit with one thought in mind
It’s Paradise we hope to find !

To all the men we have adored
Our fathers, sons and blessed Lord
The uncles all who spared us space
And grandpapas that kissed each face
Who filled in for each missing dad
In every empty place we had.
This family of kindly men
Who came to bat, again, again
And never once did let us down
Changing to laughter every frown
Whoever dreamt that we might find
Some other men to be this kind
Hard to accept as truth maybe
Love’s more than just paternity !
The world we know has disappeared
With situations worse than feared
It seems they’ve taken the wrong track
Could be there is no turning back !
Tis not some foolish oversight
This didn’t happen overnight
Just part of changes yet to come
Discard the rest and alter some.
Oh Lord, be patient with this soul
That’s only ever had one goal
To try the best here to be true
To all that we have learned from you !
Oh goodness me, what do I see
An errant kite caught in the tree ?
What shall we do, too high to reach
How can we span this giant breach ?
When I was young I used to climb
These twisted branches all the time
Amazing that I never fell
Yet still have loads of tales to tell.
Though apple trees can’t grow too tall
In fact they seem to be quite small
The limbs all jumbled in a bunch
There’s scarcely room to nibble lunch
I’ll settle for just bread and cheese
Beneath the fragrant apple trees !
I acquired a friend quite recently
Who lives just across the room from me
Whereby my pillow I constant see
His acrobatic activity.
He lives in this house made of thick glass
He makes no noise and doesn’t harass
A more perfect mate one could not ask
Although his presence creates small task.
He requires a meal but once a day
Always remains clear out of my way
Daily the water starts to turn gray
Friday’s the day we flush dirt away.
I still have this friend at my address
I pray he moves soon so I can rest !
HIS NAME IS PHELPS, A BEETA FISH
This heart of mine it hungers so
Too much to say before we go
The words don’t come so easy now
Caught in the throat, sometimes somehow.
A simple act of nature’s need
Bids all who dare, take care indeed
The changes come and fall away
Too soon we’ll meet that fInal day !
I’m just so tired of all this pain
I shall never be alright again
Seems every joint has its own complaint
What an ugly picture time does paint !
I won’t give in, that is not my style
I’ve plowed through this with a glued-on smile
Guess I’ll start the process right away
Can’t afford to waste another day.
Forgive me Lord, I’ve forgotten how
To undo this pain and need help now !
Sometimes I think I’m lost in space
Or living in a foreign place
Well, certainly no spot I know
No matter where it is I go !
It’s up or down and all around
It’s in and out or underground
Chock full of people with no couth
Millenials and most our youth.
How sad to notice, worse to be
Midst all this incivility !
Too many words are left unsaid
And rattle round inside our head
Too many schemes have flown away
While ambitions went fast astray.
Where are the dreamers that we knew
With vision bold like me and you,
As peace and joy by love possessed
May fill our lives with hope and zest !
I’m only as strong as God allows me to be
And I’m only so wise when He needs me to see
I value those lessons that I’ve ever been taught
And treasure each of the dreams in which I’ve been caught.
I’ve tried quite hard to be at the top of my class
Only to learn there’s a good chance that I’m the last
I thank You dear Lord, You have remained here with me
I pray we’re together all through eternity !
I come to you just as I am
As peaceful as a baby lamb
My heart is true, full of His love
Which rains on me from up above.
Oh blessed Lord accept my plea
There is no place I’d rather be
No other wish that I desire
No other dreams set me afire.
I came to You, it is my choice
I bring my strength, my soul, my voice
For that is what You wish to see
That when I come, I shall be me !
In memory of
All those we loved
Who died that day
So far away
When after all
We still recall
The price they paid
For bringing aid
And peace to those
Who never chose
To start this war
Whatever for !
I’m trying hard to keep abreast
Of all the import of each test
I beg God’s help and am undone
There’s one last battle to be won
Grant me the power to climb the ropes
True to the dream, for I have hopes !
Memory is a powerful tool
Not governed by sets of standard rule
A list of items hidden away
To safely keep for another day,
The human mind, a knowledge beyond
May save the secrets of which we’re fond,
A shadow here or a whisper there
Moments in time we chose not to share
These are the treasures that we may find
When we have courage to speak our mind !
The candle burns, its flame is bright
Lord help us to survive the night
It is no matter what we know
Or where it is that we shall go
Perhaps we’ll never meet again
Or share once more remember when !
As I awake to morning’s sound
The dawn’s exploding all around
I hear bees hum and cats meow
The birds all sing while dogs bow-wow.
The noise of traffic fills the air
While beeping horns annoy and blare
The sidewalks soon begin to crowd
Street vendors hawking goods aloud.
Oh what delight each daylight brings,
A joyous heart that hums and sings,
Along with happiness and glee
Contributes to comradery !
The morning mist has melted away
Seems God’s sun has decided to stay
Looks like we’re in for a blessed day
With time to enjoy, give thanks and pray !
Oh how I wish that there might be
An angel watching over me
To keep my life safe from great harm
Or when I err, sound an alarm.
Perhaps an angel on standby
To comfort me if I should cry
Or if the night is extra bold,
Warm hands to shield me from the cold.
Perchance if I wish hard enough
The path ahead won’t be so rough,
Whatever help God offers me
I shall accept most gratefully !
A little bit of heaven’s scratching at the door
With sounds of adoration I cannot ignore
Each morning when I wake I sense the anxious plea
Tis not another creature seems so fond of me.
We come from different worlds, this I comprehend
But I’d be quite lost if he couldn’t be my friend
I want to thank You Lord, You sure knew what to do
Teaching all Your creatures to love the same as You !
It little matters what we say
Moment to moment, day to day
Our time is come, we can’t forget
As one by one, our hearts regret.
The past we’ve known, that it may be
Sweet echoes of eternity,
As sad farewell must turn away
Our hope that begs a new today !
We’ve seen the shadows on the wall
Heard echoes of the clarion’s call
The battle signals rang out clear
To fall at last on hollowed ear.
There’s no mistake upon the ground
Or impact of each magic sound
While trumpets blow and blare away
This message for the latter days
A change is coming, wait and see
To wing the way to victory !
There is this call that I now hear
It happens every time each year
The bells peal out and my heart cries
Takes all my strength to face goodbyes !
There is no way I can convey
The sadness that I feel this day
So many wars for all those boys
Who early left their childhood toys
To wear that uniform each chose
Before their lives came to a close.
So be it blue or white or green
Brown, khaki, tan or in between
Whatever color works for you
They fought and died, red, white and blue !

To love our God and country too
Those are the things I chose to do.
To furnish aid to those in need
Encourage others to succeed
Grant help to many who deserve
To earn a chance to give and serve.
It’s true our nation must be saved
If we are to escape this grave
Of shattered dreams, distorted facts,
Repeated crimes and heartless acts.
Please rescue us and keep us free
Lest we betray our destiny !
The smallest tot on Mommy’s knee
Now laughs and smiles each day with me
And through those hands plays “I can see”
While sharing love quite easily !
In the distant fields, row on row
Where all the stalwart poppies grow
God’s crimson plumes wave in the breeze
Their masses reaching to the trees
Across the hills and o’er the plains
With multitudes of mounting aims,
Who’s heard the call both loud and clear
And knows the day of judgement’s near ?
There is one thing I’ve learned before
There’s always room for just one more
It doesn’t matter where you’re from
Or of the distance you have come.
It’s of no consequence at all
If you are skinny, fat or tall
It matters not how old you are
Or if you are a rising star.
How wonderful that it would be
For all to share equality
Remembering that adage old
There’s always room for one more soul !
