I thank you Lord, day after day
Your word does guide me on my way
I’m sure that You refill my cup
And when I fall You pick me up.
You’ve been my Friend a long, long time
Since I could stand or walk or climb
I never would have made it through
Without the help I’ve had from You.
I promise You, dear Lord, today
Small matter what the world may say
There are no doubts about who’s Boss
In any game You win the toss !
I’ve often wondered why it’s so
That sadness follows where we go
And life is never thought complete
Without these stories of defeat
Or why we rally to the cause
Of infidels and unjust wars
And so the cycle carries on
When will all wars cease and be gone ?
We know super heroes are not real
Still they do possess this great appeal
To boys and girls either young or old
Loving the action both brash and bold.
Make-believe can be a lot of fun
Perhaps not a dish for everyone
Let’s make room for reality here
To help us keep pace through every year.
Pretend is not a part of the truth
With which one hopes to imbue our youth
Learning early who you really are
Is the surest way to light your star !
Oh Christopher, brave Christopher how did you spend your life
Across the seas and oceans wide amidst chaos and strife
You stumbled into a new world upon your wooden ship
What a surprise it was to learn this was no Asia trip !
And thus it was so long ago this land of ours was found
When the Spanish came to conquer and rule all on the ground
Now that is how it did begin in fourteen-ninety-two
Today we owe Columbus all our love and huge thank you !
I hear the echoes through the trees
Life’s shadows move with each new breeze
Old voices carry loud and clear
And fall upon the listening ear.
The book has closed the story ends
And bids farewell to all our friends
To leave one nothing more to say
Ere we are forced to look away.
But let us go in peace and calm
Believing one must do no harm
Remembering those days of yore
And all of paradise before !
Seems every morning sadness shows
Around the world the bad news flows
The madness strikes it grows and grows
From tippy-top to tiny-toes !
Each day I wake, I thank the Lord
Because I find I’m still onboard
I’m not too sure if that’s a gift,
Until life’s haze begins to lift
I check to see if I’m all there
My fingers, toes, my face and hair
Both arms and legs are working fine
On a ten scale, I’d guess I’m nine !
I’m not a fan of winter chill
A runny nose or feeling ill
Fact is I’d like to outlaw snow
In any place I choose to go.
But I don’t wish to be extreme
Or shatter others and their dream
Though I don’t ski, I know it’s fun
I have seen hundreds on a run.
Perhaps I’ll winter in the house
Snuggled up like a hearthside mouse
I pray that I’ll keep warm till spring
When sunshine smiles on everything !
The morning sun is on its way
To bring us all another day
A chance that God gives each of us
To join a cause more generous !
There’s no time left, we’ve lost our way
We cannot fail, not one more day
As angels in the clouds above
Extend to all unending love
Our Lord on high is waiting there
He feels our pain and hears our prayer
For there is nothing He won’t know
The world forgets, this is His show !
From the plains of Jericho to el Alamein
Men have been fighting wars, their freedom to sustain
These battles never end, each climax moves more near
But with God’s help we learn there’s little left to fear !
The world we knew, today becomes the “used to be”
To leave us with sensations of futility
Times change and fade into this generation lost
Where one can never learn what is the total cost
Farewell to dreamers, writers, artists and their kind
They have a need of safe environments to find !
Love doesn’t die much like life, it just fades away
And withers in the darkness with each passing day
Many dreams lie wasted remembering the past
There within shadows that were never meant to last
And the world continues as if there were no end
Many will survive without lover or dear friend
God is always listening, try to understand
He is there waiting with a steady outstretched hand !
In truth, we learn that life does fly
And soon we all must wave goodbye
We turn a corner, close a door
What is it all are waiting for ?
We cannot say, we do not know
Life’s mysteries won’t tell or show !
Blossoms in the garden, how shall we bear their loss
Soon the winds of autumn will all their petals toss
How often in past summers and the springtimes too
That flowers smiled and waved most of each daytime through.
All the fragile magic and all the fragrant smells
Folded in those tiny buds resting in their shells
What would this world look like without the shades of green
Plus God’s rainbow colors and everything between ?
The night outside is dark and cold
I am so tired and far too old
Oh how I wish that I could sleep
But we have promises to keep
For in this world of let’s pretend
A few may care but more must mend.
Take a deep breath for a short while
Lift up your spirit, try a smile
Remember that the Lord is there
Depend on Him, He’s just and fair !
I’d like to believe all of my prayers
Will be reviewed by His crew upstairs
I keep on talking an awful lot
Cause talk and truth are all that I’ve got.
Perhaps I’ll write a letter or two
Where shall I send it, I have no clue
Can I be sure that my every word
Will reach God’s ear or even be heard ?
I must continue trying each day
To speak my heart, remember to pray !
I am so glad the world’s not flat
We sure have had enough of that
And super heroes do not fly
We’ve put an end to that big lie.
Our noses will no longer spread
Spite of the fibs that we have said
We have been told so many things
Of spells and charms and magic rings.
The time has come to play it straight
And say a prayer we’re not too late
The truest hero we all know
Our Lord above, He loves us so !
I’m glad to say with no regret
That I’ve not met my Saviour yet
There still is time left to erase
Those hidden failures that I face.
Oh Lord, I try so hard each day
To follow closely in Your way
But I have faults as most folks do
And other quirks I need work through.
Well I’ll keep trying best I can
And with Your help may understand
That You will keep an eye on me
Helping to seek my destiny !
My thoughts return to years ago
To someone that I used to know
A someone who looks just like me
The person that I used to be.
I have survived the time between
Can you imagine all I’ve seen ?
Seems God and me, we have a pact
I’m training for the final act
He greets each as their turn is done
This Lord of our true Kingdom come!
The Lord can see right to the core
He knows what each is searching for
He follows as we wend our way
Through every moment of the day
I’d like to think He gave us choice
To opt for faith and raise our voice
In praise of those powers that be
Who’ll guide us to eternity !
I often wonder as I peer into the sky
Where do all the clouds go after they’re passing by
Do they have a mission or a schedule to keep
What happens up above when I am fast asleep ?
I try to stay alert and do not want to miss
A single moment’s joy of heaven full of bliss !
I wish, I wish that I could be
The candles on your birthday cake
The star upon your Christmas tree
Or mushrooms on your juicy steak.
I’d like to be your one true friend
A buddy who will understand
Or lifetime pal until the end
I would be there to help you stand.
Now friendship is a special treat
A precious gift that we may share
It softens many blows we meet
And gives us cause to smile and care !
It seems to me the world’s in need
So many symptoms we should heed
The weatherman is lately there
Warning folks that one must take care.
The wind, the rain, the lightning too
Are shouting that there’s much to do
In my long life I can’t recall
A year in which we’ve had it all.
Across the universe and space
Old Mother Nature’s in our face
We should mind all her huff and puff
While as for me, I’ve had enough !
Every day starts out the same
I’m getting tired of this game
I do believe I’d like some change
Although I think it could feel strange.
I’ve been a creature of routine
My life is calm, sweetly serene
And I don’t know if I’d survive
An increase in excess or drive.
Perhaps I’d better rethink this
And settle for my boring bliss !
I left my heart behind so long ago
On a sandy beach where it doesn’t snow
Where the wind is brash and the waves ride high
And the cliffs above try to reach the sky.
Now my heart still yearns for that touching sight
That I’ve dreamt about too many a night
In that foreign land far across the seas
Where our boys lie in graves beneath the trees.
I pray to God that we do not forget
War is the devil that we all have met !
I’ve this feeling I’m in a vise
And pretty sure it’s not my size
While this faint tightness in my chest
Accompanies all of the rest,
Speaks words to me I can’t ignore
What else is there life has in store ?
The time is now to make amends
Reach out to all including friends
Hold on to faith, remember God
For with His help, nothing is hard !
The world we know is in a spin
Look at the trouble we are in
We’ve lost our way and are off course
We need employ another source.
How shall we live, what can we do
We must now ask for help from You
Don’t leave us here it’s far too late
Disaster’s waiting at the gate.
Oh merciful and loving God
The road ahead is rough and hard
Desert us not we are distraught
Help us to live the way You’ve taught !
