Oh for the road not traveled along
And the memory of an old song
With a tune that cuts right to the core
And melodies of forgotten score,
Like a fragile view of times long past
With all of those things that could not last
On this lonely road exclusively
That leads one to an eternity !
Seems all that is left of the life I once knew
Are old photographs and a mem’ry or two !
There’s nothing left that one can say
About the sadness of this day
We wish that we could melt away
This hurtful pain that’s come our way.
Oft times our lives turn upside down
And can’t be saved with smile or frown
As these our hopes seem apt to drown
Some other action must be found !
My heart is wild, I know the tune
I hear the sound midnight or noon
It echoes sadly aft we start
Before life ends or lives must part !
Rage, rage against the breaking dawn
Rage, rage against the coming storm
And silent let the pressure swell
Unto the world our sadness tell,
This story of its own demise
That happens here before our eyes.
For what is there the heart must ask
To bring to us a greater task ?
Our Lord in heaven see and hear
The ending grows too close, too near !
I hear voices from the past now crying
Drowning my senses with their last sighing
Alas, for all about me are dying !
The snowflakes fluttered to the ground
And fell in soft peaks all around
The winter winds blew brash and bold
And shimmered in the midnight’s cold
The sting of frost left on my face
Like numbness of our last embrace.
When I was young and dreamt a bit
I thought my dreams could never fit
But now I’m old and understand
Sometimes fate deals a losing hand
And we must make another plan
To manage fear and start again !
There is a place that I recall
Where visions wake when twilights fall
It isn’t very far from here
In fact, in time it’s very near.
I like to visit now and then
Because I need remember when
The price is right, an hour of sleep
To transpose dreams my heart will keep
While I return to yesterday
Before our love wasted away.
The silence of the night is loud
There are no voices in the crowd
The hum of traffic silent now
And quiet rules the streets somehow.
But soon the dawn will bring the light
To once again renew the fight
I am so tired of all this mess
The burden’s heavy I confess !
Where’er I turn there is unrest
To north or south to east or west
One can’t find peace not anywhere
How shall we thrive in such despair ?
Sixty-five years ago today
My father died, he passed away
We did not know if we’d survive
How would we keep ourselves alive ?
It wasn’t easy I’ll tell you
But we were strong and made it through
It’s true to say that I’m the last
With memories of that sad past !
Such feelings one can never share
Perhaps you know if you’ve been there
So long ago it’s like a dream
That wakens with a silent scream !
He missed it all, the laughs and sighs
The joyous days, the sad goodbyes
How many times I’ve wished you here
My heart still aches for Daddy dear !
My heart seems caught on tethered wings
And shuns the song the siren sings
The wind that whistles through the trees
Echoes soft murmurs on the breeze !
This land I’ve loved for all my life
Is rife with anger, hate and strife
How did we lose our sanctity
What ghostly force have we set free ?
Is this the end of what we’ve known
And fruit of all man’s evil sown ?
Another day dawns full of light
To breach the stillness of the night
Under the clouds of starry sky
While angels weep and brave men cry.
Pray for silence of noise and din
Our worlds are suffering within
What words have I to offer you,
Oh Lord of all, this can’t be true !
What evil deeds are flung about
By those who claim to be devout
If this is life for fellow man
There’s no escape, no other plan !
The darkest days that will obscure
Those times in life we feel secure,
And overshadow happiness
To leave in place some deep distress
While never understanding why
Some choose these passions to apply !
Tis sad to know this can be true
And comes between both me and you
To leave behind a tragic rift
That is to none a helpful gift,
But rather claims unhealthy cause
Engendering eternal wars !
How sad it is to bid goodbye
To close the door and wonder why
The past is never far behind
It lingers long upon the mind
And carries on its tethered wings
The burden of forgotten things.
I thought with time I might forget
Those moments bearing deep regret
To be so sorry for the day
I should have said don’t go away,
But you are gone and time will tell
We had no chance to say farewell !
Somewhere it was a long time ago
I gave my heart away
When did that occur I do not know
It feels like yesterday.
I have never found another love
I’m sure I never will
My life is yours like the stars above
I’ll ever love you still !
Sometimes I wish that I could fly
Above the sadness that I spy
Into the safety of the sea
To swim with mermaids and live free .
Across the world I’d sail inside
A fairy ship that travels wide
On ocean waves while sea nymphs sing
And bid me smile remembering .
