Now this has been a journey long
From birth to death, one’s telltale song
As we have been upon life’s road
Each burdened by our heavy load.
It matters not what we have thought
There in this net all have been caught
And so it is that we shall be
A cog in God’s eternity !
I can’t foretell the story of what each life may hold
Because all are different, some timid, some are bold
We’re sure throughout the years that truth is bound to unfold
Pray we’ll accept this message before we are too old !
I know the price, I’ve played the game
We are no two born quite the same
Except for twins identical
Though that’s not always typical
For God has made each one of us
A member of His own chorus.
With heart and soul we try to sing
Both words and tune remembering
That in the end the difference
Is oh, so small and makes no sense
For we are His, spirit and mind
All shapes and sizes you can find !
When we were young we learned to share
Those early years taught one to care
For lives sometimes can be quite brief
Each bears some semblance to a leaf
That’s born upon the family tree
And tethered there for all to see.
While some may shrivel and grow sere
Still others flee from life severe
As those who cling to that last hope
Within the darkness try to grope
The time is soon, the need is clear
Take hold your roots and face your fear !
Come see the sun peep o’er the hill
And watch its glow spread farther still
As all the mellow blends away
To melt into each brand new day.
It’s grand to know that God is there
And that He hears the smallest prayer
Which whispered softly on the breeze
Reverberates worldwide with ease !
Love is a word I use a lot
For without love what have I got,
A lonely world all to myself
I’d be there wasting on some shelf.
I’d rather be a loving soul
Than searching for an empty goal
Whatever joy that life may bear
It’s so much greater when we share !
I see God’s colors clearly, crisp blue of winter sky
The umber of the dried leaves as they go flashing by
Cool gray of all the clouds as they circumvent up high
And in the sleeping gardens, dull green of plants that die.
The colors are quite somber, I wish they were alive
Suppose I’ll have to wait for the springtime to arrive
I can barely bide the time till the brightness will revive
As I make this silent wish that I shall be alive !
A ray of sun breaks through the cloud
My heart cries out and sings aloud
One stolen thought now rears its head
All will be gone when I am dead.
At times I’m lost, deep in a trance
And searching for another glance
To prove that life will still advance
To some safe place one takes a stance
I’m wishing that this may enhance
The chances of our last romance !
There is a bird still sings to me
From way up high in God’s great tree
He sings so sweetly in the air
Sometimes I wish he weren’t there
Because he makes me think that I
Would follow him if I could fly
While birds were born to fly and sing
Both you and I wear God’s clipped wings !
This life is mine, from my God a gift
With a book of rules, I’m set adrift
And I must learn long before I die
Which rules I shall observe or defy.
Our God is kind, loving and giving
He requires prayer to earn forgiving
For in the end when there’s no strength left
Who is there to blame for our life’s theft ?
We own the clock in this human race
But none knows where is the other place
So I’ll wait in line with all the rest
To say my prayers and to give my best !
Your happy dreams are always there
You simply need to know just where
The searching can be half the fun
Even when being done by one
True happiness comes from the heart
It only needs a smile to start.
Remember when it rains all day
The plumpest worms come out to play
Thus birds and chicks all gather round
And chirp a song with joyous sound
Reminding us no matter what
Our memories are all we’ve got !
I can remember days long gone
When we had trails to hike upon
That wound through forests clad in green
Up wooded hillsides by a stream
Along the bend where moss rose grew,
Look up you’ll catch a patch of blue.
Hundreds of trees of every size
Parade before your very eyes
Oh such a sight it was to see
What I would give once more to be
Alive upon those mountainsides
Where bits of God’s true wealth resides !
Love cannot be life’s everything
It’s faith and hope and blossoming
It’s dreams and plans and mystery
Our spring and fall, our destiny !
It is the total of the scene
On this huge stage that’s in-between
Our days of nascence and demise
That learn to live with compromise !
Life is a giant mystery
All twists and turns, no victory
A winding path that’s gone astray
And often seems it’s lost its way.
It prowls the street when darkness falls
And answers when each morning calls
It spins itself into the winds
To where all life again begins !
I spied a nest there in a tree
It seemed to be a mystery
What migrant pair did flee so fast
To travel cross this land so vast ?
The winter came and stayed awhile
Denying us sun’s warmth and smile
The limbs were bare the wind blew hard
And skirted through each empty yard.
I felt a chill and thought a bit
Of all the creatures born in it
Just how they struggled to survive
And with God’s help most stayed alive !
There is a question piques my mind
While caution should some value find
For in our hearts where truth still rings
One cannot fly with broken wings !
The terror of the night draws near
Keep still my heart it may not hear
A drama that each life endured
While hour to hour we are inured.
The smallest sound becomes a threat
We have not found our solace yet
Elusive peace where have you gone
Into the land that lies beyond ?
Say can you tell me what is there
Or will you guess how I shall fare
It matters not for who can know
What lies beyond each new shadow ?
For all the gifts You’ve given me
My heart will ever grateful be
Much thanks for joys You’ve brought to me
It is all there, the world may see !
I’ll not complain when troubles call
For there are days the rain must fall
I’ll rise above the misty pall
To whisper thanks to God et al.
Sometimes I waken with a fright
And pray I make it through the night
The morning brings its sweet delight
Wings bearing hope now in my sight !
The sun doth rise the day begins
Who makes the choice of loss and wins
The battle wages on it seems
And opts between nightmares or dreams.
The air is clear it makes no sound
A world of silence circles round
How still it is with bated breath
One listens for the knell of death,
It enters like a nighttime thief
And brings to some welcome relief !
I’d like to think that we were friends
But that’s not where the story ends
We shared great times along the way
The path was straight, we did not stray.
When we were young each fell in love
What was it we were dreaming of
Our hearts were true and pure somehow
But things are not so simple now !
That golden hair has turned to white
With little will left here to fight
Mementos that we meant to keep
Got lost in some discarded heap,
The times long gone of used to be
Our friendship found eternity !
I hear the hands upon the clock
They tick away, tick-tock, tick-tock
The minutes and the seconds pass
So quickly there beyond the glass !
The days and hours do swiftly fly
While in our lives time passes by
I cannot recognize the sound
As human clocks spin round and round !
I’m not quite sure this is okay
How shall we make it through each day ?
In the hours before the breaking of dawn
The time when stars take a moment to yawn
Just before the sun rises o’er the hill
The leaves in the trees are ever so still.
It’s the quiet that sighs passing us by
Leaving us wishing we knew how to fly
The clouds in the sky seem to beckon me
Calling my name just as though I were free.
My freedom has strings you know what that means
The one place to fly is left in my dreams !
While most dreams of forgotten youth weigh heavy now
Lost illusions and troubled times did crease the brow
As thought gave birth across the miles to freedoms wings
There bides the chance one could expect last happenings.
Another time, another place, another way
Perhaps to offer us one more redeeming stay
And celebrate the fact that we are yet alive
Despite the varied odds of life we did survive
Oh Lord, we thank Thee for one final escapade
Ere we embark upon God’s holy esplanade !
The dark angel has passed me by
One cannot guess how glad am I
I’ve been upon this path before
And grateful now he’s skipped my door.
I am not ready yet to die
There is much left that I must ply
Perhaps he’ll understand my plight
Convinced I’m not too weak to fight.
Of course he’ll try another day
And know when I can’t longer stay
But when that time arrives at last
I’ll pack my dreams and exit fast !
The wind moves quickly through the trees
Loose missiles sailing on the breeze
Branches bristling flush with their leaves
Some landing there upon the eaves
Some flying swiftly to the ground
Others blowing turn round and round.
Like fugitives in some mad race
Each seeking their own resting place
Gusts increasing now growing bold
Like vestiges of legends old
That leave to us our final quest
We must survive old Natures best.
Winter wind your chill voice calls
I hear the echoes through the halls
They wail and blow and heave and sigh
What will be autumns short reply ?
This season new bursts on the scene
Assuring us much to be gleaned,
Spine tingling cold and freezing rain
Historic storms without restrain.
Undaunted now I cannot wait
As day and night participate
The wind blows wild as snowflakes fall
Soon ice and snow will bury all !
There’s never time to do the things you’ve always wanted to
Lifes journey seems to just run on until its turn is through.
As prayers are meant to ease the pain for most not only you
So dreams can’t be confined to nights, the days must also do.
While hope springs forth in many ways to help your wish come true
It takes awhile to grow a smile and have a laugh or two.
