Not long ago in this same place
The last time that I saw her face,
Today’s the day that I recall
The darkness of death’s knell did fall.
How sad that we shall never greet
Or hug and kiss when e’er we meet
I am so sorry that you’ve gone
We’ll catchup soon, it won’t be long !
I see the mist of morning glide
Across the window pane outside
It’s frosty glaze has slipt away
To seek another hideaway
Her tiny pellets drift about
They look to scout some other route
I wonder what each journey finds
As through our lives the raindrops wind !
The wind comes rustlng through the trees
And whistles wildly mongst the breeze
It echoes up and down the streets
Embracing everyone it meets
The cool night air is muscling in
Tis time to take it on the chin
The Ides of March will soon be here
Lets try to keep our options clear
The winter wind must fade away
Before the spring will come to play !
There is a spot close in between
The here and now and what has been
We take our place, we fall in line
And thank our stars we turn out fine
A tumble down, a caution there
A humble thought, an anxious prayer
I love you Lord, I always will
Until my heart at last is still !
Oh little one all meek and mild
My dearest, sweetest tiny child
With wonderment and joy and grace
You light the world round your dear face !
I’ll try my love, remember well
In times to come our story tell
And pray the Lord will gracious be
To guide us through eternity !
Now here I am, just washed ashore
My spirit shaken, body sore
With life a wreck and purpose blind
What future is there I shall find ?
The path I follow seems so dark
I do not spy the smallest spark
And need your comfort, if you please
I come to you on bended knees !
Well here I am alone at last
Safe from the winter’s stormy blast
A child of God too soon grown old
Who took the path not paved of gold
And followed Him along His ways
Until the ending of all days
And now I wait to learn the score
Has it been worth the waiting for ?
My heart is full, my dreams are worn
The days grow short, the nights forlorn
How much longer must we await
As God decides departure dates ?
Sometimes the world seems quite enraged
While I am far from full engaged
With all the trappings we require
To feed our hearts smallest desire.
What’s happened to old fashioned ways
Like the joy of unfettered days
Help me please to stay on the track
I need some one to watch my back !
There are times when I think of the past
And all of my dreams that failed to last
I recall quite well what used to be
When life held moments of ecstasy
And a precious love faithful and true
Along with that which was called virtue,
And I ask of myself what comes next
There’s no hope left for some grand pretext !
I’d like to think that freedom’s free
Available to all who see
This land of opportunity
I want to dream that freedom bides
Throughout this place and on all sides
Where tolerance and truth resides.
I must believe that faith is real
Not just an effort to conceal
Hypocrisy of what we feel
I need to trust God will be there
To see and hear our every prayer
And keep all in His loving care !
I’d like to think this world we know
Was full of sweetness years ago
To tell the truth, I’m not so sure
This place was kind or love so pure ?
But here am I waiting in line
I pray dear God I’ll turn out fine
And all those wishes that I’ve had
Well most of them won’t be so bad !
I’m waiting for the waning light
To join the nothings of the night
As quiet settles over me
Increasing life’s tranquility
The silence hovers still and stark
How comforting I find the dark !
The beauty of this world so much beyond compare
The joy of God’s magnificence we’re meant to share,
The pleasure to be seen by all of those who care
Remembering His love it always will be there !
A little bird sat on the sill
He comes to visit me at will
I’m oh so glad that he stops by
He helps the lonely hours to fly
And sometimes when I’m extra sad
Reminds me of the joys I’ve had.
Once was when times were very young
And one by one our dreams were strung
Across the tethers of the heart
Love never got its break or start
Much like that little bird I see
Perhaps exists some chance for me !
This land is mine, for you and me
With mountains high from sea to sea
Her waterfalls and rivers wide
High fields above, deep caves inside
Border to border, edge to edge
Yosemite to Pikes Peak’s ledge !
This vision of our nation’s health
Or beauty of her splendor’s wealth
Is ours, the gift of God above
That teaches us the proof of love
While we in turn are thankful for
His benefits that lie in store !
AMEN !
Well here I am alone at last
Safe from the power of times long past
Wherein my search I’ve tried my best
To comprehend what is the quest.
The answer softly doth resound
With all the love that each has found
And thus it is we seek respite
While gentle speaks the last goodnight !
My life’s reduced to little things
Like pleasant sounds of pigeon’s wings
The fluttering of window blinds
When misty rain and wind combines,
A fog that clouds my every thought
And questions all that I’ve been taught.
Seems nothing’s left to salve my heart
Before my journey gets a start !
As we age there’s much greater fears
Sometimes our days begin with tears
Not from the aches we used to know
When we were fresh and game to go
Teardrops may fall with passing time
Searching for the end of our climb
Ask fates that be to tell us why
At this late stage it’s norm to cry
The growing process is too real
While we await God’s final deal !
There is a place beyond our dreams
Where life is peaceful so it seems
But nature never is at rest
It struggles long to keep abreast
We cannot claim we do not know
It follows all where ere we go.
The world itself can make no change
Without man’s aid to rearrange
The complications that we see
Placed there by inhumanity !
There is one joy each day may bring
Your choice to laugh or dance and sing
To smile, enjoy or to correct
Some error made or to expect
Perhaps a chance to walk with God
And tread the path our forebears trod.
To share a bit of helping hand
Pick up the pieces or expand
Then comprehend the value of
Undaunted courage laced with love
A time to aid when there is need
Or teach another to succeed !
A child is but the whisper of
The troth between a man and maid
And proof of their eternal love
Created with God’s help and aid !
The thoughts that gather round my brain
I struggle hard to keep contained
Because I wish to use the best
To help me try to ace God’s test.
I see how this world writhes in pain
Without some effort, there’s no gain
If God inspires our every act
Perhaps we’ll learn to honor fact !
This earth is full of mirth and joy
That visits every girl and boy
Who’ve known about the treasures of
Our Lord’s unfettered vows of love.
We are His children who’ve been taught
To follow in the path He’s wrought
He won’t desert or leave us cold
We are included in His fold !
The love I knew when I was small
With hugs and squeezes by the score
That was the best that I recall
Along with being kissed galore !
I never thought that as I grew
All those moments would stay with me
And add to all the joys I knew
To be my favorite memory.
It’s long ago, the times now past
I wonder where the years have flown
I’ve never found a love to last
Or one that I could call my own !
Oh how I wish our dreams might be
Converted to reality
Then we could ask for something more
And bring an end to ugly war.
There’s so much work we need to do
To help this fantasy come true
But first comes faith and our intent
With love of peace that’s honest meant !
There is a place that waits for each
So very far beyond our reach
This special place no cause impeach
Where heaven’s sky meets God’s great beach !
There is great joy that words may bring
Words that can cause one’s heart to sing
Sweet words that need remembering
Like peace and calm and happening.
Those gifts conceived that cannot wait
Like ice cream cake on lacy plate
Or breakfasts that begin at eight
With maple pancakes tasting great.
Christmas stockings filled to the brim
When all our blessings are from Him
A helpful thought, a kindly deed
An effort sought for those in need !
