I wonder if the angels weep
For those who have no place to sleep
Or cry for those who writhe in pain
With nothing left to lose or gain ?
Can it be so that we are meant
To never know where honor went
Or why our lives are meaningless
With naught to rise to our defense ?
My heart is sad it wants to smile
I’m tired of the fractious guile
I beg the Lord open our eyes
That we may greet a new sunrise !
The raindrops trickle down the pane
To leave a wet and foggy stain
Upon the windows of my room
That sometimes seem so full of gloom !
I glance around this world we know
And tremble as the terrors grow
What shall we do when we awake
How can we halt the coming quake ?
It’s sad that we have failed our friends
There’s no way left to make amends
And through the windows of my mind
There’s no solution I can find !
My heart seems caught on tethered wings
And shuns the song the siren sings
The wind that whistles through the trees
Echoes soft murmurs on the breeze !
This land I’ve loved for all my life
Is rife with anger, hate and strife
How did we lose our sanctity
What ghostly force have we set free ?
Is this the end of what we’ve known
And fruit of all man’s evil sown ?
What madness here that I can see
With strength that overpowers me
And grows intense as days go by
To watch our freedoms fade and die ?
Where is the world that I once knew
Its courage strong, it’s values true
While shadows fall upon the thieves
And on the streets the poplace grieves ?
This country that we love so much
Suffers greatly from Midas’ touch
When will this deity be gone
Have we the time to wait that long ?
I do recall when I was young
How proud we were and prayers we sung
To thank the Lord up in the sky
While watching that bright banner fly !
We pledged our trust to God and man
Assuring all with voice and hand
We will not fail or fall behind
Our actions would be just and kind !
And so it was these many years
We have survived through trials and tears
Seems now that we have reached an end
Our flag reviled and without friend !
These prayers are for those sad of heart
With grief for they who sudden part
Each hero’s death too high a cost
Who guides their way among our lost ?
While heroes live in memory
Such memories are never free
Their price is great who knows how much
What tears we shed or hearts we touch ?
When will this sacrifice be done
How long before the battle’s won
Ask God, please help our treasures save
How many more must greet the grave ?
I felt the rain come rushing down
So hard it forced my tears to drown
And wash away to have no place
Here in my hollow lonely space !
The tears are old, the rain was new
Reliving days when we were two
Together on life’s crowded road
A hectic pace with heavy load !
Sometimes the things we don’t control
Perhaps deserve a lesser role
Since we are blinded by the past,
Know that some loves can never last !
Such disappointments we have found
Before our feet can hit the ground
The lesson is you cannot win
No matter who may let you in,
I find it strange that no one cares
Who gives or takes, or hoards or shares !
How sad that we are overcome
By tales of greed and waste by some
Our nation weeps we are so lost
There is no way to count the cost
Our dignity has been disgraced
And standards need be replaced !
There are these stories I have read
Remaining here within my head
These tales speak of so many things
Like lions, dragons, frogs and kings,
A prince who lost his throne and crown
Another was that lonely clown !
I wonder what will follow next
Who’s left to pen enchanted text,
I think the age has come and gone
No words now to depend upon,
This simple fact I’d like to know
When truth is gone what’s left to show ?
In this house beside the road along the waters edge
I chose to make my final home vowing this my pledge
How could I know time would show the weakness of my dream
Though we may plan for lifetimes there is another scheme
When nature vows she’ll have her way there’s no chance to win.
The violent gales did blow and sway, trees came crashing in,
That ugly storm had a name that I recall, Eileen
It happened so long ago and now appears obscene.
Since that day I’ve learned one thing I never will forget
You cannot build futures without moments of regret.
There is so much love and there’s so much hate
It occurs to me that the hour grows late
And the world grows cold in its need of haste
As we ignore how much it’s laying waste
To our hopes, our joys and moderate ways,
With not one thought to the ending of days
We’ll seek answers there in the mystic deep
Because in our dreams even dragons sleep !
While chiding thus I know my will
To live and have my life fair full
Man cannot reach the world beyond
Until he’s served his turn here on
And serving still that he may know
What fortune be before he’ll go
To sup upon Olymphia’s heights
And dwell amidst Elysian nights
So be it that untutored man
Shall feast among the days of Pan
There frolic in Calypsos glow
When God alone shall deem it so
Light be the reach of the heavens as I strive to touch some eternal place
Let me find the quarters of the gods let me bask in the warmth of their fates
Let me dream of their nectar a sacred ambrosia with delicate taste
Give me leave to pursue the immortal and gaze on their heavenly gates.
Permit me to stroll in their pastures free with hope to entwine in their grace
What I seek is sought after with peace in my heart and a smile on my face.
Life has been far more than full may its cup abound forever in this state
Of pleasure and laughter I need ought more than an occasional taste
To sustain the desire for living in this simple gracious human race,
Thus having dwelt among the gods let me return to outer mortal space
And so resign myself to that one fact which either cannot change nor pace
That life as it exists is for the living there’s not one small bit to waste.
Ah that I might fly with the wings of freedom into the light of the sun
Nevermore to return again to the deepest dark of the realm unknown
To fly as with the fleetest wings of an angel untethered and unstrung
Swiftly straight as the line of an arrow with its purpose as deadly clung.
Mild be the wind that wafts me to the end my journey thus over and done
Let there be none to feel the loss or question why once after I’ve begun
Be it done in the silent midst of their slumber far long before their sun
Rises in the shadowed sky to awake the ungodly din which could come
Soon in the wake of my dangerous flight as all regrets and hopes are flung
To the nymphs of the heavens above in the thunder of their cries belong
The tears of the ungodly and the damned the pittance of their grief now gone
To serve another master and seek another world whence to dwell upon.
First time out is a lifetime dream
Second time an audacious scheme
To cope with fears that you may fail
Just breathe deeply and then exhale
Forget all mishaps that you’ve heard
Think only of inspired word
Be honest in all that you do
Helpful and kind loyal and true
Pray for the chance to help succeed
Sure that you’ll accomplish the deed
Bringing you such joy in advance
When you’ve earned sweet victory’s dance.
I’d like to tell you how things were when I was but a child
The values that were taught to us in lessons bold yet mild
Where honesty and fairness and true courage was the way
To learn to love each other and show kindness every day .
Somehow we’ve lost that purpose we can’t seem to get it back
We find ourselves defeated and subjected to attack.
I feel sad for little ones living in this hostile clime
Will they survive tomorrow or through out the rest of time ?
It’s a lonely kind of story in which they have been caught
To never find the glory in the rules that they’ve been taught
It’s a hapless sort of reason that just may see the end
Of a world in its last season unless it learns to bend.
You shout that life is not complete
That all you try meets with defeat,
That everytime you stand up tall
Somebody pushes and you fall,
And yet whenever I have said,
“Please try again.” you shake your head
And vow tomorrow’s not the day
For you to find another way.
I wonder if you had the chance
You’d even take a second glance,
I think the problem’s not that fate
Has passed you by or come too late,
I’m now convinced that you don’t care
About the things we give and share.
It’s why you halt and will not see
You can’t accept that failure’s free.
