Once was, I wished that I had wings
So I could fly, discover things
Right now I need to find a way
To help me get through day by day.
Just how it happens, I don’t know
I can’t decide, where do we go ?
I’m sure the Lord is always there
I am convinced that I’m prepared !
I seek His strength to follow through
And do the best that I can do,
The impetus of my whole life
Is love of God not sin or strife !
Before my eyes the changes grow
And this old world I used to know
Is disappointing, one by one
We’ve lost our values, life’s undone.
I cannot recognize this place
Sometimes I think I’m lost in space
While all about folks speak in tongues
Like Babel, we have climbed the rungs.
Oh would that we might congregate
And from our sins chance separate
Entreat the Father of us all
To grant us grace ere we shall fall !
The winds of change surge cross the land
To spread their message where they can
They purge the very air we breathe
With time they may the pain relieve !
Sometimes I hear the echoes of
Old days that were consumed with love
When hearts were young and lacked the fears
That follow through life’s troubled years.
Why is it love can’t remain long
Why is it weak or seldom strong
There is a need for all to know
What does one do to make love glow ?
With ready smile and gladdened hand
We’ve wandered into friendship land
Let’s turn your frown into a grin
We need your heart to let us in !
There are so many ways to say
Good Morning World, have a great day
Remember always to be kind
Never leave good manners behind.
Too often we are quite remiss
And bid farewell without a kiss
Or slam a door on the way out
With hurried gesture or a shout !
Please stop and think before you go
What kind of love is it you show
Can it be like care God gives you
Unselfish, fair both just and true ?
I’m guessing this is not the case
There are issues need be embraced
Solutions we are praying for
With caring hearts and open door !
I wonder what to look for next
Will it be twitter, tweet or text
Or all the rallies in the streets
With slogans that the crowd repeats
Reminding me of scenes I’ve seen
From Planet of the Apes on screen.
What future will be left for us
If we escape this wild circus
I think that I begin to see
This is the new reality !
In some dark corner I know not where
Awaits a time of our deep despair
A time to tremble or runaway
While praying this action may delay
The ultimate end that will befall
Causing our earth’s vast ceiling to fall !
I can’t imagine that this will be
But our world’s steeped in hypocrisy
Do you think there really is a chance
For man’s nature to change and advance ?
I certainly hope that this can be
I don’t want ceilings falling on me !
I wonder if the angels weep
For those who have no place to sleep
Or cry for those who writhe in pain
With nothing left to lose or gain ?
Can it be so that we are meant
To never know where honor went
Or why our lives are meaningless
With naught to rise to our defense ?
My heart is sad it wants to smile
I’m tired of the fractious guile
I beg the Lord open our eyes
That we may greet a new sunrise !
Do you remember times gone by
When stardust sprinkled evening sky
And silence was a welcome friend
Who visited at each day’s end ?
When words were meant to carry us
Into the twilight’s quiet hush
With thoughts of what is yet to come
To comfort all and solace some ?
This simple task, a wistful one
Recalls how quickly life is done
While all we’ve known does go astray
Soon to become our yesterday !
I loved someone so long ago
He couldn’t stay, he had to go
There was another path to take
It mattered not what was at stake !
His rendezvous was preordained
It left no future to be gained
One can’t refute the final score
While knocking on heaven’s front door !
The sunshine sneaks into my room
Replacing night time’s eerie gloom
The photos hung upon the wall
Do happy days and times recall.
Familiar faces one by one
Remind me of past summer’s fun
Those thoughts so full of magic sights
And warm and sunny days and nights !
I wish somehow we could return
To memories for which we yearn
But it’s too late for turning back
That train left on another track !
I do recall when I was young
How proud we were and prayers we sung
To thank the Lord up in the sky
While watching that bright banner fly !
We pledged our trust to God and man
Assuring all with voice and hand
We will not fail or fall behind
Our actions would be just and kind !
And so it was these many years
We have survived through trials and tears
Seems now that we have reached an end
Our flag reviled and without friend !
Listen closely and you will hear
Wind whispering into your ear
Its breathy voice echoing clear
Wake up, wake up the summer’s near !
Of all the times we do recall
We laughed and hugged and had it all
The world seemed like a better place
Day started with a happy face !
Can you remember how we cried
When trouble came or someone died,
Life had a value way back when
What changed it all so quickly then ?
Has it occurred to you to find
That we are facing life’s decline
Where dreams belong to yesterday,
Hopes come and go and fade away ?
The tender thoughts that filled our mind
Those years ago have waxed unkind
And selfish seems to be the word
Describing acts both seen and heard.
What brought us to this hapless end
Where we are forced here to defend
Our love of God, our pride of land
Our self respect, our helping hand ?
How easily snow can disguise
The ugliness before our eyes
And change the bleak facade of day
Into God’s wonderous display !
The winter winds blow fierce and wild
The branches heaped the snow is piled
The air is brisk and cold and chill
It numbs the mind and bends the will.
Oh winter wind of strong repute
Tower of strength one can’t dispute
For God to you has power given
To freeze the very air of heav’n.
We beg you now to use your gift
To help us heal and change and lift.
Too soon autumn’s child will appear
There in the fog he’ll disappear
Clad only in the fruits of fall
In orange, red, tan, rust and all
Colors lively shouting my name
Inviting me to join their game.
The air so clean it halts my breath
Speak not of season’s coming death
As flying leaves come tumbling down
To rest at last upon the ground.
There’s time still left to spar and play
We’ll make the best of each today
Before the chill of winter’s drive,
Too soon the snow and sleet arrive.
Wishing cannot alter conditions
But praying changes attitudes and
Attitudes can affect our behavior
Radically ! So for God’s sake
And yours, PRAY !!
( my Nana taught me that prayer changes things )
As I waken the words just fill my head
I write them down as fast as they are said
The rhyme is simple and the words ring true
Simply cannot stop till the thought is through.
Don’t know if this process will ever cease
I’ve prayed hard to find a kind of release
To begin my day with another act
Like some worthy cause or related fact.
I know the summer’s gone to rest
I feel the sun upon my chest
I am a part of natures race
I feel her breeze upon my face.
The gushing dawn assails my eye
My heart so full I want to cry
While tiny creatures rush around
My ears are blessed with mornings sound.
It’s strange to see leaves downward drift
These roustabouts my spirits lift
The dreams we’ve lost may chance survive
Because we’ve learned how to revive.
I hear the wind brush through my hair
The smell of fall now fills the air
With each crisp gust my spirits fly
As moments rise and heave and sigh.
I sense the chill that’s not yet there
I shall partake of this worlds share
My spirits grow so full of cheer
I laugh because God’s love is here !
The thought occurs since I have found
This other world that won’t be bound
By false ideals which have no weight
And judgements deemed obscure too late,
Pray life may draw hope through that door
With courage bold new goals explore.
Wistful windows that long for strangers in the night,
Restless dreams lust to capture fantasy in flight,
Illusion contriving all rank of rebellion
And prowling, seeks other pastures hither and yon.
Restful spaces in which the heart can love again
Belong not just to imagery, vivid or plain,
When leaving love behind, one closes many doors
Breaching other vistas fair caprice explores.
To keep a steady grasp on sensibility
Frequently becomes a friendless calamity,
There are spans when fears rise, increase and terrify
And striving as we might, all judgement nullify,
Direction appears elusively to transit,
Then to find ourselves lost and in our grief expand it.
The gentle soul with sacrifice that seems insane,
The loving heart that begs consistency in vain,
Take heed, those apertures yawn widely in and out
We may overcome them, if we can conquer doubt.
Thus do not cry, venture bids one to try once more
And seeking, find that life and love, as was before.
Forsake thoughts that abide with mock serenity,
Visions of affairs that end in obscenity,
And travel in the realm of never-ending hope,
Of all the lessons taught, the best, learn how to cope.
Do you hear the falling rain
Splashing on the window pane
Pelting down in steady beat
Muddy junction where they meet,
Earth and water, lake and sand,
Awesome plight, begging command?
Have you felt a day so bare
Graying sky and whining air,
Bending boughs groaning distress,
Swaying trees blend with the rest?
Not a structure stands aloof
“ Pitter-patter,” cries the roof,
Eave and peak pleading complaint,
Rocky walls bulge with restraint,
Rivers rising where they fall
Protruding ledges cover all
Cringing creatures, great or least
Strangely silent, bird and beast.
Observe the stark windblown trees
Squirrels darting neath their leaves
Their endless chatter ceasing
With nature’s wrath increasing.
A strength and power display
Nothing secret in the way
These bold torrents need unload
Earth and gravel in the road,
Rushing paths fast pursuing
Shallow roots, loss ensuing,
Surging on now fast then slow,
Mid the turmoil as they flow,
Rivlets running to the sea
These lifeless remnants carry.
Have you known a day so bleak
Taking toll, the mild and meek?
Like the tempest of the mind
Fate attacks the just and kind,
Simple creatures fail the test,
Leaving judgement to the rest.
