To all my friends across the miles
You must believe my dearest wish
To one day see all of your smiles
And possibly to share a kiss.
Now since that act can never be
Perhaps you all may grant me this
Accept the thanks from me to thee
Please know you fill my life with bliss !
Oh Santa Claus, dear Santa Claus, what is it that you seek
A fireplace, a warm embrace and a floor that does not creak
A rocking chair just waiting there to help you rest your feet
One glass of milk to help wash down those cookies that you’ll eat ?
A child once in a manger lay
His bedding made of straw and hay
And as He lay there sound asleep
We knew the promise He would keep.
The life He lived was shortened by
The truth that He knew He must die
In doing so he gave to us
A glimpse of days too glorious,
The dream of all that we may share
With beauty of God’s love and care !
One thing I’ve learned and must never forget
That here in my path is a challenge yet
There is too much to see and much to do
Before my turn here on this earth is through !
There is a road that leads somewhere
But I don’t know if I’ll get there
Its pathway is so long and bleak
Yet will it hold the aim I seek ?
I cannot find a moment’s rest
Seems life is just one endless quest
As on and on this weary trail
I struggle but to no avail !
I’ve heard large dragons are not real
They do not fly nor do they squeal
And if you think that I am wrong
Please come with me and ride along
We’ll travel to some nearby place
Where dragons take up too much space !
The only fantasies I’ve found
Are lies that persons spread around
With evil deeds that evil does
To damage all the good that was,
I must believe God’ s now in charge
Of all things small and all things large !
A finer lad I’ve never seen
With nose quite straight and brain so keen
One tall boy with a manner sweet
All dressed and pressed and rather neat.
His smile lights up the dreary room
His laugh disposes doom and gloom
I love to listen to his chat
He knows so much of this and that.
A nice young man, his mother’s boy
And daddy’s handsome pride and joy !
One cannot know just how I feel
About a war that was so real
There is no way I will forget
All those sad days that haunt me yet
And sometimes when I’m in sleep land
The visions seem too close at hand.
I pray to God we’ll never know
The ugliness that from wars flow
Quite often when I’m at my ease
I beg of God, end all wars please !
Oh my dearest love what shall I do
To make sure that I am there for you
I’d like to think that you would rely
On my best efforts to get you by
In spite of my fallibility
I promise you, you can count on me !
At times I am reminded of
Those days now gone we all did love
When God and man true partners were
Aligned against old Lucifer.
Seems he has gained the upper hand
And trashed all that we thought was grand
Our honor and integrity
The truths we knew and liberty.
Well, God’s on call and standing by
And I can’t wait till angels fly !
The sun is bright, the sky is clear
Oh what a lovely day, my dear
Just see the birds perched high up there
Intent upon some feast to share.
The squirrel in his winter coat
Now plays midst leaves too wet to float
The seasons come, the seasons go
Tis all a part of God’s great show !
I wish that you and I could be
Best friends through all eternity
But if that seems too long a time
I’ll settle for just this lifetime !
What is it I’d like to receive
In my stocking on Christmas Eve ?
Hands full of love to last a year
Tears of joy and holiday cheer
Sprinkles of laughter, smiles galore
Keys to the latch of Heaven’s door !
My heart is full of Yuletide dreams
I’m not quite sure what it all means
This year is ending soon it seems
And I’m caught up in winter scenes.
There is a quiver in the trees
My faith endures, my soul perceives
It whispers soft into the breeze
Thank you dear Lord, my world believes !
Now I’ve sailed on many waters wide
And trudged up many a mountainside
I’ve stood my ground for a long, long time
And did my best to preserve our clime.
I lived through those wars now gone away
Like memories of lost yesterday,
For who can know what was done before
As we stand here at God’s final door
I wonder now what we each shall find
Beynond that door as our days unwind ?
We found ourselves in wilderness
Two thousand years ago
And knew the road to our success
Did need God’s love to grow !
I’m grateful God is always there
For without Him whom else would care
There’s so much sadness everywhere
At times it seems too hard to bear !
And so it is with joy we sing
God blessing life and everything
This wonderous gift that we have found
That keeps our feet upon the ground
And helps us rise above our pain
To share our love and try again,
Enjoy our hope and dreams restore
Tomorrow waits our faith galore !
Today is gray it’s dark and cold
The winds that blow are swift and bold
There is a chill that fills the air
Keep searching for the warmth somewhere.
There is no cozy place to stay
No comfy soft warm hideaway
We’ll have to tough it out I guess
By wearing wool and overdress !
There are those days when I recall
The summers, winter, spring and fall
Of years now past and gone astray
Like thoughts and things I’ve stored away.
Let caution be the path I choose
I may not win but fear to lose
But share will I the pleasures found
And cherish all treasures unbound.
May God grant all eternal peace
To find at last our souls release !
Now I have seen the mighty mountain and heard the restless sea
There is no greater image that my old heart may bring to me
For I am not a stranger adrift upon some foreign shore
But a native born who sees trouble that’s coming soon and more.
I pray that we acknowledge that our future holds great danger
We forgot how times are changed ere we welcomed in the stranger
And so it is that now we are prepared as we must need be
To keep our homeland safe and from all its enemies be free !
The turkey is the oddest bird
It’s gobbling noise is too absurd
It struts and prances all around
But never truly leaves the ground
Except at night to roost in trees
To keep themselves safe from most thieves.
They feed on acorns, seeds and such
Small animals, a few not much
By nature, they are not so sweet
Although we’re keen to taste their meat
Their wings are tiny though they’re tall
The turkey breast is best of all !
Not long ago I ventured out
To learn what life was all about
I took a turn and soon got lost
My error bore too great a cost !
Since then I’ve kept myself aware
Word of the day to all, beware
Your silence is much keener heard
With kindness shown and gentle word
So be alert remember this
All love is captive to a kiss !
A force now rises in the east
To calm the anger of the beast
The winds of change will power divest
And merit fortune in its quest
The time has come, the hour is near
To charm the crowd and vanquish fear !
Can you hear the angels sing
Praising God who is their King
Voices heard above the roar,
Springtime rain or Hypnos snore
All those sounds to please the Lord
All the love we can afford ?
There is a task that we all must face
If we’re to rescue the human race
For what are we if not mortal men
Who’ve fallen down and shall rise again ?
There is a tall price that must be paid
For all of the plans that we have made
Twill take men of a greater calling
To ease the harm that’s now befalling.
This nation awaits in its dire need
For plans of our future to succeed !
Some place there is a winding stair
Where does it go I do not know
I’m only sure it will be there
When ’tis the time for each to go !
But what direction shall one take
For stairs descend or rise above
You have a choice, make no mistake
The coward’s safety or God’s love !
As I’ve walked down the busy streets
Before the dusk its evening greets
And heard the sounds the darkness shares
With all the world and its vast cares
I’m glad that God is listening now
Perhaps ’twill come out right somehow !
