I love you Lord you are my soul
To bide with you this is my goal
But if it cannot ever be
It will be quite alright with me
I’ve had my turn it’s over now
I pray this world finds peace somehow.
It matters not what we each do
Because the end is up to you
And when those final hours arrive
The calm we sought must then survive !
The pain’s intense, I can barely breathe
It is too strange what we each believe,
While discipline has been my guide
I’ve kept God’s word close by my side.
It helps me face the hurt with calm
And aids me to reduce alarm
I truly beg the ache will cease
That I may find some blessed peace !
There are these rifts along the way
With highs and lows that cause delay
But as I read His Holy Book
I know that I’ve not been forsook !
No flower sweet by any name
Shall diminish the roses’ fame
Her nest of petals circled round
Wherein the heart of love is found.
While velvet touch upon the cheeks
Doth wilt away when silence speaks
These precious words that do not last
Are gone as blooms must fade and pass,
The joy of early rosebuds’s blush
Will vanish with our breath’s last rush !
The door of life now slowly closes
Where I am gone please send no roses
For on the stem they live must be
Their petals strewn their fragrance free
To float upon the air or breeze
To swirl or stay where’er they please !
Then place no stone upon my face
I crave no words to mark my space
But on the wind my ashes fly
To seek my God who bides on high
Let no one come to mourn for me
From life’s impact at last I’m free !
The muffled sounds rise from the street
Loud voices raised midst running feet
Mankind has truly lost its way
How shall the children learn to play ?
What kind of anger fills the air
What would you do if you were there ?
There is a God who sees all clearly
Time is come we shall pay dearly
The truth of all it makes no sense
Trust in God’s law our last defense !
Here’s to the vets of every war
What was it they were fighting for
These valiant souls who fought and died
They stood alone or side by side,
For war is such an ugly thing
We’ve seen the sadness it can bring
The victor tastes both death and pain
While those who lose have fought in vain !
Now turn around and search about
There is some way to figure out
Chaos must end ere it’s too late
Or we will share the selfsame fate !
I hear the cries they fill the air
The world is bleeding everywhere
I beg our God to still the sound
This world is dying all around
Oh Lord above please hear our plea
And save us from catastrophe !
When I was young and in my teens
I never owned a pair of jeans
At school we learned to sew and cook,
Spend time with God and His good book.
There was world war, we did our part
And prayed that soon our lives would start
We volunteered for U S O
And questioned where our youth should go !
Cold war, Korea, Vietnam
Ungodly wars since it began
Please pray on this, what shall we do
When will its ugliness be through ?
When lives are touched by tragedy
And good men fall in agony
We pray our God who is all-see
Will help them rise to victory.
Early in the morning before the day begins
I say a little prayer, today the good guy wins
I hope that God will hear and grant my simple wish
That faith will conquer all and pain will not exist.
But as I lie abed awaiting breakfast call
I realise too soon there is no help at all
Our paths are set in stone like those in Galilee
And we must make that choice if we are to be free !
My life becomes this crazy place
I feel I live in outer space
The worries of the world can be
Another notch upon life’s tree.
What does it mean to have a heart
When all about you falls apart
God never meant for so much pain
To punish dreams again, again !
This barren place seems void of air
It’s empty breath reeks of despair
The silence grows as hours pass
Like shadows in a looking glass.
The emptiness this waiting brings
Is like a dirge the lonely sings
Sometimes it is out of distress
The helpless fight against redress,
They question if one ever wins
And what to do when calm begins !
How I do miss the candles’ light
That flickered silent in the night
Its flame once bright now fades to dim
Lights dancing on the glasses’ rim
Creating shadows on the lace
While brightness shimmers on the face.
The waxy smell sweetens the air
Reminding one of evening prayer.
Those aged candlesticks recall
The winding stairs where footsteps fall
There in the dim glow of each night
That sees the heart in candlelight !
Those memories that flood my mind
Are treasures love has left behind
To warm the space of waning hours
Where time does fade amongst the flowers !
They are more clear then e’er before
And to my heart, my faith restore
There is so much that has been lost
I’ve never stopped to count the cost !
But what I know has brought me peace
Because my hopes will never cease
My faith in God does grow and grow
As in my life His blessings flow !
Do you hear the maddening sound
Of chaos rising all around
And do you smell fear in the air
It’s like a shroud that lingers there !
How can we hide, where will we run
This world’s not safe for anyone
As for myself I have scant fear
I’m sure my time moves ever near !
We whisper prayers both night and day
That entreat God to pave the way
And help us all to safer be
Encouraging civility !
The seasons change they come and go
With wind and sun and rain and snow
The years progress both good and bad
With laughs and tears both glad and sad !
Thus life moves on each day aplomb
With no one there to add the sum
Or seek to find the final cost
About our lives and what we’ve lost !
This world that is at war with God
Is the result of spare the rod
For every word that has been writ
Accomplishment for each will fit !
The wind comes rushing through the trees
So like a wild autumnal breeze
With chilly breath and frosted lips
That touches even fingertips !
Imagination floods the mind
Amongst the images we find
Those moments when we push away
We cannot face, no not today !
The morrow brings us renewed strength
To last the whole of one day’s length
God reaches out to us His cup
Inviting us to sip and sup !
I cannot worry what will be
I’m such a tiny entity
This world exists by its own choice
Impervious to my small voice !
I barely keep myself afloat
How can I steer your private boat,
I wish that I possessed the strength
To forge a peace for all at length !
I pray the Lord will kindness show
And point the way that we must go
To conquer anger, fear and doubt
And fill our days with cause devout !
In time teardrops blend with the rain
Flushing emotions down life’s drain
So much alike they shall remain !
Those raindrops falling from the sky
God’s cleansing force here rushing by
This separation won’t defy !
Thus tears and rain can sisters be
And blend together silently
While each retains identity !
True tears much softer surely are
Engendering those near and far
To welcome wind and greet each star !
The oil no longer fills the lamp
The air without is stale and damp
The waiting world sits in the dark
For none can trade without the mark !
This earth now serves another god,
With numbers all even and odd,
How shall we greet the bridegroom now,
Where are the virgins to endow ?
With open mind and begging heart
I choose the path to God’s new start !
The blue and gold or red and black
Would they were here now looking back,
The bonnet or the checkered cap
The bicorne or the shakoes snap
Such uniforms would crack the whip
Both here ashore or board a ship !
The men who fought that very day
They won or lost, some ran away,
Which country were they fighting for
It was two hundred years before,
There to become the last of all
As citizens answered the call !
This world is full of tears and joy
And things to mock and to employ
The least of these seems to be love
Not carnal, but the one above !
I’m saddened when I think about
The lack of trust, the fear, the doubt
That follows in the path of man
Who sows this seed where’er he can !
You’d think the world would tired be
And search for ways to set us free
To bring us hope, help hate relent
Find peace beneath God’s giant tent !
The day was warm, the air was sweet
Clouds seemed to waltz on tip toe feet
The waters rippled in the streams
With motions wrapt in eager schemes !
Somewhere apart the world rejoiced
With hope the need for peace was voiced
What victory may we expect,
Will it take long or be direct ?
How much more time must we await,
When is our expiration date ?
We do not know, of this I’m sure
But beg of God help speed the cure !
My love for God is not a fad
It took much courage, all I had
I wished that I might inspire you
To see the future as I do !
We need to halt and take a rest
Learn to accept how we are blessed
Observing sea, air, earth and sky
With animals and birds that fly !
These creatures part of God’s invent
Display to us His great intent,
This gift to us, the final prize
That transports all to paradise !
July the first in history
The year was eighteen-sixty-three
A troubled time, a day of rage
Some farmer’s field that was the stage.
Those men that died that sad sad day
Had such an awful price to pay
While those who lived to fight again
Could have no thought when it would end !
How ideals change we cannot know
For what’s inside we dare not show
But God alone will make that choice
He is our judge, our heart, our voice !
In toyland there are toys galore
They fill the shelves and crowd the floor
A sight to garner great surprise
It is a childhood paradise !
How marvelous the world would be
If all the children could be free
To run and play and laugh and smile
Enjoying freedom all the while.
Perhaps one day our God above
Will shelter them with all His love
And teach them how to live in peace
As war and hate and pain will cease !
Can’t find the words to speak of things
Like cats and dogs or queens and kings
Toy sailboats on a bathtub sea,
Or old old friends like you and me.
The words get lost along the way
And syllables have gone astray
As hopes and dreams that we’ve forgot
Are memories that linger not.
The slow process of growing old
When hands and feet and hearts turn cold
Are but the facts we need embrace
Before life’s end and time’s last race !
