I love you Lord, with all my might
That trust protects me through the night
It matters not what others say
You light my path to show the way.
The simple truth cannot be beat
Faith will remain win or defeat
I have believed since but a child
Transfixed was I by manner mild.
I’m grateful that I’ve had the chance
To learn to take a lifetime stance
I’ll follow you where’er you go
You know the line,win, place or show !
There are some times I am remiss
And bid goodbye without a kiss,
Today I want to give my thanks
For birds and trees and flowered banks
For sun that greets us every day
And rain that can get in the way !
A breeze that blows and stars that shine
These gifts from God, they’re yours, they’re mine.
I won’t forget how much it means
To taste the wind and smell the greens
I’ll say farewell to bygone days
And join that path to better ways !
The Ides of March have come and gone
Tis strange how phrases linger on
“I will return” impresses me
It had to do with liberty !
Words may convey the sentiment
That many heroes olden meant
And bring to us their magic power
Recalling glory’s finest hour.
But most of all I’d like to hear
Three little words upon my ear
Please take your pick, there are a few
My choice begins with “I love you” .
Who’s asking for another chance
One more wish, perhaps one last dance
What has been said along this line,
Maybe this time it will be fine ?
I’d like to believe there is hope
That still exists a way to cope,
A path that leads to peace and calm
To keep us safe from hurt and harm.
Who dares to dream, you know it’s me
I trust God’s generosity !
I’d like to think that you and I
Are more than distant passersby
Like strangers on a lonely street
With chances that we’ll never meet.
Each day I wake with happy face
Expecting I should life embrace
There must be a way we need seek
To tread a path that’s not oblique.
We can remember to be kind
And leave hypocrisy behind
Have I been dreaming all this while
Or can I sense a timid smile ?
Don’t concentrate on laughs or frowns
All life must have its ups and downs !
This heart of mine is like a tool
It tows the line and bides the rule,
It feels the ache of those in pain
And weeps for souls who can’t sustain
A way of life in which there’s peace
And from this fear who seek release.
Please tell me why the weak must be
Sad victims of inequity,
I wish I knew what I could do
To ease their ache and help them through
The only words I have to say
Are “God is good, He is the way” !
Evening arrives I close my eyes
And drift off into paradise
Morning awakes as daytime breaks
I carry on in spite of aches.
While noble deeds are not my style
I want my life to bring a smile
A simple nod, a happy word
Some small aside, not too absurd !
I need to feel the warmth inside
Assured that truth does here reside,
As I welcome my nightly rest
I thank my God, He knows the best.
As time goes by do you recall
Those yesteryears when you were all
Aglow with thoughts of what you’d be
In that bright world the hopeful see ?
Have you questioned why dreams get lost
Or wishes crushed and values tossed,
Or why one cannot sleep at night
Or dreads the coming of the light ?
The heart denies these fears exist
Yet still the lack of faith persists
While you alone must make the call
Your trust in God can conquer all !
I have climbed to the top of the mountain
I have waded the impossible stream
I have suffered through a lifetime of pain
And been part of the American dream.
I have held myself in parade proudly
And have determined that God made us all
I shall answer the last call profoundly
Be it the spring, summer, winter or fall.
The times have come the times have gone
Some times were good and some forlorn
The heart remembers with a smile
The days that made our lives worthwhile.
The gentle deeds and loving word
Our ears with gratitude have heard
Are not forgot but linger long
And in our minds repeat the song
That angels in the clouds on high
Will echo till the day we die
That God is love not foolish pride
And comforts us from deep inside !
I think I have come to the end of my dreams
Was it but pretend, because that’s how it seems.
I’m not sure I know what the next step will be
But whatever it is Lord tarry with me
Forgive my failures and stay close by my side
As I slowly begin the last of my ride.
I’ve traveled so far on my journey of light
It’s time now to enter that final goodnight.
The sound of voices I love may twist the rules
Belief otherwise is the substance of fools.
The God I know is good and kind
The world outside is deaf and blind
The rules of life are cast aside
And compromised by greed and pride.
The little that we know and fear
Won’t aid us as the time grows near
To make that one decision bold
Wherein the final truth is told.
God’s love will triumph over all
When bugles sound the last roll call
I’d like to be excluded from
Anathemas old curse and sum !
The frost that clouds my window pane
Left over from the icy rain
Fogs the view from my balcony
Posing this deep dark mystery
That begs an answer loud and clear
I can’t remember why I’m here.
Remind me Lord what I must do
To keep in harmony with You.
Be fair and just and kind and wise
Remember truth discard the lies
Help the poor and defend the weak
And thank the Lord each time I speak.
What obstacle is there for me
To serve my God for thought is free ?
I need not wave my flag on high
For enemies of God to spy.
They learn enough from day to day
And shadow those who grateful pray,
They hope to turn us from our faith
And bend us to the devils wraith.
I will not bend or turn or twist
Release me from this traitors list !
We know the hand of God above
Bids us accept His way of love
This should be so for all of us
The fuel of life’s great omnibus.
To lead another by the hand
We find it sense to understand
God made no one to live alone
Our hearts and heads not carved of stone.
We own the power to include care
With values that we keep and share
Our duty is to love with joy
In truthful ways we need employ
For love is more than carnal lust
It’s kind and sweet and sure and just.
Is there some place that we may hide
With God to keep us calm inside
Free from the fear of aging pace
Another trial or pain to face,
Or distant battle to be fought
Within this web in which we’re caught ?
We’d like to think there is an end
In which both fear and hope will mend
To keep us whole and safe from harm
There in the crook of God’s vast arm !
I love the sound of children at play
It makes one smile and brightens the day
A little child is a golden gift
And sure to give ones spirit a lift,
With smiles so sweet and a tear or two
Their innocence and sheer trust in you
Gives one the courage to stand up tall
Unselfish and kind loving and all.
I thought my heart would melt away
I stood and watched it die today
I never dreamt I’d feel this sad
I’ve sacrificed the love I had.
I stood aside took second place
And spoke with God to seek some space
I tried the best that I knew how
That it would turn out right for now
I trusted God and queried why
I cannot give love one last try !
It would be sad if I should wake
To find my life one great mistake
The road I took was meek and mild
I trusted God, I am His child
I sought His love and gentle care
I chose His way to learn and share
I never thought that I should doubt
What His wisdom was all about
Now that I’m sure that I was right
I’ll see no fear in day or night.
Ever after once in awhile
On the darkest day to be found
The hidden sun reveals a smile
And the earths gladness does resound.
In but an instant here and there
You can note an ecstatic sight
The sun peeks thru the sudden flare
And our wee space glows ever bright.
A world that’s drowning in darkness
Lurks about like the stranger lost
To seek hearts bearing true kindness
While not discounting the cost.
The clouds break together once more
Simple as day following dawn
And our strengths grow stronger before
We renew our faith as reborn.
Oh little star above my head
How safe I am upon my bed
Where I can see your friendly light
Still glowing brightly in the night.
Sometimes I wake before the dawn
To find your image not yet gone
I am so glad that you’re still there
It firms my faith that God does care.
They left her on the edge of space
To seek another resting place
Avow that sweet is freedoms cry
Yet truer still than words imply
To careless cast off bonds is wrong
For chains of love to life belong.
When caution seals our tongue in cheek
Some prudence tells that pride is weak
Hours and minutes however lost
With wishing can our strengths exhaust.
Small matter from whose lips it’s heard
I’ll never comprehend this word
For freedom simply means to me
To flee responsibility.
Seeing in the distance clearly
Future bought on terms too dearly
So dismal are hopes that echo
In some shadow of time ago
To free each lover of this care
While nature may that course impair.
Last remnant of deserted whims
When concert played among her limbs
A loud and far too vibrant call
Descending with unwanted pall
Upon one holy truth denied
That scope and mystic need implied
There dealt a blow that carried dread
As all her aging children fled.
Bare skeletons now etched against a dark and somber sky
Which cannot hide some vital truths life’s weakness will deny
Though trees are not the like of man the semblance there is real
For trees are home to living things that breed and grow and feel.
And thus we look into the sky for guidance of some sort
Wherein exists one simple rule that cannot fade this thought
There is no justice only something close to compromise
That tempers what has been false suicide and loves demise.
Chaos and disorder these are our lonely heritage
There rising with painful woe to leave behind our bondage
And wasted days within a world in which we’re judged by time
With fit and sleek accomplishments of our respected clime.
A simple turn my life has taken
Does promise me I’m not forsaken
As a thousand thoughts do fill my mind
With forgotten dreams my heart will find
And the hope grows stronger day by day
As I try to live the modest way
Where a second chance is not that rare
With the promise faith will end despair
I’ve put away those days of regret
And trust in a cause I won’t forget
Life will be all I hoped it would be
Remembering that God’s love is free.
There’s a sound that wakes in the early dawn
With a still that breaks into coming morn
And promises us one complete new day
To carry our cares and sadness away
Soon we begin again to hope once more
That we may chance upon life’s second door
A beautiful thought and wonderful dream
Believe it fits in the ultimate scheme !
These memories that from our youth still cling
To values old that hope and trust will bring
Into this world since truth has lost its place
With no good choice to fill the empty space.
A valued thought by chance may come to mind
To help employ the wisdom we shall find
And question why our world has lost its way
Amid the toxins of the present day.
As men reject their past identity
In this sad world of such dishonesty
And leave us here to ponder why they do,
We lose our faith their words or deeds ring true!
