Too many dreams have come and gone
While life itself still lingers on
The days pass by, the candle burns
As years fly past, the earth still turns.
What was today now bids goodbye
And all that’s left, a quiet sigh !
Too many dreams have come and gone
While life itself still lingers on
The days pass by, the candle burns
As years fly past, the earth still turns.
What was today now bids goodbye
And all that’s left, a quiet sigh !
This heart of mine cannot erase
The image of that gentle face
I’d noticed oft how kind you were
To passerby or some stranger.
The paths we trod as each grew old
Echo our values wise and bold
The Lord above shall judge us all
And we must answer to His call !
I’ve often thought that life would be
A picnic ‘neath an apple tree
Or cottage with white picket fence
Set in a garden filled with scents
Perhaps a seaside path that winds
Along some beach the seaweed finds.
That used to be the way I thought
Until my vision soon got caught
Into the lessons life may teach
All we perceive before we reach
That space in time when truth revealed
There’s too much left that is concealed !
I feel the mist that covers all
While winding through the shades of fall
Seems life survives beneath this tent
Of autumn days that God has sent.
The leaves that fly along the street
Now dog the foosteps of our feet,
Ambitious winds that heave and sigh
Impatient now await goodbye.
The seasons come, the seasons go
This is the pattern that we know
So little changes as we pass
Our lives before God’s looking glass !
Excuse me but I need to say
That all I hear are lies today
Please tell me how the truth got lost
And what will be the total cost ?
Is there one person who does know
Which way the winds are apt to blow
Who can define the final goal
Can it be true we’ve sold our soul ?
This must not be a bartered thing
For honor soars on vaulted wing !
