At times the pain is so intense
That even tears are no defense
I want to run or fly away
When all my prayers can’t save the day
I do not see how else to live
And need your help to please forgive
Those days that I have thought to die
Before my time to bid goodbye.
I know that there is more to say
Please guide me Lord, show me the way !
From that bridge in Concord to each foreign shore
Bid God above bless them all forevermore
With that elusive peace we’ve been praying for
To rest at last outside of God’s own front door !
The battleground of Shiloh has fields of missing and of dead
Where many nameless small white crosses lineup from head to head
A place where ten thousand died as through the heart this nation tore
While Shiloh from the bible came with His message, peace not war
And was the home of God’s own ark and His holy covenant
That from the Lord to us our peace and true happiness was sent !
As I look out o’er rooftops drear
I sense a world so full of fear
A world succumbing to a crowd
That knows too little, speaks too loud.
The truth at best now gone astray
Leaves nothing left for one to say
Of all the answers to perceive
Pledge to our God to still believe !
Each morn I wake to great surprise
It’s not yet time for my demise
Another day, another chance
To take a shot at life’s last dance.
Oh how much fun t’would be to see
What each new day may bring to me
Of course now it is far too late
To entertain some change in fate.
I ponder what is yet in store
And pray that it is so much more
Than just the weeks and months ahead
But joy and hope and love instead !
In the silence before the dawn
I stop to think why I was born
God does not mean for us to fall
We are all His, fat, thin, short, tall
Be sure to know that He is there
With love enough for all to share !
The winds of change blow loud and long
I hear the call both wild and strong
While in my mind the challenge grows
From my head down unto my toes.
My heart’s in pain and agony
There is no help that I can see
This world I’ve known melted away
Please help me God, I’ve lost my way !
I hear the bells this Sunday morn
They ring aloud their glory song
How grand it is to hear the sound
Their voices raised in faith profound !
My heart has cried too many tears
Through all those lean and lonely years
When God alone was my one hope
The only way I learned to cope.
I can’t forget He helped me through
Sad days that were both grim and blue
Without His love there’s no success
And life can be too full of stress.
I’m glad that He was always there
To lift my pain, my burdens share
I know that I am not alone
God is my Rock, my healing stone !
The dark descends upon my soul
I query if I’ve met my goal
I cannot know until the end
If I have been both foe and friend.
For in my passion I have found
At times we all may run aground
I never meant to lose my way
And I have nothing more to say,
Except that God is always there
In peace or war or bleak despair
And pray His grace be with us all
If we survive or if we fall !
In God’s new world of kingdom come
There’s room for all and not just some
The space is wide and welcoming
It does not matter what you bring
If you can’t walk or run or trot
He’ll welcome you and question not.
Just bring with you an open heart
That’s yearning for a brand new start
A mind that’s willing to agree
He knows what’s right for you and me
And eager hands anxious to care
Because His world is ours to share !
I beg You Lord have faith in me
I need Your care and sympathy
For in my nakedness at length
I lost my shame but found my strength !
Of all the dreams I’ve ever had
……But one remains quite clear
The dearest one I do believe
……That God is very near.
He sees our woes and understands
……How fearful we must be
And promises to stay close by
……Until at last we’re free !
I wandered in the darkness while life was passing by
In my nomad-existence I never questioned why
And as those days expired I wondered what I should do
I asked my God to help me please, try to see me through
And from that day to this I have followed in His sight
I don’t reside in darkness, my life is full of light !
I am a simple gardener along life’s verdant way
I’ve seen the flowers come and go and know they shall not stay
Fact is our lives are seasonal and vary day by day
I hope that we may settle soon and clasp our hands to pray !
Is this the place where God abides
Above that space the rainbow hides
Where stars and comets fill the sky
As fragile earth bids each goodbye ?
I’ve learned to live from day to day
Perform my task and pay my way
To stand up for what’s right not wrong
And teach my heart how to be strong.
I’d like to be a child of peace
And pray world chaos soon would cease
However I know that can’t be
Until our Lord deigns we are free !
I wish I knew a leafy bower
Where I might rest for but an hour
And there among those pleasant scenes
I’d pass my time and dream my dreams !
I can’t foretell the story of what each life may hold
Because all are different, some timid, some are bold
We’re sure throughout the years that truth is bound to unfold
Pray we’ll accept this message before we are too old !
Our lives have wandered far afield
And cannot know what time will yield
We beg that God will understand
And lend to us His helping hand.
The world is done and stranger still
Few people care, some never will
We wend our way among the maze
Of trying and forgotten days.
This generation, it is lost
There is no way to count the cost
All heaven’s tears are raining down
Oh save us Lord, lest we should drown !
Sometimes I think life has become
A great big wart upon my thumb
At length some things are cumbersome
They knock us down and overcome !
I always thought that I would be
The keeper of my destiny
The heroine who did not flee
From most of life’s adversity.
Well here I am in trouble stuck
With my lifestyle, I’ve learned to duck
And from defeat my fortune pluck
Please help me God, You’re my good luck !
I live with pain that never ends
At length, we have become old friends
I’ve learned to thrive in spite of it
At times it takes a bit of grit !
I’ve dreamt a dream wherein I win
But that’s if God will count me in
I need His help and love and care
Without that, I will get nowhere !
When I recall how life is spent
I wonder where my childhood went
I guess the aged think like me
Together we share empathy.
In all the time that has gone by
Seems childhood is the first to fly
The lessons learned, the very best
They’ve helped us to survive life’s test.
We made it through this miracle
No stopping now, what e’er we do !
Now I’ve writ for many a year
Both out of love or foolish fear
I’ve learned to cut my words in half
To add a chuckle or a laugh,
And scale down every fancy word
So that my thoughts are plainly heard
I beg You Lord not to forget
That these old bones have some use yet !
Rage, rage against the breaking dawn
Rage, rage against the coming storm
And silent let the pressure swell
Unto the world our sadness tell,
This story of its own demise
That happens here before our eyes.
For what is there the heart must ask
To bring to us a greater task ?
Our Lord in heaven see and hear
The ending grows too close, too near !
Hang on to your wishes whatever they are
For a life without dreams will never go far !
To live a life of no regret
To dream until that last sunset
To know what one is waiting for
Or how to seek the proper door,
To find a light when it grows dark
Or follow pathways in the park
To lend a hand to all who need
Or understand when one must lead,
These are the things that men should learn
When time does come to be their turn.
Our God has writ what all must do
To be His servant kind and true !
