It is the muted sound of falling rain
Echoing slowly down the outside drain.
The movements start and stop in spurts and splays

Today I trudged along the road
While packing quite a bulky load
My spirit crushed by all the stress
My soul in pain, under duress.
I wish I knew what I should do
To help myself and see this through
At times I feel the battle’s lost
Since I can’t count the total cost

We are the home of heroes, every color, every size
But who are those now making this effort to minimize ?
It’s been our own courageous patriots who’ve built this land
A place where citizens can work together hand in hand
This homeland where the people have the freedom and the choice

There is a sight that I can see
It is sheer wonderment to me
With April just around the bend
When will this winter ever end ?
Outside my window by the pane
I see the snow, it’s here again
The barren branches are all white
Three inches higher than last night !
The snow’s been falling to the ground

Warm here inside, I’m sure it’s grand

It seems that I am often caught

The nuances we have displayed
Or values by which life is made
The causes that are pro or con
The themes we’ve based our lives upon
The book of rules that guides our choice
The feelings that command our voice
Our God is there to share it all
It is His final judgement call !

A glow of orange floods each room
To banish all life’s doom and gloom
The sun’s rays bouncing off the cots
If they are filled or they are not.
The morning stirs, the day begins
We cannot know who’ll lose, who wins,
The halls are quiet like a mouse
There are few sounds about the house.
I hear tip-toes along the hall
A squeaky wheel, a pregnant stall
The silence drowns my every thought
Too sad this spot where some are brought !

The veil of white now settles down
It covers everything around
The falling flakes make not a sound
They simply float down to the ground.
There’s not a spot that isn’t white
The sky is filled with dazzling light.
The glistening snow shines ever bright

I hear the sounds of early morning now
Somewhere in the distance, a mooing cow
With traffic passing on a busy road
The whir of truck tires with their heavy load
The predawn mist that finds it’s meant to stay
On a day that seems dark and dullish grey
As the tides roll in they all crash ashore
Just to wash away what was here before !

Sunlight comes seeping through the blinds
To rest in all the cracks it finds
Its yellow fingers reaching out
To catch those rays that dance about.
The shards of light that move and sway
Examples of the sun at play
I wish that I could hitch a ride
Upon a sunbeam while it glides
And wake up where the sunlight grows
Just as the sun begins its glow !
