That sometimes love may waste away
When it can find no place to stay
To learn at last life’s saddest part
Trying to piece a broken heart !
That sometimes love may waste away
When it can find no place to stay
To learn at last life’s saddest part
Trying to piece a broken heart !
All through my life these dreams I’ve had
Some good, some sad with others glad
Like wishes I have made before
That often slipped under the door
To get so lost that all forget
This life has had no ending yet !
The time is still to come my dear
With climax that conveys no fear
Into this world I naked came
And when I leave twill be the same !
The winter chill returns once more
As reckless waves crash on the shore
The eagle nests in heaven’s skies
As snowflakes fall before one’s eyes.
The winter has too soon begun
Make way anon for frozen fun
Unpack your muffler, hood and ski
Tis now the hour for snowtime glee.
Enjoy as days all fade so fast
Note, even winter scurries passed
As we prepare for spring’s encore
To be life’s cycle evermore !
What is it that I want to say
What act of wisdom to display
What golden thought may I impart
To let you know what’s in my heart ?
For I am old, beyond most fear
My day of judgement soon draws near
The only message that I know
Is fear your God and love Him so !
There are so many varied things that I have learned to do
Twixt time and need and fuss and rush before my life is through
Yet I recall the one and all that is most overdue
I’ve tried so hard, I don’t know how, I cannot say “adieu” !
TO MY SON.
Oh sad it was, too sad to bear
To live a life full of despair
Twas never meant to be a chain
To anchor one to fear or pain.
How simple all our lives might seem
And open to most sorts of dream
If only peace were there for free
For all life’s forms of slavery !
Could we but know the history
Of all God’s miracles we see,
That every minute of each day
Are playing out in grand display,
Oh, what a wonder we would learn
For every fraction of life’s turn.
As occurs here before our eyes
This program happens in disguise
The simplest flight of birds on high
Got their direction times gone by
God’s world is perfect as can be
Except for fools like you and me !
Too many dreams have gone astray
Or run aground along the way
Too many hopes have disappeared
In clouds of rising silent fear
Think positive in all you do
Your endless faith will see you through !
Tis Sunday morn a day of rest
Enjoy the day and dream your best
Pick up the pieces if you care
And be assured that He is there !
At times I feel I am obsessed
By hopes and dreams and fears possessed
The hope that we shall find a way
To seek a greater role to play
A dream to be the brighter star
Than what we ever really are
The fear to put our dreams to rest
And hope that all will do their best !
There’s an instant lonesomeness in the whispering of the winds
That fills the heart with loneliness before each day begins
There is a moment of darkness that dims all of our sights
A prelude to the blindness that precedes life’s true delights !
There’s a layer of frost upon the ground
A more glistening sight can ne’er be found
See how the light and the shadows collect
Mother Nature’s efforts, I do suspect.
There’s the feeling of snow now in the air
To promise us all it soon will be there
Oh for those days when the time used to be
We were all young and our freedom was free.
When life was a joy and so full of zest
Before we’d begun our own lifetime’s quest
As dew on the rose accompanied dawn
The birds begin singing come early morn.
God was right there when we opened our eyes
Depend upon Him, He offers the prize
For life without faith is no life at all
I’d rather be dust than miss His last call !
There is a joy that loving brings
With laughter and a smile that sings
A twinkle that does cause the eyes
To shine and light the darkest skies.
Keep positive in all you do
Remember lessons taught to you
Thank God each day for every gift
Beg Him to all your spirits lift
Take care you are divorced from spite
Continue prayers both day and night !
There is an oak outside my door
That stretches up ten stories more
There is no way that I can see
The sidewalk to the left of me.
This ancient tree is truly old
Devoid of nicks and is not bald
Her branches spread this way and that
She wears them like a giant hat .
And when it rains the ground is dry
Because her leaves are piled so high
Oft do I think, about those trees
That gently sway into the breeze
I’d like to know what I can do
To be that free and live long too !
Well my dear, I saw an old friend today
With her soft pink skin and her hair of gray
Her eyes so clear framed by those gentle curls
She must have been the prettiest of girls.
As we sat there together I could see
That she struggled hard to remember me
She was a stranger that I knew so well
There’s no point to the oldtime tales retell.
I’m sorry that my dear friend has moved on
But I’ll visit again ere we’re both gone !
TO ROSA, GOD BLESS !
The world outside is crass and cold
The air inside, both brash and bold
And takes time getting used to it
If we expect our lives to fit
Let’s make the best of what we’ve got
No matter if it fits or not !
I hear sweet music in the air
That’s offered up to God in prayer
It sounds so full of faith and awe
That is what hymnals are meant for.
We praise our Lord, call on His name
Help us remember why He came
Show us how to aid in His work
And help our neighbors, never shirk.
Let’s make this earth a better place
In which to raise the human race
Depend on Him, He’s always there
To ease our pain and wonders share !
I thank You Lord, for all my dreams
And all my silly hare-brained schemes,
For all the joy that I have known
In spite of all life’s sadness shown.
Like those whose paths have crossed with mine
Adding to that, past valentines,
A birthday message gone astray
Or those I’ve loved who went away,
Remember Lord that I’m still here
My day of reckoning grows near !
AMEN.
Oh how I wish that I could fly
On magic wings into the sky
To visit in that storied land
Where dreams come true and hopes expand.
With love and joy in every nook
And shelves chock full of toy and book
A special place devoid of fear
Where no one ever sheds a tear.
There is no hunger anywhere
And there are beds for all to share
Nor is the sound of anger heard
All seem to have a kindly word.
How marvelous if we could see
Our world bathed in such harmony !
There is a shaft of light just resting on my sill
Some mayhaps see it, others never can or will
Like sunlight in a garden when the leaves are still
Basking in the silence some hearts may sense a chill
There gleaming in the distance o’er each dale and hill
God’s gracious glow of love while gifting us a thrill !
I feel the reach of freedom here
That calls so softly on my ear
Quite childlike in its innocence
To not accept, would make no sense.
Now freedom is a hopeful word
It means the best to us we’ve heard
And conjures up a special brand
Of lifestyle that comes close at hand
It treads on no one else’s space
Where each moves on at one’s own pace
A precious act protecting rights
Avoiding foolish, feckless frights !
The willows in the wood reach the ground
Stretching their branches down all around
The stars in the sky shimmer and shine
With greetings they bring to yours and mine.
This year’s ending with no alarm
Leaving us with past wealth and old charm
Let’s look ahead to days that soon come
Sharing with others a bit and some
Forgiving all our errors and sins
How wonderful each New Year begins !
Lord, how much longer must we wait
To meet our Maker, seal our faith
What vision is it we need see,
Embrace our hearts and set us free ?
What battle more than we shall dare
Or journey far that all may share,
Where in the end of win or loss
Each faces his own special cross !
Too soon the journey ends my friend
And leaves us much that can’t unbend
To make way for His finest blend
Of all the bliss God’s pleased to send !
Mocking bird, mocking bird sing me a song
Keep me amused through this afternoon long
Oh sweetest of sounds, please show me the rest
Sing me those melodies I love the best !
My heart flies high when I espy
A rainbow shimmer in the sky
Or when a robin sings his song
It helps me smile the whole day long.
I love the humming of the bees
As they meander round the eaves
I won’t desert this joy I feel
Because I’m sure that God is real !
There is a sound that stirs the breeze
And seems to lift the fallen leaves
Out of the path of morning dew
As every day begins anew.
The sky it lightens in the east
Appearing as some great grey beast
Tis time soon for the sun to rise
And flush the stardust from our eyes !
Have you heard the bells on Christmas Day
When the old familiar carols play
Their sounds all echoing on the air
How I’ve wished that we could all be there.
Let the music and voices be raised
To our God on high singing His praise
Though those we love may be far away
Please send them our love this Christmas Day !
