I often think this plan we’ve made
Needs lots of help, a large band-aid
Like an old game we used to play
To whisk our idle hours away.
Remember this now if you please
When you’re on “Broadway” take your ease
You do not have to go to “jail”
Just whiz on by, do not post bail.
However when you pause on GO
Make ready for the final blow
For life is one great big surprise
It’s meant to open all our eyes !
Unhappiness we cannot bear
Because of sadness we all share,
Please help us Lord to lift our wings
While searching for life’s sweeter things !
The dark we’ve seen is bleak and bold
Its purpose is too bare and cold
This world we live in lacks the care
Who opts to choose to reside there ?
Where does one go to seek a life
When all about face nought but strife
It’s not too late there’s still some time
To save us from such godless crime ?
There is one place that we may hide
To keep us free from fears outside,
Tis only God who knows the way
To guide our lives both night and day !
Before You grew to be quite tall
Sweet Jesus, when You were still small
What kind of life was it You led
When first arising from Your bed ?
We know at twelve You went to Shul
There questioned and reviewed God’s rule
To keep Your faith You did atone
Though in Your trial You stood alone.
Oh Son of God, You did not fail
Your life we shall forever hail
You are our Hero and our Friend
It shall be so until the end !
At times I’m sure I hear the sound
Of children laughing all around
I hear the patter of their feet
In clitter-clatters from the street.
Oh how I wish that I were there
As joy was rising in the air
Remember how it used to be
When hearts were young and love was free ?
Those days are gone, they won’t come back
Our lives today under attack
Why must we suffer such distress
I do not know, what is your guess ?
This morning we opened the windows wide
To let fresh air swish around inside
The breezes blew all of one accord
In every space where the dust had stored.
While a little voice whispered to me
Aren’t you glad to be young and free
Well, that’s half true, I have to admit
But young’s not how I’d describe the fit !
We need a hero, one worth waiting for
To warm up our hearts and open each door
We need memories to keep love alive
Supplying reason for us to survive.
We need a leader to tell us what’s true
To rally our faith for red, white and blue
We need a hero to stand with us now
To give us access to heaven somehow !
If I peeked outside my window blind
What do you suppose that I might find
Maybe some bird there upon a limb
Who silent waits for day to begin ?
Perhaps just a hint of morning rain
Splashing on my dusty window pane
Or an errant harbinger of spring
Anxious to join in God’s offering ?
Whatever else we find awaits there
Could be a wonder that all might share !
Our hearts are full with eyes cried dry
Why must our youth so sadly die ?
How many dreams have withered there
Upon the vine of unkempt care ?
There is a tale through ages told
Of Midas and his touch of gold
But none compares with what we know
Happened to Jesus long ago.
There in a garden on a hill
On one dark night so sad and still
A troop of soldiers with their knives
Approached God’s twelve to seal their lives.
The battle raged among the few
The fighting fierce and overdue
Some ran away while others hid
It was the task Sanhedrin bid.
Two thousand years we’ve known the Word
Though truth is not all we have heard
The story thrives, it grows and grows
With fleeting time God’s blessing glows !
Our men who died on foreign shore
Ne’er to be seen forever more
They sacrificed to keep us free
Gave us the gift of liberty
And we shall try to bring them home
From foreign shores ne’er more to roam !
Oh little bird, just you and me
We dream upon our balcony
With you and all your feathers fine
And me and all my words devine
We are a pair, a sight to see
Each night there on that balcony !
God’s wisdom, love and understanding
With hopes beyond our comprehending
Soon the dawn awakes and hears our call
And brings the message that’s meant for all !
HE IS TRULY RISEN !
Good morning Lord, this is another day
With all new miracles spreading our way
Among the olden dreams we still expect
Like fantasies perchance that we reject
Who knows what favor God will deign to show
Let’s give it time to spread and shed and grow !
I feel so empty deep inside
Like I’ve been on a rocket ride
Perhaps to Venus or to Mars
Out there in space among the stars.
Quite like the stranger I’ve become
To find myself grown cold and numb
Will someone help explain to me
Where shall I seek my destiny ?
Life’s had its ups and had its downs
It’s had its smiles amidst the frowns
Each moment comes, each moment goes
Some days it’s calm, some days it blows.
There is no way that I can tell
If this is heaven or it’s hell
I wish I knew how to define
When I, at last, run out of time !
We are a generation praying peace will come
Meant for God’s entire world not only but for some
We are here dreaming miracles will light our way
With the arrival of each bright and newer day !
I’d like to believe that words live on
Long after both you and I have gone
I pray some of those words we have said
May linger longer within our head
And beg God’s blessing will favor you
With joy and hope and great passion true !
The road is long, the journey’s hard
This path that winds its way to God
I am not sure if I’ve the strength
To carry on for its whole length.
But I shall try no matter what
I’ve pledged to give it all I’ve got
I love You Lord, both heart and mind
It is Your peace I hope to find !
The day is dark, the day is still
There is a cross upon the hill
There’s not a movement to be heard
There is no sound, no not a word.
A simple silence fills the room
The world about is deep in gloom
Both God and man will soon rejoice
Thank you, dear Lord, we’ve found our voice !
Out of the depths of our despair
Rises our determination
For we are nothing if not fair
Pursueing God’s destination !
The Lord of heaven can fill my heart
I’m just waiting for His reign to start !
It’s sad to think the world we know
Is packing up, prepared to go
Where are we going I can’t say
I haven’t heard a word today
I’m hoping that it’s not to Mars
Although I’m not opposed to stars
I’d much prefer old Jupiter
Though it is so much gassier !
Sometimes I believe that raindrops are tears
Falling from angel eyes
Reminding us that angels also have
Dreams not yet realized !
Long time ago, I was a little tot
There was this cartoon that I loved a lot !
Oh, Popeye once you were a bunch of fun
I laughed at all those silly fights you won
I’d like to know about Miss Olive Oyl
Tell me is she still your favorite girl ?
Popeye, of all the foods you love the best
Does your tin-canned spinach still top the rest ?
What have you done with your old corn cob pipe
You know the one, that pipe you never light ?
I sure am glad that you have hung around
With all of that odd salty seaman sound
My dears for all the smiles I say thank you
To Popeye,Wimpy, Bluto, Sweet Pea too !
There is a quiet that I can’t explain
It is the muted sound of falling rain
Echoing slowly down the outside drain.
The movements start and stop in spurts and splays
Enchanted melodies each raindrop plays
Upon the mind wherein life’s shadow strays !
I hear the sounds reverberate
The noises echo through the hall
Their voices quickly escalate
And laughter rises over all.
It’s great to spend together time
Tis meant for family and friends
I’m loathe to seek another clime
Let’s pray our friendship never ends !
Today I trudged along the road
While packing quite a bulky load
My spirit crushed by all the stress
My soul in pain, under duress.
I wish I knew what I should do
To help myself and see this through
At times I feel the battle’s lost
Since I can’t count the total cost
I’ll keep on trying to hold fast
This effort will not be my last
Since God and me are like a team
Let’s pray the outcome is a dream !
