The winds of March blow bleak and cold
The air outside grows stark and bold
In my long life I’ve never known
A season where no seeds were sown
Seems God has chosen to reject
Requests for weather circumspect !
I’d like to believe there is hope
To train our lives with broader scope
And come prepared for challenge made
To seek and find not to evade
The knowledge that can teach us how
To live with nature then and now !
How much longer Lord, must I wait
Upon my knees aside the gate
To learn if there’s a chance that I
Have found some favor in God’s eye ?
Perchance to dream and closer be
To dwell in that eternity
Along with those who’ve gone before
Now waiting there outside the door ?
Oh what a joy would be allowed
If I could join that chosen crowd !
This heart of mine is like a tool
It tows the line and bides the rule,
It feels the ache of those in pain
And weeps for souls who can’t sustain
A way of life in which there’s peace
And from this fear who seek release.
Please tell me why the weak must be
Sad victims of inequity,
I wish I knew what I could do
To ease their ache and help them through
The only words I have to say
Are “God is good, He is the way” !
In darkest night I hear the sound
Of silence folding all around
The gentle sway of emptiness
Enlightens my need of success.
The morn will come and light the way
To help me face a bright new day
Another start, another try
These gifts the world does not deny.
Since time decides if I have failed,
My heart concludes, the ship has sailed
I’ll clasp my hands and close my eyes
And lose myself in paradise !
I look into the blue above
For signs of God’s eternal love
And lo, before me clouds arise
To fill the void in vacant skies,
They dance and float with such panache
Creating panoramic flash !
I’m dazzled by their wild display
Reminding me this is His way,
And I shall ever grateful be
He made this world including me
While most dreams of forgotten youth weigh heavy now
Lost illusions and troubled times did crease the brow
As thought gave birth across the miles to freedoms wings
There bides the chance one could expect last happenings.
Another time, another place, another way
Perhaps to offer us one more redeeming stay
And celebrate the fact that we are yet alive
Despite the varied odds of life we did survive
Oh Lord, we thank Thee for one final escapade
Ere we embark upon God’s holy esplanade !
As time goes by do you recall
Those yesteryears when you were all
Aglow with thoughts of what you’d be
In that bright world the hopeful see ?
Have you questioned why dreams get lost
Or wishes crushed and values tossed,
Or why one cannot sleep at night
Or dreads the coming of the light ?
The heart denies these fears exist
Yet still the lack of faith persists
While you alone must make the call
Your trust in God can conquer all !
Oh blessed Lord, please hear my plea
I beg of You remember me
My face is not my crucial part
I offer You my loving heart.
It beats so hard I cannot hear
My puzzled thoughts are rife with fear
My cause is just, my trust is true
Accept my faith, it came from You.
The crystal beads that hug the trees
All together bright and shining
A stunning show of winter freeze
Icy wind and rain combining.
The diamond glaze that rings this space
And ever keeps us expecting
Soon disappears without a trace
As first sun begins reflecting !
Here in the deepest reaches of my mind
I treasure all the happiness I find
The chaos of this world about me flies
Encouraging a weakness faith denies.
While each new day must make me stronger now
The battle looms ahead that won’t allow
My trembling hands to fumble as I play
Instead I’ll clasp them tighter as I pray.
The Lord will guide me in this need I’m sure
To help me find one goal that is secure
Direct my hands to forge a brand new start
And bless me with His kind and loving heart.
The mourning dove and I have been
Observing each and much akin
Our lives as such kept company
In times of hope and liberty.
The wings of birds do restless fly
Across the width and length of sky
To search for truth and wonder how
We each survived from then to now.
I cash my chips with grateful ease
And beg my God to help me please
This is my stand and once for all
I’ll answer to survivals call !
I have climbed to the top of the mountain
I have waded the impossible stream
I have suffered through a lifetime of pain
And been part of the American dream.
I have held myself in parade proudly
And have determined that God made us all
I shall answer the last call profoundly
Be it the spring, summer, winter or fall.
We dwell upon this chaotic earth
With no understanding of our worth
We twirl about and chance fantasize
There exists much more than meets the eyes !
None but God knows the fabric within
That fosters depth and thickness of skin
And softens the odd thoughts that we think
On return from adversity’s brink.
God has the knowledge of all our tasks
And the simple truth is what He asks
To live with respect and do your best
Depend on Him to secure the rest !
A hopeful dream has piqued my mind
If I seek God what shall I find ?
A treasure trove of caring thought
With acts of love in kindness taught
Great patience gathered all around
While simple truths and peace abound,
The joy that bides with one each day
And faith that carries fear away
The gentle calm believing brings
And happiness where gladness sings.
The morning dew collects upon the petals of the rose
The leaves that fall into the stream drift as the water flows
The breeze that greets the newborn morn may whisper ever sweet
As birdlings in their parents nest await their early treat.
I’d like to think that men are bold and to their faith keep true
It might just be my fondest dream it would be me and you
The dearest hope I can conceive is one which makes Him glad
These must be joys that God does love and will not make Him sad.
The winter winds do fill my space
They chill my heart and sting my face
The air is like a frigid blast
I hope its strength cannot long last.
The open fields seem bleak with snow
Where do the timid creatures go
When winters length remains too long
And spring delays her joyous song ?
There’s much to learn if we can see
Some pattern in our destiny
That wings to us a message clear
Hold on to faith dispel the fear.
God will not fail He loves us still
We need His care, His word, His will
And if we do all that we should
We’ll find our lives so blessed with good !
The ships in harbor seem absurd
There waiting on the watchmen’s word
To raise life’s sail on swollen waves
And seek escape from salty graves !
The heart is full of sadness
The mind so full of grief
One needs a sense of gladness
For laughter brings relief.
A simple love of goodness
Can reach out to lift pain
An act of tender kindness
Stirs souls to hope again.
I heard the bells last Christmas Day
And all the hymns carillon played,
I thought about the stories told
When I was young, not quite so old,
And pray the children that I meet
Remember well and will repeat
Sweet memories that change has cost
Tradition gone beliefs we’ve lost,
Time to revive the olden days
Returning to those golden ways !
Tis Christmastime, it’s here once more
The folks we love rush through the door
We greet them all with happy face
They’re all decked out in tweeds and lace !
We’ll dine and open gifts en masse
We’ll hug and kiss and take a glass
Of Yuletide nog or maybe beer
To wish us all the best of cheer.
Along the way we may recall
The reason that we’ve gathered all,
It’s not about the gifts and things
It is the message this day brings !
Our lives begin imagining
While we are young and expanding
With dreams and hopes and something more
That waits outside the cottage door.
It’s then begins the fantasy
Of what we wish or plan to be
Who thinks that life will go astray
When we’ve just begun its first day ?
We stumble, fall and make mistakes
Learn to avoid most small heartbreaks
And travel on lifes busy road
With someone who helps share our load.
How grateful that our lives might be
If we should wed our destiny
To lifetime goals of peace and joy
And courage that we need employ
With love of God walk hand in hand
One day into the promised land.
The night is dark and lonely too
I cannot breathe what shall I do
No plans are made no thought taken
I’m feeling lost and forsaken.
It’s true I’ve felt this way before
This emptiness and nothing more
I can’t recall a constant cure
The path is rocky and unsure.
Come join me let us seek the way
It’s time to meet a brand new day !
Familiar words we’ve heard before
We wait without we seek no more
Though waiting can be hard to take
Because with time there is no break.
Repeated words that pique the mind
What will it be we cannot find ?
A faithful heart a kindly way
The help to face another day ?
Reprise in prayer and music blend
There’s but one life for us to spend.
Where is our help, where is our care
What should we do if God’s not there ?
We’ll slog along with a full pack
Upon the breadth of our own back.
We’ll carry on as though He were
We’ll keep our faith and hope in stir
He will not fail that cannot be
God is with us eternally !
I miss my mom I loved her so
I’d like to think that when I go
To join her in the promised land
She will be there to take my hand.
But if this hope cannot be so
I’m sure that I will never know
And little matter does it make
If this belief is a mistake.
Here is the message we may save
There is no mem’ry in the grave !
At last the time has come for us to see
The battles that define our legacy
That follow us wherever we may go
No matter what the odds win, place or show.
This world a test in which we must compete
Display our colours calmly in defeat
And if by chance the winners we should be
Do take the lead with deep humility.
Have faith and trust in that we will conceive
Know God abides in all that we believe !
We know the hand of God above
Bids us accept His way of love
This should be so for all of us
The fuel of life’s great omnibus.
To lead another by the hand
We find it sense to understand
God made no one to live alone
Our hearts and heads not carved of stone.
We own the power to include care
With values that we keep and share
Our duty is to love with joy
In truthful ways we need employ
For love is more than carnal lust
It’s kind and sweet and sure and just.
On wings of hope our dreams take flight
To carry us through troubled night
Up to the clouds above our heads
While we sleep tight upon our beds.
For dreams can be the sweetest things
As we escape on quilted wings,
Then wish no more my precious child
That days will be both kind and mild.
Our God shall greet us as we fly
Into His arms with lullaby
And sing a song there while we sleep
To cradle all the fears we keep
And waken with the mornings light
To other fortunes beaming bright !
