When I remember yesterday
So long ago and faraway
I chuckle and I laugh aloud
(Between just us or in a crowd).
We had such fun both you and I
All through those years before goodbye
A mother and her child were we
Who lived in peaceful harmony.
Along the way we both grew old
Still sharing stories to be told
I hope you know how much you’re missed
And what I’d give for one last kiss !
I love you Lord, with all my might
That trust protects me through the night
It matters not what others say
You light my path to show the way.
The simple truth cannot be beat
Faith will remain win or defeat
I have believed since but a child
Transfixed was I by manner mild.
I’m grateful that I’ve had the chance
To learn to take a lifetime stance
I’ll follow you where’er you go
You know the line,win, place or show !
It seems that love won’t always stay
Oft times it drifts or fades away
To leave us lost and wishing for
A love that lasts forever more.
But such as this can never be
No ardor earns eternity
There’s only one I’ll share with you
Its force exists still strong and true.
The love of God is kind and fair
He holds us in His loving care
Demanding naught for us to learn
Except we’re faithful in return !
There is this little girl I know
Who is as sweet as sweet can be
And when her grey eyes smile and glow
She brings great happiness to me.
I need to add she is quite smart
And uses words with charm and grace
She brings much joy to this old heart
Her kindness beams upon her face.
I find her ways are just and true
This gentle child that God has wrought
Her laughter sings and filters through
The wisest lessons we’ve been taught !
I had a dream I can’t recall
If it was spring or it was fall
There was no snow upon the ground
And in the air no chill was found.
Where was that place I do not know
All this occurred so long ago
The air was clear the sky was blue
Peace filled my heart its aim was true.
I’d like to reach that quiet space
Before my life outruns its race
I’m weary now nowhere to hide
I beg that God stays by my side.
Have you seen the morning haze
Filter through the misty glaze
Before the sun just arrives
To shine its light in the skies ?
Have you spied an errant star
Shining bright but quite afar
Or the flock that’s overhead
Intent upon being fed ?
Such happenings will occur
Days to come and days that were
Precious words of Solomon
Nothing’s new under the sun !
There are some times I am remiss
And bid goodbye without a kiss,
Today I want to give my thanks
For birds and trees and flowered banks
For sun that greets us every day
And rain that can get in the way !
A breeze that blows and stars that shine
These gifts from God, they’re yours, they’re mine.
I won’t forget how much it means
To taste the wind and smell the greens
I’ll say farewell to bygone days
And join that path to better ways !
The saddest day I do recall
It came about late in the fall
I was a child that long ago
What caused it all I do not know.
The day was calm the air was sweet
With burning leaves along the street
The Yuletide was not far away
My thoughts ran wild for Christmas Day.
I had a friend ( she used to be )
She shared with me in secrecy
And told me Santa was a fake
I thought my heart would surely break.
Now that I’m old I comprehend
My world did not come to an end
But rather know when I am sad
I search for reasons to be glad.
We need to fill our lives with glee
Remembering that laughter’s free !
Good morning world, I know your face
I hear your sounds, it’s quite a race
The nimble are just that and quick
It’s time to take your place and pick
Some goal you have decided on
An aim to base your life upon.
How marvelous the chance exists
You can succeed if will persists
I wish you luck and so much more
That is what love and friends are for !
TODAY I awakened with a hymn echoing in my head, ” Faith of our fathers, living still, In spite of dungeon, fire and sword; O how our hearts beat high with joy, Whenever we hear that glorious Word !” Wow, 3500 years of history crammed into one verse, and nothing has changed ! Is this possible ? And still the promise calls and the hymns ring out their joyous song. ” Faith of our fathers, holy faith ! We will be true to thee till death. ” My hispanic friends speak reverently of “los ultimos tiempos “. Is there no path left to create a better world ? I am saddened by man’s inhumanity to man, I am crushed by the anger and the ignorance of mankind. I am brought to my knees in supplication, will you help me in my quest ? I know it’s time ! Of all the gifts that God has given
And all the goals for which I’ve striven
The one I’ve chosen above the rest
That seems to me the ultimate test
Is the courage needed to be strong
To accept the guilt when I am wrong,
To love my God with all of my might
On the coldest morn or darkest night,
Follow His words wherever they lead
And volunteer when there is a need
Walk with Him whether it’s night or day
Pray for His blessings along the way !
Love cannot last for but a day
It does not happen quite that way
For love is meant to stay and stay.
Man will be faithless by design
Too shallow and prone to malign
With sentiment and thought unkind.
While God’s love is example set
And leaves us nothing to regret
It is the most to give and get.
So I shall always pray to be
Within that circle loved and free
To worship Him who’s there for me !
A veil of water clouded earth
Until the time of Noah’s birth
God’s anger rained the deluge down
To cover roof and hill and mound.
Rainbows are there reminding us
His power can be swift and just
Our weakness is that we can’t see
His vision of eternity !
It may not seem to be quite right
But there are times I wake at night
So sure that God is by my side
I lose all fear and will abide
Within this world of safety first
Where ancient words still quench my thirst !
I love the songs they used to sing
The Psalms I keep remembering
The hopes and joys once promised us
As voices raised sang glorious
Accompanied by cherubim
Applauding God and thanking Him !
Who’s asking for another chance
One more wish, perhaps one last dance
What has been said along this line,
Maybe this time it will be fine ?
I’d like to believe there is hope
That still exists a way to cope,
A path that leads to peace and calm
To keep us safe from hurt and harm.
Who dares to dream, you know it’s me
I trust God’s generosity !
Oh little lamb, so calm and still
I sight you there upon the hill
Why is it that you quiet wait
Aside that height in passive state ?
What is it that you seem to see
That’s still invisible to me,
Who is expected to arrive
To bring you peace as you survive ?
Oh simple and unfettered lamb
How may I learn just who I am ?
This nation that we love so much
Seems to have lost its common touch
And travels on a road unknown
While seeds of discontent are sown.
This promised land that God has blessed
Has lost its aim, is in distress
Now choosing to deny our faith
By following an avid wraith.
Oh Lord above, please guide our fate
We ask of You, it’s not too late ?
Oh Lord, sometimes I find myself cast adrift
With reason run astray like a miser’s thrift
I cannot understand or comprehend why
My life’s course is set on medium not high.
I’d like to believe that we are all alike,
Walk on four balls while out requires a third strike,
However time will prove that forgiveness waits
Patient there standing outside those pearly gates !
How much longer Lord, must I wait
Upon my knees aside the gate
To learn if there’s a chance that I
Have found some favor in God’s eye ?
Perchance to dream and closer be
To dwell in that eternity
Along with those who’ve gone before
Now waiting there outside the door ?
Oh what a joy would be allowed
If I could join that chosen crowd !
Poor old teddy bear, waiting tired and time-worn
Reminding me of many nights spent too forlorn,
We have seen better days when your soft coat was new
And all the dreams we dared to dream seemed overdue.
I put away my childhood toys as I grew old
Because I’d sought the happiness that futures hold.
While childish hopes are based upon small simple things
They fade into the lonely past that growing brings.
Sometimes I wish, with all my heart, I could recall
That yesteryear, so long ago, when I was small.
There’s a precious amount of brief security
In loving a teddy bear who loves only me.
We’re given the strength to believe
And the wisdom to understand,
The will to accept and receive
To learn to obey and command.
Man’s power of love conquers all
In spite of the ache or the cost,
Wherever this madness may fall
Or whether it’s won or it’s lost.
While the love of God’s not the same
It rises greater than real life
As we humbly call on His name
He answers with kindness not strife !
I look into the blue above
For signs of God’s eternal love
And lo, before me clouds arise
To fill the void in vacant skies,
They dance and float with such panache
Creating panoramic flash !
I’m dazzled by their wild display
Reminding me this is His way,
And I shall ever grateful be
He made this world including me
Oh blessed heart that sings a song
Or hums a tune the whole day long,
That dances down an empty street
Where victory must be discreet.
The song we chant is such a gift
It fills the air and spirits lift
I yearn to hear that melody
That echoes like a symphony,
A hymn that’s raised with one accord
To love our God and praise The Lord !
Hidden behind the window blind
What sort of secrets shall we find
What kind of pleasures will be there
For each to seek and perhaps share ?
What pleasant dreams may be fulfilled
Or treasures sought and ogres killed,
How shall we know which way to go
Which path to take or room to show ?
The road is long some will not wait
For ways that lead to heavens gate !
A lacy heart, a tender tug
A gentle kiss, a loving hug
We have no need to lovers be
Since friendship binds both you and me.
We have been friends a long, long time
When we all knew a kinder clime
Though days of old are long forgot
We comprehend forget-me-not !
Oh blessed Lord, please hear my plea
I beg of You remember me
My face is not my crucial part
I offer You my loving heart.
It beats so hard I cannot hear
My puzzled thoughts are rife with fear
My cause is just, my trust is true
Accept my faith, it came from You.
The crystal beads that hug the trees
All together bright and shining
A stunning show of winter freeze
Icy wind and rain combining.
The diamond glaze that rings this space
And ever keeps us expecting
Soon disappears without a trace
As first sun begins reflecting !
I am alive and well
And oh, such truth to tell
I seek one last foray
Into the fading gray.
Too soon the dark must call
While nighttime covers all
Obscuring all the rest
To take God’s final test !
