Oh how I’ve dreamt that you and I
Would be together by and by
Somewhere upon an island near
Or in some place that’s free of fear.
We’d chat about our fav’rite things
Like love and care and angel wings
I miss your laugh and your bright smile
Though you’ve been gone a long, long while.
It’s been a road with ups and downs
Filled with wise men, some fools and clowns
I truly don’t know what to do
How shall I manage without you !
What’s that I hear upon my roof
Loud raindrops or a reindeer hoof
T’would be a very great mistake
If I some foolish error make.
There was a time that I recall
His bells were jingling in the hall
But that was oh, so long ago
How old was I, bout five or so.
I spied the bells there on the floor
Outside of the old hallway door
Yet never caught a glimpse of him
Or of his jolly hairy chin.
I’m sure that he is very wise
Politely keeping his disguise
Perhaps next year we two may meet
If I am here still on my feet !
What is it that I see out there
All those rough cracks in earth so bare,
They seem to spread across the ground
New fresh roots waiting to be found.
There is this light green piercing through
Can it be that springtime is due,
What is it we are noticing
Why, first sign of an early spring !
