I understand the worm and grub
And other insects in the shrub
But there is one great mystery
What can mosquitos do for me ?
Of all the vermin in the world
At which insecticides are hurled
Along with lice and flies and such
Mosquitos bother me too much !
I wish I knew just what to do
Since they escape my swatter’s “shoo”
I truly hope that heaven’s clean
And void of vermin on the scene !
I’d like to be a bug somewhere
That’s born to life without a care
I’d settle for a cricket too
But they have other jobs to do.
A beetle or a frog is fine
Or caterpillar on a vine,
I’m guessing that I’d choose the last
A butterfly might be a blast !
All those noxious gnats, flies, ticks and fleas
Harmful, quite unlike our bumblebees
They do not help the flowers to grow
Or wild fields about to bloom and show,
Their value is but to birds and frogs
Supplying snacks in vast marsh and bogs.
Now we’d be fine if they were inclined
To spread their germs among their own kind !
God’s music plays, I hear the sound
Reverberating all around
The rustling of the varied trees
With branches swaying in the breeze,
While birds o’erhead with fluted tone
Keep warning us this is their zone
The insects add their special hum
That covers the entire spectrum.
The ocean’s rush, the thunder’s clash
The drip, drip with each puddle’s splash
These are the notes that we all hear
God’s symphony sweet on the ear !
